A few weeks ago, I was contemplating buying tickets for To Kill a Mockingbird. I really wanted to see it before Jeff Daniels leaves at the end of the year. I'm glad I procrastinated.

Feels a bit like March 2020. Yes, it does.

We just learned the Nutcracker canceled through the 27th. Our tickets were for the 27th. julee - I’m like 90% sure I’m going to cancel our trip - the numbers are just through the roof and the forecast is for cold and drizzly weather which isn’t great for walking everywhere. I’m hoping to reschedule in the spring. Super bummed. I also now need to make an alternate plan for next week!

We don’t do gifts anymore, but plan a trip for Christmas. I’m going to have to come up with another plan. I’m trying not to be bitter because there are so many worse things about this than our plans. I’m heartbroken for NYC and all the actors and dancers in all the shows getting cancelled. Again. I hope to plan it again some year down the road. But it feels really bleak right now.

J u l e e and ~summer~, I’ve been wondering if either or both of you ended up continuing with your travel plans, and if so, how’s it going?

MichyM, we did not end up going. We’ll be getting our tickets refunded. I am determined to make it to NYC for Christmas one of these years and hope we’re all in a much better place in 2022! I had already taken vacation days and we were set on a trip, so we packed up anyway and drove down to Western Kentucky yesterday. I found a place in need of volunteers to prepare meals at a disaster relief site, so we’re working with Mercy Chefs in Mayfield. We got a hotel in Murray, about 20 minutes away and just got back after making coleslaw, baked apples, chopping endless boxes of tomatoes for salads, and serving meals to some 600 displaced people at His House church. I feel like the whole world is hurting right now and I just couldn’t be upset about our plans being canceled anymore.

Not really. Seriously. It’s just how I handle disappointment. And my heart is breaking today. It looks like hell down here.

J u l e e and ~summer~, I’ve been wondering if either or both of you ended up continuing with your travel plans, and if so, how’s it going? Ok well I’m a total heel next to J u l e e - the numbers were just too high in nyc, shows shutting down, weather not great — so yes we cancelled. We rescheduled to Denver which so far is amazing! The neighborhood we are in is spectacular and we will walk all over the city tomorrow then either head to RMNP or ski in Vail. So far- our hotel we are at everyone is masking - and the restaurant we went to checked our vaccination status. I now have a large credit on Alaska airlines and a big itinerary so we will reschedule for spring. I know Christmas is magical in the city but I honestly prefer longer days and slightly milder temperatures. By the way I watched the ken burns documentary on the making of the Brooklyn bridge which was really anazing.

Not at all, ~summer~. I am in awe of your planning skills. I’m not a great trip planner. It takes me a lot of time and research and I just didn’t have it in me. I’m glad you’re having a great time. I would love to be snowboarding somewhere right now. It’s close to 70 here and home in Ohio.
