Well, it's September already, when I can see the end of the year on the horizon and start thinking about the fresh starts of the new year coming up.
For me, it feels like it's been more of a buying year than a use it up year.
Nothing too crazy or expensive. Mostly Dollar Tree stickers, and consumables & necessities like albums and adhesive.
I have scrapped quite a bit, though it comes in fits & bursts, so it doesn't feel like I got a lot finished.
Has it been a buying year for you, or a use it up year?
What are you hoping for the next year?

I probably broke even on buying versus using. I bought several paper collections, but I was churning out layouts for a while last spring and this past summer... I bought some stencils and stencil paste, but not much of anything else besides the paper... I gave away a ton of paper and storage stuff, because I downsized my space, so overall I do have less stuff than I started with, or at least it looks that way because it's stored in a more compact way. Next year my goal is to keep on keepin' on... I would like to say 'Friday is scrap day' or something but right now that doesn't work with my schedule

Buying year for me, although I am using it quickly. I am a small stash scrapper. But I've subscribed to two kits this year so I have quite a bit to use each month.

Good question! I’ve bought more AND scrapped more during the pandemic than I have since I started this hobby around 2002. It’s hard to say which I did more of but I’m happy with all my layouts and the stash I’ve built up. But if I’m being honest I probably bought more. It’s really hard to scrap enough to keep up with regular purchases.

Both. I’ve bought less, used more, sometimes been in the freezer and shopped solely from my stash. I broke out of the freezer recently in a bigger way than I should have, but I’m trying to crawl back into the fridge. I really want to do more scrapbooking, which uses stash a lot faster than card making. Next year my goal is to craft more, and shop even less, but I don’t really plan to wait till next year. I want to start now, when I’ve been thinking about what changes I want to make. If I wait, I’ll just fall back into the bad habits again.

Buying for sure. Therapeutic.
I've added a significant number of inks - and that's spendy. Stamps and dies too - and I am using them like crazy!
I've been more restrained with collections - I buy the ones I adore, and leave the ones that are "like" and below.

Both for me. I"ve actually scrapped more this year than last year. I also subbed to a monthly kit plus a lot of SG buying as well.

A little of both. I’ve spent more than I have the last couple of yours but I have also scrapped a LOT in 2021. I’ve also been into making more cards.

Buying, hands down. Then again, most of my years are buying years. To be honest, my stash has grown to the point where I need to drastically re-evaluate how I shop. I used to be a double page scrapper, so I would buy collections and then double up on the paper. However, now that I scrap single pages there is no need for me to buy so much other than habit.
I had a huge wake up call recently when I grabbed my old Basic Grey Christmas paper and realized that the little stack I had was 71 sheets of paper! It gave me pause as I thought about how many pieces of paper I might actually own. Terrifying!
Next year, I am going to focus on a use it up year. I have tried in the past going in the freezer and I usually fall off the wagon early in the year, and hard! I'm not going to stop shopping, it just doesn't work for me, but I am going to try to shift how I shop away from collections to just buying the pieces and embellishments that I love and trying to pull from what I have to make it work together. The goal for next year is going to be more paper out and into albums and cards, and less into my stash.

I think definitely a buying year. I did make quite a bit, but I bought exponentially more. I have decided I have to do a spending freeze for the rest of the year. I just don’t have room for more.

Definitely a buying year--but I blame a trip to Colorado for that! I loved so many travel lines, hiking/outdoors/fishing lines that I ended up with more than I'd need for 3-4 for trip albums (especially considering how much I actually use because I take so many pictures that also want to include...)
But at least I did use more of my stash this year versus last year. I never stopped going into the office and when I was home I had to supervise my youngest son's online learning. I was also in a weird place mentally because of my other son's schooling situation & decompressing after quiting a toxic gig job/friendship with a neighbor that I did not feel like scrapbooking much...wanted to just sit and watch TV in my free time.
I am halfway done with my Colorado trip (printing pictures at home for 2-12x12 albums has been interesting...) and hope to get that finished so I can do more everyday scrapping before December Daily starts.

