I got the covid booster shot last night and boy, am I achy today. I just got out of bed a few minutes ago- it just seemed like so much effort. I didn't think anything of getting the shot until the nurse mentioned that the side effects might be really bad this time because I've had the previous 2 shots. Then I remembered my experience with the last shot. My school district was smart to offer the shots on Friday- that way they didn't need subs because we are all sick today. My nephew just contacted me yesterday about getting a Halloween costume- evidently it didn't occur to him earlier. He wants to be a hotdog. Ugh- so now I need to find a hotdog costume or make one this weekend. How are these two things related? He is 12 and got his first shot a week ago. He had a fever afterwards and is freaked out about getting the second shot. So now I have to take him costume shopping while not mentioning that I had the booster and pretending that I don't feel really sick. It is going to be an amazing acting performance- about as good as when I got stung by a bee (he is terrified by bees) and I had to pretend it didn't hurt like crazy. Anyone else get the booster? What was your experience? I hope you're feeling better today and have a costume situation figured out! I originally got the J&J shot back in April. Yesterday I got a Moderna booster and my flu shot, both in the same arm. I have a headache and pain from my shoulder up my neck and in that side of my head but it's also day 2 of my period when usually the hormonal migraine hits. The thing that leads me to believe it might be booster related though is I usually don't have a migraine on this side. Supposed to meet friends downtown today for a Halloween decoration and leaf peeping walk. We'll see!

About 8 hours after I got my shot yesterday, my arm started getting sore. Starting at about 12 hours, it was painfully sore, but I was in bed, so I just tried to go back to sleep.
Woke up and soreness is gone
I lied. Got out of bed. The arm doesn't really hurt, but I do feel like I mat have been ran over

I got my Moderna booster yesterday and I'm really achy today. I didn't sleep very much either, but I don't know if that was my usual random insomnia or because I also got a keratin treatment on my hair and I was subconsciously afraid I was going to get my hair kinked up while I slept. Anyway, I took some Motrin and I'm hoping the aches will go away soon. So the Motrin didn't help and the body aches got worse throughout the day, especially from my hips down. Even my ankles hurt. I had a low grade fever last night too. This morning I'm better, more sore than achy; it's not painful now when I stand up or walk.

Does anyone know if the Moderna booster is half dose? I have been reading that they are testing the half dose booster but never heard if that is what they put on the market. If my experience with the 3rd Moderna shot is worrying anyone, I did receive a full dose. From the advisory from CDC and my Doctors, people who are immunocompromised need a 3 shot regimen, and not technically a booster.

We had our boosters several weeks ago. It was the worst reaction we had. We ran over 100 degrees in fever. No aches. Having fever makes me sleepy. We got the booster on Friday. This was Saturday. I was vomiting on Sat. night. Sunday morning we still had about 99 degrees of fever. We were fine by Sunday afternoon.

DH recently got his booster and flu shot at the same time. He felt terrible and stayed in bed for 24 hours. After that he felt achy and fatigued for another couple of days.
I’ll dreading feeling terrible but that won’t stop me from getting a Moderna booster as soon as it’s available.
Maybe a couple of shots of espresso will help you get through shopping.

I'm almost 12 hours past my booster and so far just a mildly sore arm. When I got my 2nd dose, which I did have a reaction to, I got it at noon and by dinner time I wasn't feeling great. So I'm already past that window. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm supposed to sub tomorrow, but it's for the librarian and there's an assistant (who happens to be a good friend) so if I really feel awful I'll just come home early.

So happy to hear that a 12 yo wants to dress up. I know! It was important to me that he get his costume because I think he might be too cool to dress up next year. I'm all for doing Halloween as long as you want to- childhood is too short. I ended up taking him yesterday so I was pretty much over the side effects by then. Yes, we found a hotdog costume. Except there was a banana costume hanging by the hotdog, so now he is a banana. He still looks young so he is an incredibly cute banana. He won't let me take a photo of him until Trick or Treat, however.

That's where I got mine. Just got back from getting my Moderna booster in fact. The 2nd shot kicked my butt so crossing my fingers the booster will have minimal impact. I have to drive out to the burbs in the morning to drop my car off at the dealership and then go into the office. I'm just realizing I didn't plan this well. Oh well.

Received Pfizer booster yesterday. I had Johnson & Johnson in March. So far, just a sore arm.
My husband had his Pfizer booster after 2 Pfizer shots in March and April. He had body aches for a day.

