I bought Concord and 9th Sentiments stamp sets (a complete block of words that you can cut out individually). I cannot get it to stamp cleanly. What tips do you have for doing that? It keeps having blank and splotchy parts on it.
I am using a Stamp Platform - should I not be? It doesn't seem to be getting even pressure all across the whole surface of the stamp.

What’s the surface under your paper? Using a glass mat works great.

The foam on the bottom of the platform might be enough to be throwing it all off. Do you have an acrylic block you can put the stamp on and just use that and your glass mat?

Does your stamp platform have a reversible lid for rubber and clear stamps? Maybe try using the other side, or using it without the foam?

Background stamps do better when you put paper to stamp rather than stamp to paper. You can still use the stamp positioner but flip it over so the paper is on the bottom and the stamp is on the top.

I put the stamp face side up on the table, ink the stamp, put the paper gently on top, then use a brayer to transfer the ink. Make sure you roll the brayer carefully to get the edges & corners.

Sometimes it helps to “prime” the stamp too. Just to make sure there isn’t any residue from the manufacturing process. I’ve seen two methods…one where you rub an eraser over the stamp before using, and another where you do the first stamp in Versamark. Either way it can help to clean it first too.

I am going to try this. I have had trouble with a couple of all over greeting stamps: they left gaps no matter whether I used a stamp positioner or acrylic block, whether on glass mat or CTMH stamping mat on a solid counter. Thinking the paper/cs would mold itself to the large stamp surface to get a better all over image. |

Yup, I’ve switched to laying the stamp on its back and putting the paper down on top. I usually place a sheet of copy paper over the top and gently rub over the whole surface with the palm of my hand, or you can use a printmaking baren (or the whiteboard eraser/stamp platform pressure tools that everyone is making or buying) or a brayer. Saves a lot of frustration even if you do have to be careful pulling the paper up. Hope you can get it to work. C&9th make some great stamps  |

Stamp (face-up) on the bottom and paper on top, whether you are using a platform or putting the stamp on your table. If you're using a positioner/platform, tape the paper to the lid, and put the stamp on the bottom part of the platform. It should cling to the plate. If you're using a table, keep the fingers of one hand on the paper while you slowly work your way around the stamp with the fingers of your other hand.

When I am having difficulty getting an image to stamp cleanly with my stamp positioner, I find that it usually helps if I stand up when I'm making the impression (i.e., pushing down on the positioner lid). Must be that I have better leverage and more pressure from a standing position, but it usually fixes any uneven stamping issues I have (especially if there's one spot I just can't get no matter how many times I RE-stamp.)

Sometimes when using a large clear background stamp, if there are small “bubbles” in the way the stamp is adhered to the platform, it won’t give a clear impression. Just a suggestion.

When using my stamp positioner on my glass mat on my wobbly table, I can not get a good image even on small stamps. I have to put the positioner on the floor to make sure it has enough support to not bend.
