What was the point of that? The patrons were already there? Why cancel at that point ? Sorry, but that is nuts.
I understand canceling performances (before their scheduled date), I truly do & think that may be the right thing to do, but seriously … canceling that particular one at that point was uncalled for…patrons may have gotten ticket refunds but not refunds for parking, Uber, Lyft, Taxis, gasoline, etc.

I want to add that that Radio City Music Hall does not have the masking and other requirements that the Broadway houses do. And as of a matter of fact, they do not require masking indoors for their patrons or their staff. Wow, I didn't know that. I would not consider going to a show where there would be unmasked audience. I had plans to go to the Met with DH and the kids this week, but no way will I take that risk now.

What a silly question.

It’s mind boogling, but because they are not a Broadway house, they don’t have to adhere to the same standards.

I'm not sure how radio city doesn't have those restrictions. That seems bizarre. You can't go anywhere in NYC without showing proof of vaccination...dining, museums etc

We saw the Rockettes, they were requiring vaccines or negative PCR. Masking was required also.

And they’ve made a point throughout the Christmas Spectacular run to make a big pre-show announcement that no one has to mask. Go figure.

We were sitting in our NYC theater seats - waiting for something on December 4- and a lady blew in -- that Saturday performance of Wicked had just been canceled. I think that was the first performance canceled -- now it's everywhere! The unfortunate thing is that testing standards are behind -- and there needs to be some differentiation between asymptomatic and symptomatic -- we need to be testing viral load. I think that is what the NFL is going to start doing --

Still..,they didn’t know they had ill performers before the patrons entered the theater?

What a silly question.
Well - I didn’t think it was silly You didn’t indicate they cancelled that performance due to ill cast members and ill understudies. Still..,they didn’t know they had ill performers before the patrons entered the theater?
My apologies, I met what I perceived as snark (the first paragraph, especially the last sentence) with snark. That is atypical for me. So, the problem is that performers (as well as musicians, front of the house staff, and anyone who works in the theatre) have to be tested several times a week. Often those results are done day of a show, and sometimes results don’t come back in time to perform that evening. This is a huge problem with Omicron with SO many people testing positive…and which really only showed up on Bway in the last 2 weeks. I mean I was there a month ago, saw a slew of shows, and Omicron and big outbreaks weren’t even on our mind. So now, the task is how to change the Covid protocols (there is the Broadway League, theatre owners, and the unions involved and who have to agree) to try and mitigate this moving forward. People who work in theatre have to be able to live their lives, so they can’t all be locked up to prevent getting Omicron (or Delta). I personally don’t see anything getting better until after at least mid January (if not longer) due to the end of the year holidays, and then the time it can take for the virus to show itself. Hopefully that explanation is more helpful.

The last couple of weeks have been really bad, but I think last night was the worst, 6 or 7 shows canceled, one of which canceled 10 minutes after it was supposed to start with patrons already in their seats. There are Covid protocols for testing all theatre staff, but clearly they are not able to keep up with this variant. Looks like even more shows than that will be canceled this evening. The Broadway (and larger NYC and worldwide performing arts community) was decimated by the first shut down. I don’t know if they can take something like that again, but something is going to have to be done to get perfomers and other theatre staff tested earlier in the day to get results back far before curtain. People aren’t going to travel to NY and buy theatre tickets if this keeps up. I know I would have been so sad had this happened when I was out this time last month. Also, apparently The West End had an even dozen shows cancel this evening. Buckle up friends, this is going to be a bumpy ride. Didn't read the rest of the thread so I don't know if it was already explained. Company was cancelled in progress not because of Covid, indirectly. There was a case of food poisoning and no swings available.

NO, they did not know early enough. Ever had food poisoning or a stomach bug hit you like a mac truck, all of a sudden? That's what happened.

I realized that might have been the case after I hit post! LOL It's all been quite a blur. I've been in to see shows twice this week and really lucked out! Though, have been keeping close tabs on DEH because we were seated so close to the stage that I could see every drop of saliva! Dd has a friend in nearly every musical currently plus she works at Steps on Broadway so has been hearing so much. It's crazy! SHe actually replaced a Rockette in a non-Rockette related video yesterday because the dancer had to go quarantine. It really is time for these shows to hire more swings, at least to get through this surge!

We’ve been planning NYC for Christmas since summer. We have tickets to The Nutcracker. For some reason I couldn’t decide on other shows and figured we’d pick up whatever we could find when we got there. Maybe that was a good decision at this point. We watched On Pointe on Disney+ (A year in the life of students in the School of American Ballet in NYC - from 2020. The show ended with the school closing and students going home because of COVID. It showed the preparation for the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center and we are really looking forward to seeing it.) Total aside, but thanks for mentioning the show - we know a few kids who were there at the time, so need to watch! I hope your trip is smoother than it seems right now! We loved watching it. The kids impressed me so much. They all seemed really driven but grounded.

We saw the Rockettes over Thanksgiving and I had no idea until we were in the theater that masks weren't required! (I knew they weren't a Broadway theater, but we also saw off-Broadway shows and masks were required and very strictly enforced at every other theater. At one show they made people change out masks if they didn't fit properly.) I would not have gone if we had realized they weren't masking--and the vast majority of the people around us were not masked. They were very diligent about checking vaccine cards, so that gave us a bit of comfort (although unvaxxed kids could get in). I've been half-following the show closures. It's so disappointing and will probably mean the end for several shows. I know Chicken and Biscuits closed early because early covid-closures just killed it economically.

This breaks my heart as a native New Yorker. I can imagine the devastation another round of closures will do to Broadway and its environs, and just when things were starting to look up. So sad….

Has anything else shut down? We are supposed to go in January so I’m watching this thread. I do know a bunch of NYC shows did not perform again today. This isn’t going to turn around on a dime, there are too many known infected people in NYC (and around the world) right now. I wish you all the best figuring out what to do. I read ABC7 NYC web page when I want to know what’s going on in NY (not just Covid related).

My sister and her family were supposed to see Hamilton tonight. She got notice yesterday afternoon that it was canceled. This will be the 3rd time it's been postponed for them. Luckily they live in CT and can take a train in, but I feel for everyone who travels long distance that can't change their plans at the last second. First world probably for sis and family but knowing how massively they've been looking forward to the show, they're really upset. I am so sorry. That’s has to be terribly disappointing. Rumor has it that Hamilton currently has 19 cast members who are Covid+. Knowing that, one has to wonder how many patrons are as well and don’t know it. They may well have dodged a bullet by not sitting in that theatre this evening :/ I follow a girl who is in the NYC Hamilton cast on TikTok and she is sick. And mentioned the show is cancelled.
