Are you planning to participate in door to door Trick-or-Treating this year?
Last year we didn't because of COVID and I didn't pay attention to whether anyone was out of the street. Normally we get a good number of kids.
The outdoor decorations are starting to go up in the neighborhood and we decided we will take a pass again this year.

I live in rural town USA, we did it last year, we will do it this year unless someone in my house has an active Covid case.

I haven't had kids trick or treating in my neighborhood for nearly a decade. There were a few the first year I moved in but it is a stable neighborhood and they have all grown up.

Yes. We will have a table set up blocking ourfront entry area with 2 buckets and a sign that says tricks and treats. One bucket will have candy goody bags and the other sensory, non food goody bags.
Last year we did not pass out anything.

I live in a neighborhood, but it is in a rural area, so we don't get many TOT except for kids in our neighborhood (and their friends). That said, we still get as many as 70-ish TOT.
I will probably do what I did last year: put the treats in a bowl on the front porch and sit by an open window to great the kids/parents. That worked well last year because it was a cool evening, but not hot. If it is too cold this year, I will just leave the treats on the porch with a note and not bother with the open window.

I put other because I don’t know, living in a new area. I also have a middle schooler only left in the house so not sure his interest level.
Last year in our small southern (aka warm at Halloween) neighborhood, several houses set up tables/open tents outside, and had candy spread out so kids could individually grab without touching them in a big bowl all over and over.
We did a Harry Potter theme with candy in little cauldrons and individual little jars of goo. It was a lot of fun and a big hit for the kids in the neighborhood who were desperate for some normalcy.
Of course my household came down with our second batch of Covid a few days later...I think my dd had been (unknowingly) exposed a few days before, and have no idea if we spread it to anyone else. I am thankful we at least tried to have some protective measures though.

No idea what we're doing.
We live in red trump county so I'm sure it'll be nuts out there just as it was last year.
My 10 and 5 year old want to ToT but I'm not sure if we're going to do it or not. We live on the top of a hill and no one comes up here. The house we usually make our destination and turn around point is being sold and our friends are moving to Washington state so I'm not sure what it will look like.

I don't know, but I will have my lights off, due to COVID and the fact that our immune systems are down due to being at home for so long. We're all much more susceptible to colds and the flu. Sorry kids. When things get healthier I'll turn on my lights and hand out candy, once again.

I answered Other. Since Halloween is on a Sunday this year trick or treating will be on Saturday in my area. We'll be out of town until Saturday night so we'll miss the trick or treaters. If we were going to be home I would have answered Yes. Heck, in Utah they trick or treated last year so I fully expect T or T-ing this year.

I assume so, only b/c it was still on last year when there was no vaccine. We had about the usual number of trick or treaters, too.

We usually do but didn’t last year and not sure I want to deal with it this year. Last year we didn’t because of Covid but that wouldn’t stop us this year. If we had a portable fire pit I think I would do it and just hang out in the driveway but I don’t want to get up and down so much inside lol. I bought a bag of candy just in case but will probably just give it to DS as I made sure it was stuff he liked.

We handed out candy last year & will do it this year. We don't get a lot of kids, but I have no issues with doing it, just like last year.

Yes, and we did last year also despite covid. Everyone said it was one of the best Halloween's ever. Everyone brought tables out to the front of their house and set candy out for the kids to take. Some people who have steeper flights of steps in front of their houses made candy chutes. Those were very popular as the kids loved trying to catch the candy in their bags. Everyone was polite, stayed away from other groups, etc. We had SO many kids go by, even more than usual (and my neighborhood is known for Halloween, lol).
In fact I just said to my dh that this year I want to do the table out front again instead of waiting for kids to ring the bell.

Other. I always have treats but because I live on a short street on the other side of the freeway from a large neighborhood, I seldom get anyone, even pre-COVID.
I will have treats, but don't expect anyone to come (except if maybe my newish next door neighbors bring their littles over).

I chose "Other" because it's not worth it for me to answer the door to three kids ... my area just doesn't have many kids anymore ... I keep my outside light off and hide

We close on a house on 10/22 and will have about a month to move, so I am thinking we'll do it in the current house for now.

