Does anyone have one they recommend. Looking at that as an idea for our dog for Christmas. Lately, he's making me nuts wanting constant attention and I thought this might occupy him once in a while to entertain himself and give me a break. If you have one, does your dog like / use it? Do you have a brand recommendation? Thanks!

I wasn't sure what a snuffle mat is.. as I am always looking for something for my St. Bernard. This would just be something he would just eat... the entire thing. bummer. lol

We had one for our dog.... it was round and had long green felt pieces, so it was like a field of grass. It was great, she loved "snuffling" through it to find the kibble. And then when she had gotten it all but thought there should still be more she'd start pulling the felt pieces out. ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OBmV04nhbDylKn9IbXCA.jpg) So she could only use it under supervision.

That would be a bummer!!! We have a little dog... Havanese. He doesn't like to eat or chew stuffed animals, anything fabric, etc. so I'm thinking this wouldn't be an issue. But, we will only use it when we can supervise.

Def. would only use under supervision. But, good to hear your dog liked it!!! I'm also debating some of those puzzle toys as an option. He already has a few treat balls that he likes to roll around for treats, but that doesn't occupy him very long... and he brings it to me and whines when its empty!!

I made one with a dollar store rubber sink mat and strips of fleece tied thru it. My dog loves it but then expects it to be constantly refilled.

The snuffle mat was a godsend for our dog. She was a puppy mill rescue and has the highest anxiety of any rescue dogs we have had. She literally would run in circles all day. ALL DAY. Along comes the snuffle mat and she was able to focus on finding those treats. It was large and had all kinds of different areas on it. It was a pain putting her treats in it but was worth it. Another item we use is a lick mat. I spread her canned food or peanut butter on it. It all kinds of nooks and crannies and it takes her a while to get all of it out. I found both on amazon (there are so many to choose from).

I have a snuffle mat from Amazon that our dog loves. Even better is to take a handful of kibble and chuck it outside for her. In the grass, or even in the snow, she has to use her nose and work harder to find the kibble than on her snuffle mat. It’s great nose work and mental stimulation for her.

I’m going to make one for my dog. I found a few different ideas on Pinterest. There is no sewing involved.

Our dog loves the Nina Ottosson Outward Hound puzzles. [On sale now at Chewy]. We have the level 1 and three level 2s. We put a 1/4 cup of his dinner kibble in one of them every evening. He's an aggressive chewer and player and I thought a snuffle mat would be easily ruined.
ETA He's not aggressive but he's hard on toys. You know the stuffing comes out after 2 minutes and only sqeakers last 50 sqeaks.

My dd’s dog initially had a snuffle mat for her dog because she would just wolf down her dinner so it slowed her down. But she’s since converted to tricky treat balls. You drop some treats or kibble in a hole in the ball and they have to roll it to get it out. It will keep the dog entertained a bit longer, and like another poster said, they might try to eat the mat

I have four dogs. Two liked the mat, one ignored it and one peed on it. Mine love their Kongs, and they keep them busy for quite awhile.

Our dog loves the puzzles that we've bought her. She's very treat motivated from her competition days, and she's easily bored, so puzzles are a good solution. DD has talked about making a snuffle mat for her but hasn't done that yet. Maybe over holiday break. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

Mine liked the silicone mat with grooves that we'd put a dab of peanutbutter on. The kids called it the Licky Mat, but I don't remember its real name. She loved that thing.

I have used cheerios and 1.5 cal training treats. His training treats or fruitable treats. He won’t snuffle for just his kibble. If he can’t find one but can smell one there he picks it up and shakes it. He’s too lazy to snuffle for the last one or two. Lmao He also brings me the whole thing if he wants it filled

Just got this one, also level 2 and it's a bit more difficult. The level 3 we have.

I scrolled and can't tell the level. Is it there? I see their chart with different levels but don't see it with each toy. so I have to guess. But I will go by your links and get a toy from those levels. Thanks again! That is very helpful for me!
I think I may have figured it out. I guess they only have four puzzle toys for chewy and there is one for each level. I see the 5 picture boxes and the one has a picture of each toy at each level. I assumed there were several puzzle toys so I didn't understand. But if threre are obly 4 I understand, they obly have one for each level.

Snuffle MatSailor has this one and loves it. I like it because it folds up small and we can take it on vacation with us.

That looks fun, the snuffle mat you linked! Do you think a german shepherd could use it laying down, or does the dog need to stand? My dog can't stand, she needs toys she can lay down to play with.
What do you mean by soaking the food? I may have to try that!
