I’m glad cops are being held accountable. They ARE NOT above the law!

I’m glad to see this - I was really starting to worry the longer the jury took.

I don’t think Prison will be any worse than the hell she must be experiencing from doing this .

I don't think I'd known about this case but have just seen it here on the news here. She seemed truly shocked by what she'd done? What was her explanation as to why she used her gun instead of her taser?

What was her explanation as to why she used her gun instead of her taser? She said it was an accident. That she truly thought she had her taser in her hand. She cried while on the stand.

I honestly am sick that she was found guilty. What is next? Charge doctors and nurses for murder if a medical error kills someone?

I thought it was interesting that the jury had decided on the second degree charge at 10:30 on Tuesday morning. I can see why it took longer to decide on the first degreased charge. I kind of thought she'd be convicted on the second degree charge, but acquitted on the first. I'm glad she was found guilty of both.

I don’t think she should have been convicted of murder. Other charges certainly but no one says it was intentional. These verdicts don’t make sense. Overcharging this woman doesn’t make me feel an ounce better about all of the black people murdered by police with no justice. My friends who are beaten by police bc they can and it’s so common would never make it to court let alone national news.
I don’t see anything that will lead to institutional change. I think it’s an over charge. I also don’t understand why tasers and guns look so alike. Other killings by taser have shown how similar they look. Why? What the fuck are we doing as a country?
ETA: she was convicted of first and second degree manslaughter. I was wrong about the charges.

I don’t think she should have been convicted of murder. She WAS NOT convicted of murder. Also, her taser and gun look nothing alike. There is so much wrong with what you posted it’s unbelievable.

Why can people on this website not handle other opinions? and yes they don’t look alike but they feel alike in when under the stress of the situation…..her going to prison is wrong to me. But respect your opinion and will not chastise you for it

When my mom called and told me the verdict she must have misunderstood. My fault. Guns and tasers often look incredibly alike. What about my post is so incredibly wrong? I’m sick of laws, indictments, convictions, and sentences that are all over the place and arbitrary. I don’t think this verdict will make black people safer from the police 🤷🏽♀️. Manslaughter seems a bit closer to what she did so I guess we’ll see what the sentence is.

Yes, it is called medical malpractice and can result in civil and criminal penalties depending on the situation. It is why you are trained to follow policy when you are dealing with life and death situations.

If a doctor removes a right kidney instead of the left kidney and says oops, believe me there will be hell to pay. If you do not know the difference between a real gun and taser, then may be you should go back to school. And her full teeth smiling mugshot pic I saw today makes me wanna puke

She shot at him as he was driving away. I don’t think she mixed up her taser and gun at all. I think she was trying to kill him.

What bothered me the most was while he was dying, instead of offering him aid, she was worried she was going to go to prison.
After nearly 20years of having a taser on her belt, in my opinion, she needed to know the difference instinctually.
I’m happy with the verdict.

I feel bad for her, as well as for the family of Daunte Wright. I didn’t watch much of the trial but from the time it happened I could believe that it was a mistake. Obviously, a deadly mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

Seems much more likely for a mistake to happen in the heat of the moment if they are right next to each other.

www.google.com/amp/s/abcnews.go.com/amp/US/wireStory/explainer-confuse-gun-taser-81894695 The phenomena of “weapons confusion” is well known in policing, according to the prosecution's use-of-force expert, Seth Stoughton, a professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He testified that he knew of “fewer than 20” cases since Tasers were introduced in 1993 in which officers used their firearms instead. He said the manufacturer has taken steps to try to prevent such errors and it's become an important part of the training officers get. WHY DOES IT HAPPEN? Reasons that have been cited include officer training, the way they carry their weapons and the pressure they feel during dangerous and chaotic situations. To avoid confusion, officers typically carry their stun guns on their weak sides, away from handguns holstered on their dominant hand’s side. That’s how Potter carried hers. Jurors at Potter's trial heard testimony from a state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent about the differences between the two weapons and how officers use them, with photographs to illustrate. Sam McGinnis testified that the holsters on Potter’s duty belt require an officer to take deliberate actions to release the weapons. The gun holster has a snap, while the Taser holster has a lever. The black handgun weighs just over 2 pounds (0.9 kilograms), while the mostly yellow Taser weighs just under a pound (0.45 kilograms), he said. The Taser and gun also have different triggers, grips and safety mechanisms that must be engaged before firing, McGinnis testified. The Taser has a laser and LED lights that display before it is fired, which he demonstrated for the jury, while the handgun does not. The differences between Potter’s Glock and her Taser are quite noticeable. www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsnationnow.com/race-in-america/kim-potter-trial-jurors-see-differences-between-gun-taser/amp/
