Sounds like it's time for a Ring or Nest type doorbell and two signs.. one that says "No Trespassing" and one that says "You are being recorded."

He probably was getting up the courage the first time to approach you. I know you think a few inches onto the sidewalk is not a big deal, but imagine if he was in a wheelchair. Could he still fit? Can a stroller fit? Easily fit, not brushing up against a truck bumper. You are not likely to win this argument if you report him or whatever because you’re in the wrong. Most cities have laws against blocking the sidewalk. [b So the sidewalk goes across the driveway and there is another foot or so. A wheelchair, stroller or anything have still have lots of room. You barely have to make a little step around. You don’t have to use the street or go into the grass. You only have to leave 15 ft before the mail box and 15 ft on the other side of the mailbox. Is there no room after (or before) the 15ft area to park?

Merge Omaha is the same with sidewalks. The homeowner is responsible for sidewalk maintenance. The city will mark sidewalks that need repair and send notice to the homeowner. The homeowner has x number of days to complete the repair. If not done by the due date, the city repairs the sidewalk and bills the homeowner. It’s typically cheaper to hire out the repair. The city is expensive. I wish they would do that here. The sidewalks just go unfixed. Lots of older residents who can't necessarily afford the repair. Walking in my neighborhood is like navigating a minefield, lol. Most people walk in the street.

No one has ever been able to define it for me, which drives *me* batty about this board. It seems like according to your comment shouldn’t give my opinion on something if I arbitrarily come in ‘too late’ and too many other people have already agreed with me? That’s equally nuts.

I like to run and it is a totally pet peeve not to mention illegal to block the sidewalk. I don't think it was weird at all for him to approach you and say something before just reporting you to the city. I wonder where some of you love or if my neighborhood is just a unicorn in that we try to be neighborly. And this was him, trying to address it with you first before reporting you. And you think he's weird? The thing he’s NOT trying to say anything .. he just stands on the porch with the unleashed dog staring in the house. Then walks away. It is very creepy. It is creepy.

Can you park the car perpendicular/sideways to the driveway? Can you make a small parking pad for the car off to the side on the front lawn? This is common on my street. Busy, no parking on street, multiple cars. People have gotten creative so they can get the cars fully off the sidewalk.

I’m not piling on, but wanted to put something out there.
My son is blind and uses a cane. He knows how to sweep his cane to the edges of the sidewalk. If your dons truck is out even a few inches it will block him. It might not seem like a big deal to you, and your probably right in most instances it might not matter. For my son it would, so just putting out another reason that there are laws in place for this reason.

I live in a residential area in a big city. We have 2 cars will be needing another one soon for my kid. Our neighbors have 3 cars. We all park one in the driveway the others on the street. We park wherever there is a space regardless of whose house it is in front of. The street belongs to everyone, not part of anyone’s property.

If you're not blocking it enough for someone to have to physically leave the sidewalk, the cops aren't going to do anything. You're not allowed to block a mailbox either.
Here in my HOA, we're not supposed to park on the street but some people have to. The driveways aren't long enough for two cars in a line without blocking the sidewalk totally, which I find mildly annoying when I'm walking the dog or running, but it's less annoying than literally half the (narrow) streets blocked by cars parked on them.
The wars in the FB group about parking are never-ending.
I would tell that man to go on and call the police and we'll just let them settle the issue, bit until then, I'd keep parking as is unless you routinely see people having to go off the sidewalk to get past his car.
And while the police are at it they can settle his off-leash dog in your yard, make sure and tell him that.

OK OK she gets it. She said they would stop. For Pete's sake this one of the things drives me batty about this board. Pile on - pile on!! I am all about not piling on but sometimes I just open a thread, read it and post my response. So 30 people or 0 may have posted the same thing before me. If people didn’t post their thoughts after a couple of people posted theirs all the threads would be very short threads. 😉 I don’t think this was a pile on, just that the majority of the responders agree that the guy should not have his unleashed dog on your property but moving the truck to a legal parking situation would probably take care of the entire situation. I am sorry you are having to go through this, workingclassdog, parking situations stink and are stressful. Good luck finding a situation that works for everyone and hopefully that will also take care of the unwanted guy. I would also make sure to setup your ring so you have video if he continues.

