Do you ever wonder how we'll get out of this mess? The news is non stop craptastic these days. I'm hopeful that we have enough vaxxed that the anti Vaxxers won't be an issue. what chaps my hide most is the ones who want to boycott Chapman's and other solid businesses trying to do the right thing! my exdh isn't vaccinated. I told him that he is going to never be able to go anywhere with the kids. 🤦♀️ I don't have faith in that yet. We have 2 families on our court who are not vaccinated because the vaccines are "unproven". Vaccines haven't been mandated in elementary or secondary schools yet either and probably won't under the Ford gov't. There are still 3-4 million Ontarians unvaccinated. UGH.

I remember thinking and saying as a little kid (when talking to friends about dangerous critters) that bugs would be the ones that could take us out.
Little did I know I was technically probably right. Just the wrong kind of bugs, not insects in this case, as I was thinking.
Be safe everyone

Until everyone is vaccinated or dead there will be more variants. It is the way they work. But isn’t it true that very few organisms mutate and evolve enough so that they kill off all the other organisms that are essential to its own existence? If this covid virus spreads through humans, would it really evolve to kill off all humans? I understand that the Omnicron variant is certainly more transmissible than earlier ones - it spreads much faster - but what is still unknown is how severe it’s symptoms are. Maybe some of its changes mean it won’t be as severe. And if it spreads quickly and is not as severe, then more people will develop natural immunity. We cannot afford to just wait & see what happens, governments and health authorities have to assume the worst, but the worst may not actually happen. Too early to know yet. I have been thinking the same thing and I find it odd and frustrating that the news media gives half the information. Why not find out how severe the virus is when reporting about it? It feels like they just run with the sensational part of the story and forget to give us the rational and necessary parts of it. Meanwhile the stock market was already tanking today in U.S. due to all the Henry Pennys running about and crying that the sky is falling -.

Yes, that’s what worried me. Not that they maybe wouldnt be able to adjust the mRNA ones - but the time it would take. And if a big enough change would it require new trial data? And production/delivery/dispensing timeframes - globally. 🥴 Ack. I just read something on this and they won’t hVe to do the long trials just a small sample snd supposedly maybe 6 weeks since in theory it’s just small tweaks. Who knows how long to produce and distribute as that was an issue last time. This is assuming one is needed. Hoping we have learned a lot in the last year snd can get them out quicker. Of course it seems resistance to new vaccines is rising. Less people are willing to get a booster than the first two and I bet even less will be ready to take a fourth. I’m really hoping that it’s becoming milder. Hearing the case numbers and how quickly is going up in just a few days is scary if it leads to hospitalizations.

I am adding a link that I hope works it is from someone I follow on FB. Lots of information and I think it is one of two posts that she has posted today. Link to Your local epidemiologistThe case numbers and how quickly it is spreading in one area is crazy - I think they haven't determined what strain it is but no mater its scary.

Of course but sadly many poorer countries just don't have the opportunity to offer it to their entire population yet. Whereas most richer countries have those who won't be team players and don't look at the bigger picture. As has been said many times - no one is safe until we're all safe. Sorry, I wasnt meaning the poorer countries without access. I meant the entitled jerks who have access but refuse to get it. As long as there are poor countries varients WILL have a place to mutate that will threaten all. Vaccines are only going to work when the entire world has access at the same time.

www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/11/26/1059339865/coronavirus-variant-covid-omicron-travel-bansThe Biden administration has already announced new travel restrictions. Who does it affect? The list of countries includes South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia. The policy does not apply to American citizens or lawful permanent residents, but they must still test negative for the coronavirus prior to travel. About a dozen other countries have taken similar action, including the U.K. and some countries in Europe.

Will citizens and permanent residents returning to the US from the affected countries need to quarantine?

I have heard quarantine mentioned but I don’t remember who/where to be honest. ETA, I don’t think it was the US because it was before they’d announced their restrictions I believe, so I don’t know.

Ten per cent of the travelers arriving in Amsterdam from S. Africa today tested positive. And supposedly they had to have a negative test within 24 hours to get on those flights. The travel restrictions are pointless - this variant is already everywhere.

It won’t be contained but the slower it’s introduction and spread the more time to get more people vaxxed/boosted and we just have to hope that helps. But the world is a big place and very many places don’t yet have good vax rates so 🤷🏻♀️

I think quarantine for travellers returning to the UK from southern Africa was mentioned on the BBC new last night. Germany will have 14 days quarantine for those who have been in the risk areas in the past 2 weeks, as this has been declared a 'variant of concern', which automatically means 14 days quarantine, regardless of vaccine status.

BBCAm I allowed to swear? Not surprised really it's just inevitable that other countries will get it. I only hope that they have caught it in time here and are on the ball for contact tracing EVERYONE. At least we can try and contain it.

Will citizens and permanent residents returning to the US from the affected countries need to quarantine? Negative tests to enter have been required since January. Quarantine on return has been on an honor system, and except for the citizens repatriated by the government, never actually been enforced. Most certainly not the way Australia’s was.

I’m also sitting here swearing. I go to Florida in nine days. I can totally see travel bans being implemented everywhere and I won’t get to go. But that’s ok, this would only be the third trip in a row to be cancelled. I’m only half joking. But who the fuck knows anymore?!

Just saw a Hong Kong case came from Canada. This variant is already everywhere, just like Covid was everywhere long before it was acknowledged.
We’re never getting out of this.

Having had a significant reaction to my booster that sent me to the ER 3x, this super concerns me. I can't get any more doses. And I ha e a super high risk dd at home. This is what I wish the anti vaxxers would understand. Their "personal choice" can have dire consequences for people like my dd (fully vaccinated with booster). And those who truly can not be vaccinated. I got my booster on 11/19. I’ve been in a Boston hospital since Thanksgiving. Came in thinking asthma attack. Yeah but in addition to that my cardiac enzymes in my blood kept rising. I’ve had ALL the tests: CT, cardiac ultrasound, cardiac cath….everything is fine, no blockages, heart function is fine but there is a lot of inflammation. I’m here until Mon for a cardiac MRI. They’re wondering if the inflammation is caused by the booster (which I had a bigger reaction to than the previous 2 shots).

We leave for a trip to St. John USVI (considered a domestic flight because it is U.S. Territory) in 3 days. We just got our Covid tests and they came out negative. You can't get on the plane without negative Covid tests. I am so anxious to go because we haven't been in 18 years and it's my favorite place in the world. I hope with all of my being that this new variant doesn't mess up our plans. DH comes back in 2 weeks and I come back in 3 weeks. Who knows what will happen by the time I come back? If I have to quarantine when I come back I will. I did buy N95 masks for the trip.
