This is his first year in an actual chorus class. (he had "music" in elementary school, band all through middle school and his freshman year of high school)
He was selected for the District Honor Chorus that worked today on music (an excused absence from school) and tomorrow will be the concert.
Last night, he was packing his lunch, getting concert attire ready and working on his music.
This morning, he woke up with a raging fever. He was over 101 by 7am. I knew it was going to do nothing but rise. He texted his Director to let him know. (Director then texted me LOL)
I'm sure he's got the flu. With how quickly it came on, and his fever today reached 103.4.
He's so disappointed and I'm really disappointed for him to miss this first opportunity.
I am relieved though that this didn't happen last weekend...which was All-State auditions...which he did really well and if the "cutoffs" are about the same as last year, he will move on to round 2 auditions. Yay!
Several of the chorus/drama kids have had the flu in the past week. I found out tonight that one other girl also missed Honor Chorus because she too has the flu. So at least DS isn't the only one.
His fever has been down...probably because when it hit 103 that's when I busted out the Advil. (I probably should've started that at 102...but I was kind of wanting the fever to do its thing)
Thankfully, they have the entire week of school off for Thanksgiving and we're not travelling anywhere and with the exception of both my girls coming home from college, we aren't having any out of town guests.

Aw that is too bad. My kids have band championships tomorrow and I would be sad if they missed something like that. I hope he feels better soon.

Wait, are you saying that after you texted the director DS is sick, the Director's response to you was a text that said "LOL"?
That seems inappropriate.
I'm sorry your DS is sick. Poor guy.

What a bummer! DS had to sit out a regional championship game in middle school, with bronchitis and a double ear infection. It was the sickest he had ever been in his 13 years of life. His coach let him tip off (he was the starting center every game of the season) and play the first 2 minutes, and the last 2 minutes. My heart broke for him. It's hard enough when our kids are disappointed they don't make a team, or band, or play...but when they do make it, and have the glory ripped out from underneath them is heat breaking. I hope your DS feels better soon, and the rest of you escape the cooties!

My daughter was a chorus kid too. And it really did suck when she'd get sick right at performance time. {{{ hugs to your son }}}

Disappointing! Hope he is feeling better soon.
Those are the sorts of things that I have perspective on now as an adult, but remember feeling like the world was coming to an end when I was his age. Hope he's not too let down.

I think she said her son texted the director, the director texted her instead, and that made her LOL. That is correct. DS texted the Director to let him know he was sick and would not be attending. Director texted him back. Director also texted me and I had a dialogue with him because I was actually supposed to do some transporting of students both yesterday and today.

Still miserable today. He was over 102 when he woke...so he'll be taking Advil all day today. Thankfully when the fever comes down to a more tolerable level, while still sick, he doesn't feel nearly as bad as when the fever is high.