I think it is creepy that the guy w/the dog stares at your house and comes to the door, but doesn't ask to speak w/you. This can be easily worked out, but you have to communicate w/him, unless he's a whack-a-doo. I sometimes use a scooter to go down the block to the store. Admittedly, it's not easy to use it on the sidewalk, but it's dangerous to use it on the street. A clear sidewalk is really important for disabled people and as others mentioned, strollers. When you're on a scooter it's harder to maneuver it one way or the other w/o feeling like you're gonna tip over.
You're not a bad person and I am not angry about any of this, just giving my perspective. While mild, there is a pile-on nature to this thread and there doesn't need to be.

It is illegal to block any part of the sidewalk here with your car. I actually looked it up because there are 3 houses where the occupants do it. And they too have garages and yet insist on parking 3-4 cars on their driveways - not in their garage, not on the street, but blocking part of the sidewalk. I am forced while walking my dogs to have to walk into the street/gutter, although when I can, I walk in between their cars and across their lawn. I’d rather damage their lawn than walk in the street due to their illegal behavior. This is a daily occurrence and I hate it. I dream about calling the police on them and having them ticketed, but don’t want the hassle it would cause with multiple neighbors. I have absolutely zero sympathy for you and your son in this case. You are in the wrong on this one. Clear out enough of your garage to park a car or two in there. Or have him park in the street. One of you can park somewhere on your street without blocking your mailbox. NO ONE should have to walk around your vehicles on a regular basis when they are trying to walk their dog on the sidewalk. This is one of my biggest pet peeves and makes me angry on a daily basis. Okay did you actually see I said I was in the wrong. I don’t want sympathy. I understand. I am sure I made it clear there is no blocking other than a few inches. No one has to go out of their way. But I see I am wrong and admit it.

Can you not pull the truck up a couple of inches? I doubt if it is only an inch or two thebpolice will do anything, but some wheelchairs need the whole sidewalk No he as pulled it up as far as it can go. There is a car that is parked in front of the truck. It’s basically up to the bumper. Since you don't seem comfortable with street parking; is it possible to replace one (or both) vehicles with something shorter?

So, no, I didn’t see that you said you were in the wrong before I wrote my response. It is a very sore subject for me. It has been an annoying issue in my life for a long time, so I come across as pretty opinionated about it. I’m pretty certain that I have even vented about it on a “post your vent/whine” thread or two here over the years. I’m sorry if you were the target of my abundance of feelings on the topic.

So there is a designated number of people who are allowed to agree (or not) with something at which point after it becomes a pile on? I mean the nature of this board means that 20 people could be replying at same the time I am. I mean I completely get it’s no fun to be told you’re wrong about something by a majority, and at some point it *would* be beating a dead horse - just trying to figure what that point is, cause it seems arbitrary, and sometimes very much depending on who the OP is. 🤷🏼♀️

And FWIW, I agree WCD is probably going to have to figure another option to find safe parking - but I also think that the unleashed dog on her property is an issue (and knowing her background) understand why that is bothering her.

If he politely approached your door, knocked and had a conversation about the truck, I might be inclined to try to figure out a solution, such as pulling the front car up a wee bit.
His coming up to your house and staring is creepy as hell. He sounds like a bit of a busybody looking for trouble.
If the issue is truly over 2 or 3 inches, I wouldnt change other than to try to pull the front car up a bit. If he comes and stares at your house again, I might call the non-emergency line and just talk to the police about their thoughts on his behavior.

I chose a neighborhood without an HOA so I could park however I wanted. Sometimes my car blocks a half an inch of the sidewalk, I have a short driveway. I only park my car in the driveway when the city is street sweeping once a week or puts up no parking signs.
I’d still be uncomfortable with a random neighbor or person coming to my door, standing there, and then leaving. Only to do it once or twice more. I live in a very pedestrian heavy part of a city, not a quiet suburb.

I live in a very pedestrian heavy part of a city, not a quiet suburb. HOAs in many places, including my county, have nothing to do with it being illegal to park blocking any part of a sidewalk. Those are county/city laws, not neighborhood HOA restrictions. For example, where I live, Fairfax County 82-5-1(a)(1) is the code that specifies that it is illegal to park on any part of a sidewalk. It doesn’t matter whether you live where there is an HOA or not.