I did a lot of buying but also a lot of using so it’s probably even. But my goal for next year is less buying. I’m also leaning more towards pocket pages so I need to change what I’m buying too.

Both. Everything I have purchased this year has to be used. It is an agreement my friend and I made after Boxing Day Sales last year lol

A mix for me.
Buying - stamps and more stamps. I finally have a great inventory process and I have been using (and buying more stamps) like crazy.
Using - I have bought next to nothing for 12x12 scrapbooking. Using up my previously kitted papers. Honestly, most of the newer stuff has not inspired me very much. Except Pinkfresh.
Selling - Made the decision this year to SELL items that haven't been used in over 2 years. Sold 90% of my Tim Holtz mixed media items. Also did a hard cull of all AE and SC kit items and have been selling those as well. Feels GOOD.

Neither - too much life happening here and I don't tend to shop much when I'm not scrapbooking very often.

Tools - a buying year Paper- only my subscription and 1 6x6 pad so far so it’s been a using year for paper
Watching Shimelle’s lives I’ve let go of the trying to only use cut papers in my planner since it’s a small area. She has emboldened me to CUT my 12x12 paper if that’s what I want on this page!
I mean yes, I still enjoy using my scraps to design a page but why was I so wary of cutting new sheets if that is what I wanted?
So my mantra is ‘cut that paper & use it if that’s what you want!!!’
Just cut it, go ahead cut it, the world will not fall apart.

I think a use it up/get rid of it kind of year. I took a major car load of stuff to a LSS garage sale and made $222! So I was super excited to get rid of all that stuff plus make that much money in store credit. So NEXT year will be a buying year while I spend that, lol.

both I think but my buying has been more focused on replacing consumables (adheseive, cutter blades...) and adding multi-use tools (stamps, dies, a Gemini Jr) and less paper, stickers, embellishments
I have been scrapping though off and on but my on months are pretty productive.

A buying year for sure. I have had fewer crops but got back to convention, dollar tree stickers, albums from Amazon and Memory Bound, and then on line ordering from SB.com and Peachy Cheap to name a few.
I have stuff I don't even know I have. I can't find stuff I know I have. So it's definitely been a buying year.

I have been on self imposed spending restriction, for the past year and a half. My income is about half of what it usually is, my industry is slow since the mandatory shut down and subsequent very slow since reopening. "Only do, what you have to do", "not frequent too many places", etc... has been a deterent and it affects revenue. I've had a few gift cards(Christmas and Birthday), so I've been able to pick up few new goodies. Christmas and Birthday cash, has been put into savings, because it's the responsible thing to do. Normally, those type of funds would be put into the "spending money" category. I am not going to say "use it up" because I really don't feel like I am trying to use up products that I have. I am doing so, out of necessity. It's more like "I have enough scrapbook products in my stash to last a long time, without having to buy more" . I have more than enough, to get me through this season of life, and I am using it because I have to and because of budgetary constraints, not by choice. In general (with the exception of this past year and a half), I follow the philosophy of "the scrapbook product turnover rate is seasonal and fairly frequent, so buy it when I see it (if my finances/budget allow it) or I may miss out. Sucks being on an extremely tight budget, but someday( hopefully soon) this too, shall pass.

Not so much of either, I don't think. I've been busy with other stuff and trying not to get tempted to buy when I know I feel a lot of pressure to use things up. I have been shopping a bit in the past month or so and I haven't had time to use what I've bought and that makes me feel crappy. I've been trying to find balance between the different roles I have in my life but I'm not sure that's working.

This has been a buying year for sure, even though I told myself that I had to reign in it in this year. I have also increased how much I have been scrapbooking a lot but the balance is definitely in the buying corner. I have managed to find some seriously great deals that I haven't been able to walk away from this year, it really has been a buyers market in that respect. I found a lady selling off the last of her scrapbooking supplies on marketplace and it ended up being way more than I anticipated and it was all newish branded stuff so that bought a whole new level of product into my room and then my closest LSS closed its doors and had a massive sale so I bought things like albums, embossing powders and watercolour pans that I normally put off buying because paper is cheaper and more fun .
