How about a little ball? Board books from the dollar store?

So he's not quite 2... does he really need much more than that? I really am not trying to be snarky-- I just mean that at this age, it's more for the parents than the kids, because the kids don't remember it. If you still want a few more things, how about a sippy cup? Whatever little finger food snacks he's into (like gerber puffs in the cannister)? A new stuffed animal? An outfit? And he'll need a coloring book or pad to go with those crayons.

I would not give a child that young play doh. It is a choking hazard.
A small stuffed animal, a toothbrush,

At 2 they just love opening gifts. They are so much fun at this age. Whatever you do will be fine. My advice is to keep it low key. You can always go bigger next year but if you go whole hog now it's tough to bring their expectations back down. Enjoy.

A hat, paper for scribbling, a ball or squishy toy that squeaks.

My two-year-old grandson loves Nightmare Before Christmas and walks around with a little stuffed doll of Jack, which he loves. Maybe a little replica of a character he likes?

So far I've got my grandson a sippy cup, bowl and matching spoon, Gerber puffs, board books, a couple VTech wheelie cars and a Christmas ornament. I say so far, because, well Christmas is a month away, and he is my first and only grandchild .

Hot Wheels. My boys have been getting Hot Wheels in their stocking since they were babies. While they are teenagers now, they still like to see what Hot Wheel they'll get. It has gone from up to 5 cars down to just the one now. Since he's only 2, get a Hot Wheel that does not have any little accessories on it.

Fisher Price makes those little chunky cars that are a bit bigger than a hot wheel, but still relatively small...I think they're called Wheelies? My 4 year old used to love those when he was smaller. I second the snack idea and the cup idea. We did both of those. Also things like mittens, hats, PJs, socks, all fit nicely into a stocking if you roll them up. I often put an ornament into the stocking for the kids, or a Christmas book. We wrap our stocking gifts and the kids always loved spilling out a little pile to open at that age.