I got my booster last Thursday morning. I came home and ate breakfast and felt like I just needed a short nap before starting my day. I hadn't slept well the night prior. I was on the couch and my dog started pawing at me. I opened my eyes and it was dark outside! I looked at the clock and saw that it was now 6:30 pm. I was shocked that I had slept from noon to 6:30. I made the dog's dinner and he gulped it down, which was unusual for him. I opened my laptop and realized that it was now 7:00 pm, but on Friday, not Thursday!
I had actually slept from noon Thursday to 7:00 pm Friday!! Over 30 hours! My poor dog missed Thursday's dinner and Friday's breakfast. No wonder he gulped his food down. And I was still so tired. I went back to the couch and slept until the next morning. I basically dozed on and off until Saturday night. My arm was throbbing and my thinking was really slow. It felt like the words in my brain were moving through pudding. I wasn't really functioning until Sunday.
I slept a lot after shots one and two, but not this hard or this long. And I didn't have pudding brain after the first shots either. I am surprised that the symptoms are so much more pronounced this time. I use Kaiser and they continue to monitor us for a couple of months so I am reporting the difference in how this third shot is affecting me. I'm wondering if other people are having more and longer side effects after the booster like I am.

For those who are having issues with the booster did you have issues with the first two shots? I had no problems with the first two but everyone I know who has had the booster has had some issue. 1st fever, body aches, bone pain in shoulder and clavicle. 2nd fever, tired, headache, bone pain, rash under arm and chest, swollen lymph nodes that lasted months and had to be closely monitored. 3rd rash 8 min after shot that spread to chest and fave with hives. Swollen lymph nodes 2 hours after shot. 2 trips to ER and lots of meds. You had it rough! My biggest issue was sleeping. I just couldn't wake up alert no matter how many hours I slept. I thought mine was a strong reaction but it was nothing like what you went through.

I had the third shot of Moderna, which is a full dose, compared to the booster, which is a half shot. My reaction to the third shot was a day of achy and tired - the same as what I had for the second shot.

Got my booster 3 hours ago (half dose Moderna). I tried hard to keep my arm relaxed but it is already sore. Have been hydrating up a storm. Will take Aleve before bed. Don’t think we have any Tylenol. Nurses at the hospital vaccine clinic were recommending active hydration and Tylenol/Motrin prophylactically,

I got my Modern booster (half dose) this morning at 9:00 am. The CVS app allowed me to choose up to 4 vaccines for the appointment so I also requested a flu shot. They had a contract RN giving the COVID shots rather than a pharmacist. She said that I should not get the flu shot at the same time; in case of side effects you wouldn't know which shot caused it. I was surprised because the CDC said you could get both. Whatever.
It's 8 pm and I am starting to feel the same side effects as my 2nd shot--a little achy, sore arm and low grade fever. Not too bad. I made sure I drank a ton of water today, which I think is helping.

I received the J&J vaccine in March. I'm scheduled for the Moderna booster tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday). I'm grateful, but nervous.
Thursday Update: I received my Moderna booster (half dose) 24 hours ago. No side effects whatsoever. Not even a sore arm. My husband, however, had a very sore arm yesterday, and today he is achy all over. He's also very fatigued. It should be dinnertime, but he's taking a nap right now.

Nurses at the hospital vaccine clinic were recommending active hydration and Tylenol/Motrin prophylactically, Interesting - we never recommend the routine use of paracetamol/iboprofen before or after vaccinations and also from the WHO page on covid vaccination: It says nothing about taking medications prophylactically & mentions only taking them if you have specific symptoms. I don't see the point in taking it for a fever, unless it gets worryingly high. Personally I rode out the side effects (joint aches, shivers etc) because I'd much rather have the full effect of my body's immune response than to risk dampening it down with medications. I think taking those drugs "just in case" when you don't have any (or mild symptoms) is bad advice.

Welp, got the Moderna (1/2 dose) booster Sunday and it took me out Monday (just like my 2nd shot). It did seem to be a little less severe as the 2nd shot and I felt better a little sooner. I had to sleep a lot Monday, along with headache/body aches, but by mid-day yesterday I was fine. Still a little tenderness at injection site, slight arm soreness.
I'll take it all, though!

RN was wrong. You can get both at the same time. She didn’t say you can’t get both at the same time, she said you shouldn’t. And she’s right, if you care to know. Some people don’t care what shot made them feel crappy and they’d rather get it all done at once A good friend of mine got her booster and her flu shot at the same time. She had no significant reaction to doses 1 or 2 of covid vaccine and has never had anything worse than a sore arm from her annual flu shot. Her ass was absolutely KICKED by getting both shots. She was down for the count for two days.