We gave out candy last year and will do so again this year. Last year I set a 6’ table in front of the door so the kids could come up to the porch but not all the way to the door. I was able to see when there were kids coming so I could go out and put the candy on the table from my side for them to take from the other side. It worked out so much better than usual because they typically come up in groups and crowd around the door so much that I can’t even get it open to put the candy in their bags. Plus with my dogs going nuts behind me, it just adds to the chaos.
This year I’m going to gate off the hallway so the dogs can’t get close to the door on the inside and out the table up again on the porch blocking the door like I did last year. Only this year I’ll cover the top of the table with Press N’ Seal and use a big Sharpie to write “PLEASE WAIT HERE!” in big letters. Maybe also stick some printouts of stop signs and stick them under the Press N’ Seal too.
After the fiasco that was ToT last year for my own kid, she is going to a friend’s house and will ToT with his family. Last year my kid’s only real friend from the neighborhood moved out of our neighborhood. We have a half sized hay wagon that we would always pull with our side-by-side so DD and the neighbor kids could ride between houses because the neighborhood is so big and the houses are so far apart. The other kids in the neighborhood now are 1) all boys, 2) not her same age or grade other than one kid she doesn’t really know, 3) half of them go to private school so they don’t even go to her school. Those are the kids who went with her on our hay wagon.
The private school brats started running to each house that had an unattended bowl and whoever got there first would empty the entire bowl into his own bag. Turned out this went on most of the night, so all the kids who were at the middle or back of the pack (namely my DD and her one friend who came from the cabin to ToT with her, and the two little kids they were helping at the back) got nothing from half of the houses because so many just had unattended bowls out.
DH was furious and called their parents to rat them out, but at that point the damage had been done. Their parents did make them apologize to DH and to DD but that’s a small consolation when they got all the freaking candy. So this year, DD is going with her friend that moved and we’re not using the wagon at all. Those entitled little jerks can go on their own and they can WALK to get their treats. Being a jerk has consequences.

I would just put out a few treats at a time, and replenish when needed. "Stop" and "please wait here" would make me turn around and never come back.

We didn't last year and we probably won't this year. We are vaccinated, but most trick or treaters aren't. And since mask usage isn't big in our area, I don't trust anyone.
We always enjoy handing out candy and a few months ago, we thought we would be able to do it this fall. But no, not with numbers going up in our area.

I would just put out a few treats at a time, and replenish when needed. "Stop" and "please wait here" would make me turn around and never come back. The only reason why I would do that was because last year the kids were trying to go AROUND the table to get to the door and the way our porch is set up that isn’t safe. I can see the kids when they’re coming up the driveway, but it takes me a minute to navigate the dogs, grab the bucket of candy bars and get out the door and the storm door. Plus it’s usually pretty cold on Halloween so I don’t leave the front door open. They all know our house is the one with the BIG candy bars, so believe me, they’re okay with waiting a minute for me to get out the door. I just don’t want anyone to trip climbing around the table and get hurt. DH *LOVES* Halloween and decorates the whole yard with inflatables, has a fog machine, puts lights and stuff on the house. It’s definitely fun. ETA: My thought process behind the stop sign would be for the littler kids who can’t yet read, but maybe would know what a stop sign means. Those were the kids who were trying to crawl around or under the table last year.

We haven’t in years. Why? Because the kids stopped coming. The last year we handed out candy maybe 2 groups with about 4-6 kids showed up. So we stopped buying candy. It does make me a little sad because I want to decorate the outside, but I don’t want to have to buy candy for 4 kids.

Our neighborhood is popular for TorT but we live in a lone block and often get overlooked. After a couple of years of poor turnout and only one other house participating, I gave up. We no longer hand out candy.
We are selling our house soon and looking to move more rural. I'm pretty sure our ToT days are over for good.

I imagine we will have trick-or-treating again this year, since we did last year. But I never get a lot of kids (the house is lit up, but it’s at the end of a dark court off a bigger dark court) and got even fewer last year. I’m hoping for more kids this year. Like every year. ETA I’m vaccinated but will wear a mask when I answer the door.

We had tons of kids last year. Our street goes all out with amazing decorations, lights, blowups, etc. and the word got out. I left treats out in a big box ~ individual bags and I kept replenishing. I had a lot and by about 8:30 they were all gone so I turned out the light.
