Cream cheese, Gatorade (regular and zero), simply Heinz ketchup, diet Dr Pepper, any of the flavored diet or zero sodas like cherry Pepsi or coke have been consistently hard to find. Other items have been hot or miss - largely I think due to trucking issues. A week ago there wasn’t any chicken at our grocery store. Sometimes certain cuts of beef can’t be found. Splenda can be hit or miss. I prefer King Arthur flour and it can be hot or miss. Frozen foods in general seem to be pretty hit or miss if kids or husband want something particular. I do live rurally though which I also think has impacted the ability to get things. I’m a 20 minute drive from the nearest grocery store.

Another hard-to-find item around here is jasmine rice. Most mainline grocery stores don't have it at all. . In northeastern Alberta, I am finding ANY kind of rice difficult to find at any given time. I prefer short grain, and grab pkg of that when it is available. But this week, even the long grain plain brown or white rice was in short supply again. Not sure where our rice comes from. I had thought during 2020 that perhaps we were not getting the usual amounts from China. If that is the case, our shortages now may be because of storms in BC that disrupted shipping on the major highways. We've got rice here in NW Alberta. In our 2 small towns, I haven't been into the city in a few weeks. I saw that the city close to me is having produce shortages at stores like Save On. Locally we have a Co-op store so our stuff comes from Saskatoon, not sure where their warehouse is supplied from. There is a Rice Krispie shortage. DD says people keep asking at the store she works at.

Our local Co-op is known for not predicting annual surges in demand for specific items. The produce section seems to be about as stocked as usual. Fewer mandarin oranges than other years...
Yeah, Rice Krispies are "not available until January". But my Cheerios are still in steady supply. (They weren't for awhile, and dh ordered from Amazon)

Rice Krispies cereal! I make a variety of Krispies treats that are brown butter sea salt bourbon that my brother loves. I wanted to make some for his birthday. I’ve been to three grocery stores and they are out. It might be as simple as people are buying lots for holiday treat making.
I was having a hard time finding Sierra Mist Zero for quite a while, but I’m starting to find it again.

Oh yes that could be it. We use short grain rice for cabbage rolls. Lots of cabbage roll making around here too.

Canned cat food is the main thing I notice. It has been a big source of stress for me the whole pandemic, with 5 fussy mouths to feed here. Same here - the shelves are empty of canned cat food except for a couple of cans of store brand (which my 2 kitties won't touch - they like Fancy Feast in Delicate Sauce). I found some online but for twice the price that they usually are in the stores.
Also...can't find poppy seeds anywhere.

Can you share a recipe? 🙇🏻♀️ ETA, okay, I think I found one. Don’t know if you use this one, but, they look great! I dont know if ots the area or a shortage but i havent found sausage links in over a month. Patties everywhere. I have noticed we can't seem to find Jimmy Dean's ground sausage (other brands, just not Jimmy Deans, which is our preference). That was around Thanksgiving, haven't checked since.

I'm also not seeing empty shelves. Hoping I'm not jinking it but so far so good.

My Safeway store (WA) had plenty of cream cheese (in the boxes), the little tubs of the flavored kind looked scarce though...
Fruitcake fruit, yes, my kids like fruitcake... Twice it wasn't available for my curbside grocery order and I snagged the last container at Safeway when I was there for something else (after I found it at floor level near the apples) what a dumb place to put it! Anyway, now that I know the secret hiding spot I went back a few days later in case they restocked but no luck. I guess we'll only have one loaf of fruitcake this year instead of two.

I can’t find any Little Debbie holiday treats except the Christmas Tree Cakes, which are my least favorite.
We typically get a couple of boxes of her Cherry Cordials and the white chocolate Nutty Buddies, but they are nowhere to be seen this year.

Aldi - pretty well stocked tonight but no spreadable butter, limit 2 on cream cheese, no gatorade, no whipping cream or half n half...
Publix - no sports drinks, frozen vegetables were hit or miss (lots of gaps), no Land o'Lakes spreadable butter, no canned cat food at all (and a limit 10 individual or 1 multi pack sign). I didn't go up all the aisles - just the ones I needed but shelves looked emptier than usual.
And I can't find Aunt Nellies onions (in the glass jar) anywhere and I've been looking since before last Christmas

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but a few months ago there were logistical problems with rice exports around the world. Ships stuck around the world meant that the containers needed for rice were still in use or on the sea somewhere else. As for Rice Krispies, I wonder if the Kelloggs strike has had an impact.

DH is a home builder. They are having issues with almost everything. Once one thing gets back on track, another has issues. Windows are a big issue right now. Also duct work. He has 2 houses that are about to be shut down bc the heating and air guy can’t get the duct work.

I love a box of Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes, and I haven’t found them at any stores this year. Don't hate me, but I have bought some at both Walmart and Kroger in the last two months. I think I have 3 boxes in the pantry right now, two vanilla and one chocolate. I have threatened my family that "they are for Christmas". I saw the Walmart still had some when I was there this week. My niece has been unable to find more the Little Debbie gingerbread men.

Today I stopped in Central Market (owned by HEB) for a few things not available at HEB yesterday. There were a few bags of tater tots so I picked up one. So definitely some shipping or distribution issues going on.
Non grocery related - I stopped by Talbots today to look for a pair of jeans. They had removed several racks and display tables since I was there a couple of weeks ago. The racks that were there were not packed with clothing. Told DD it almost looked like they had been robbed! Meanwhile they keep running a 40% off the entire store sale. Definitely stock issues going on with Talbots.

It was nearly "The Christmas Without Chex Mix" here, and what a sad tale that would have been. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) We make a special recipe and give a large container to all of our neighbors and close friends. We have a mix-making party with my mom, DD and brother, so we're supplying three households. I prefer to make it with Crispix (for the rice and corn) and then add Wheat Chex. No sign of Crispix on the shelves in any Kroger or Meijer store. I wasn't aware of the Kellogg's strike, but I'm sure that's the problem there. I couldn't find any of the Chex varieties at Kroger. I nearly cleaned out the second Meijer we went to tonight for Corn, Rice and Wheat. So now we're in good shape. Oh, I'm also looking for crushed peppermints/candy canes. I can usually find those before Christmas. We use them to top our peppermint ice cream pies in Oreo crusts on Christmas Day. No sign of them at any of the stores I've been in. Off to check Target online and Amazon. I've gotten into the mode lately that "if you see it and you think you might need it, buy it now." I bought a couple of boxes of Funfetti cupcake mix and tubs of frosting for any holiday events that pop up in the next couple of weeks. I also bought cream cheese thanks to the Peas, although it was still in good supply.

The shortages I'm seeing seem to be temporary, so most likely shipping issues. Today there were no tater tots at HEB, though there were plenty of frozen fries. A few weeks ago that was reversed. There were no boxes of regular Kellogg's Raisin Bran, and only 2 boxes of Post Raising Bran. No thanks, I'm a '2 scoop' girl! And the Jif peanut butter was in short supply. Finding Heinz Simply ketchup is like looking for a needle in a haystack for months now. Empty spots on the shelves here and there all over the store. I'm sure when I go back next week some of these things will be there, while something else will be missing or in short supply Kellogg’s is on strike. Same story, different verse, huge profits, CEO got over $11 million, forced 60 hour weeks and weekends on hourly staff and wants them to take pay cuts and lose benefits. Now they are firing everyone on strike to hire scabs. Should be plenty of cereal soon because labor unions and people who support fair work practices are boycotting their entire product line, not just Kellogg’s.

No store brand or names brand. It’s the oddest thing.
