I’m singing along. I’ve known all the songs since before the movie came out. My parents had the Broadway cast recording. On vinyl. That we played on the hi-fi. Mary Martin I have that vinyl, too. I've been listening to it since I was a kid. On the "Victrola" as my grandmother used to call absolutely any record player at all.

I adore this movie. When i was a kid they showed it closer to the holiday, or perhaps right on the actual day, because my cousins would be in and we used to act out "So Long, Farewell"in my grandmother's teeny tiny little living room every year, and she'd keep squawking at us that we were going to break something, LOL!

Humbug to all you dissenters! I’ve seen this movie so many times I’ve lost count.

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I can’t stand this movie. No, I hate it also. My aunt took my mom, my cousin, and me to see it when it came out. Couldn’t stand it as a 6 year old!

Last night was the first time I have seen the entire movie. It was one of those movies that you have heard about for so long, and have seen many scenes from it, that you forget that you have never actually seen the entire thing.
I enjoyed it. I'm not sure why it is a Christmas movie, but I liked it!

I watched it every year when I was a kid. Right after they got married, they cut to a commercial break and my mom always said, "That's it! Movie's over! Off to bed!" I didn't even know that there were Nazis in the movie until I was 12. One of the reasons I have trust issues.

The scene where he tells her that he loves her is just soooo romantic. Sigh.

This woman had only ever seen the first half of the movie and had no idea about the Nazis either, so when she would talk about the movie it was like she was talking about a completely different film then anyone who had seen the whole movie. Did your mom think you were too young to see the Nazis for some reason or was it just because it was on too late?

This one’s a family favorite for us. My Poppa was stationed in Austria during WWII and he loved to watch this film for the scenery. I actually bought my Mom and I tickets to Tulsa PAC to see the musical in January as one of her Christmas presents.

I only watched through the party. I had to get up early. This is one of my all time favorite movies. I think the dance between Maria and Captain Von Trapp is the most romantic love scene in a movie. No talking needed. No kissing. No nothing!

I found out when I was discussing the character of Rolf with a friend. I thought he was great and my friend said, except for the whole Nazi thing. I was like, whut?!? Off to look up "This American Life". . .

I love this movie. And I don’t even like movies! Lol I really loved watching it as a child- our mom would make it into an event with popcorn and punch and we’d stay up late. I loved all the kids and wanted to sing with them. 😂❤️

I love it, but didn't watch it this year. I watched it with my sister, who never saw it, and she loved it. She's sixty LOL.
ETA - how did she never see it and how did I watch it so many times and she didn't? We've lived together forever. Weird.

I didn't get to watch the entire movie also until I was either late teens or an adult, for the same reason. My mom would always turn it off before the nazi stuff, mostly just so we'd go to bed. I mean, it is a 3 hour movie. But still! Same thing with the Ten Commandments movie with Charlton Heston. It was always on Easter Sunday afternoon, but we always had to go for dinner before the end of it so I'd never seen the entire thing until recently

One of the few movies that came on TWO vhs tapes when we rented it. That, and the Ten Commandments.
I don't really think of this as a Christmas movie, either, but I'll take it over A Christmas Story every time.

I made a comment yesterday about the Wizard of Oz always in TV this time of year and sure enough, it’s on tonight!

I adore this movie. 100% because I’m a massive, nerdy fan girl for Same Julie Andrews. She’s AMAZING

I've never seen it. Result of growing up without tv.
