At 4:00 CST, the town 5 miles away was rocked by horrible tragedy. A red SUV ran parade barricades, and intentionally ran over no fewer than 30 parade participants. Some were high school ban members. Others were dancing grannies. On top of this, the passenger fired at the crowd. I know people that were at the parade. I have family that teach in the district from which teens were run over.
It was intentional. Very, very sad.
Preliminary report from arrest site and local sources are identifying the suspect in custody as Darrel Brooks.
Before the incident he was witnessed in Kenosha threatening action over the Kenosha verdict. There have been posts (taken down) urging people to "take it to the burbs" and get justice.
I'm hoping this isn't the case.
However, killing children and grandmothers who were not part of a jury, trial, or activity in Kenosha is every kind of fucked up and I'm over it. Any attempt by anyone to justify doing this is beyond helping.

teach4u That is absolutely horrific! I am so sorry for your community and your family and friends. Prayers that everyone survives and the injuries are not life changing. Update: I am so sorry that one person has lost their life.

I haven't watched any footage but I'm heartsick. The lunatics are out in full force, it seems.
I am so very sorry for all of the innocents who lost their lives and for those who love them, as well as for a traumatized community.
Words can't do it justice.

MSNBC is on live. Person in custody. Possibly looking for others.
They may have been fleeing from stabbing crime scene., Which might explain the erratic driving, and trying to go around some people.
Another press conference at top of the hour. 12 midnight EST.
They have set up a reception center.
Press briefing tomorrow 1pm Central time.

I think people need to be careful what they are putting out there. There is quite a bit of misinformation or unknowns about the motive or intention already in this thread. This is a horrible thing to happen, but we all need to make sure that we are sharing accurate information.

The story is horrific. So far, I’ve only read about the tragedy on the New York Times website. I don’t ever want to see a video, but I feel it will be unavoidable.

Curious why you are so adamant it was retaliation for the Rittenhouse verdict? I am extremely sorry for everyone affected by this, I cannot even imagine the horror and sadness, but I don't think a rush to judgement is helpful. |
