What creative thing do you do with cards received? Whether it’s birthday or holiday, do you “do” something with them? Something to save them? Do you save them forever? Do you toss them? Do you save them for a certain length of time? Do you save some, not all?
Just trying to figure something new out maybe. I have tons of them from over the years, and they’re kind of organized, but I’m not sure what I really want to do with them.

I save winter holiday cards but beyond that I toss any other card I get unless it has a handwritten message on the inside that I want to read again. Or I'll keep them if it's a handmade card and I can take the front of the card off and use it in my project life or maybe on a layout.
ETA: with the winter holiday cards I put them in my December Daily at the end of the book.

In the past I have cut the people out of family photo cards and put them in pocket pages - I have an album of them with my friends’ kid growing up, it’s quite lovely. A Becky Higgins idea.
Handmade and store bought cards generally get their fronts cut off/die cut down to A2 size and attached to a new card base to donate to Bring Smiles to Seniors. I can’t possibly keep all the cards I receive (especially if I do the Pea card swap) and I don’t hesitate if there’s just a signature inside. If there’s a really sweet message it might go into my memory box. If the card is really lovely I keep it on display a while or put it with holiday decorations for a few years, but sooner or later they usually get cut down and reused/donated.

I mostly toss all cards except for Christmas photo cards of close family.

I toss all cards, unless it's got something heartfelt written inside that I want to keep.
Daily paperwork and stuff (cards, catalogs, bills, medical, receipts, etc...) that is not a priority, goes in the paperwork pile. About once a month-ish, I go through my paperwork pile, file what needs to be filed, toss the rest. If there is a card that I want to keep, it gets put in my treasure box. A decorative "hat box" type box, that is incorporated into my home decor.
I have never been sentimental about cards, they get shredded and tossed without a second thought. The same goes for gift items that I won't use, doesn't match my stuff, don't need or want, etc... (mugs, scarves, frames, throw blankets, knick knacks, generic bath and body type products, generic or homemade food products, teapots or tea cups, etc...). It's the thought that counts. I smile and thank the giver for their kindness and for thinking of me. But, the majority of what I receive is regifted, donated or tossed. Life is too short and my space is too small....to keep "stuff" that I won't use, don't want, don't need, don't like, doesn't match my home decor. I don't feel guilty about it at all.

I occasionally keep cards from DH. I have a box for any cards I keep.
I put Christmas photo cards from loved ones in my scrapbook. The ones that are more from acquantances I toss.
I use my tag punch on Christmas cards to make tags for gifts for next year. I have a really pretty collection of tags.

I just saw an idea on FB to turn them into bookmarks. They then leave them in the Little Free Libraries. But the library or schools would probably also take them.

I save cards from my SO and immediate family or certain family, I like to preserve handwriting. I've scanned some of the writing in at times to keep.
Photo cards I keep and usually will put with my scrapbook layouts for the year, or sometimes one of those like big plastic envelopes that go with the year.
This is the 1st time I did the pea swap...I am planning on punching a circle from various cards and envelopes (I kept them to show all the places they came from) and make a layout with it.
I also do as above, cut the fronts off and reuse. I never thought about donating it that way, but that is a good idea too. I like the idea of tags also, I could do that with a tag die.
Otherwise recycle it!

I would prefer to throw them away but DH keeps them all so we have a large box of cards for all of us. I’m personally good with just one I or rant card from certain family members. I do cherish the couple of cards I have from my grandparents- especially those my grandfather signed himself back grandma doing it.

The only cards I keep are the ones from my husband. Others go on the dining room buffet or another bookcase for a week or two and get discarded. If there is something I can use on a card ( store bought or homemade) I'll save those pieces.
Cards with glitter do not stay long in the house.

I use them in scrapbooks for celebrations. In fact, I managed to scrap almost all of my engagement and wedding cards in that album.
Christmas cards I have scrapped or turned into tags.
Sometimes I have fussy cut elements from a card to use. I have also saved the back of cards to use for matting photos.

Generally the only cards I keep are from close family and a few from friends. I do keep a few swap cards that go into my DD album. Otherwise they generally get tossed although I should probably do what joblackford does and recycle them into new cards!

I make a front cover and back cover and make them into a book by punching a couple of small holes, attaching them with ribbon or heavy twine.

I have an old time scrapbook from the 50's I keep all my handmade cards in. If someone takes the time and effort to make a card for me, I take it personally and save it in my book. I have get well, birthday, Christmas, and thank you cards. The book also serves as an idea source, when I can't think of anything. Also I just like going thru it once in a while. I do try to repurpose the store bought cards. I like to make small boxes from them. If they are local I put a small gift in the box and give it back to the sender. Here is an example; www.flickr.com/photos/22190803@N07/51786381525/in/dateposted-public/

I have a few years of my own birthday cards I want to do this with. They have my parent's writing in them, and my mom passed away this summer, so I am keeping them for sure now.

I’m sorry for the of your mom, kelly8875.

i am part of a Christmas Card Swap each year. I cannot bear to throw away the lovely handmade cards I receive. I cut off the back and remount the front on a card base. These cards are then given to my co-workers (32) friends and family. That way, someone else can enjoy a handmade card. I don't get many other handmade cards, except at Christmas.

85% of the 50-60 cards that we receive are photo cards. I have been keeping them and done the punch hole and binder rings thing. But we have several years of those and no one looks at them even me. My new idea is to sort them by family so we can see the families grow/change over time. Each family will have a 6x8 sleeve in a mini binder and I will just add the newest one in front with the oldest in the back. I picked up a couple of Christmas binders at TM a while ago that have pretty thick spines and should work well for this.
With this in mind I will probably toss several people/families that are personal friends but not necessarily close or family friends.
For the store bought cards or the 1-2 handmade cards we get I will salvage any thing that I can use in my scrapbooks, any writing from family members and then toss.

For Christmas, I take photos of them together.
For all other holidays they are tossed after a few days.
I recently purged my wedding and graduation cards (high school and college). I saw no need to keep them.
This year I kept 1 pea exchange card and put it in a pocket of my DD.

Handmade cards from my craft friends I hang up in my craft room. I bought some lighted clips that you can get off of amazon and I hang them up to enjoy. They are art and inspire me! I change them with the seasons! I do like the idea of repurposing and sending to the Seniors joblackford!

All cards with glitter get tossed, immediately.
I will cut out personal messages and ones my dad sends because he draws a deer in them (he is a HORRIBLE drawer, they are hysterical). Those pieces go into project life. Occasionally I'll hole punch a card and include it in the album as well. My family knows me well and tends to buy me smaller, sassy type cards that I will include.
I take a photo of Christmas card we receive, include it in December Daily. A few of the photo type cards end up on our fridge.
Everything else is recycled.

Some cards I punch one edge and put right in my planner.
Store bought cards I ( mostly ) throw out after displaying them
Handmade cards I save. Sometimes I’ll frame them. Sometimes I’ll leave them up by my craft desk. Sometimes I’ll repurpose them to book marks or other cards.

A few, like photo cards from my daughters, get used in my December Daily. The rest get admired for a while and then get recycled.

www.veronikasblushing.com/2013/04/diy-transform-your-baby-shower-cards.htmlI saw this cute idea to turn your cards into diy wall art. The blog post used baby shower cards but I think this would also make an easy and cute Holiday decoration with Christmas cards cut into stars. Wedding cards…..endless possibilities. I pretty much keep all the cards we get, especially if they have handwriting in them. Sometimes they actually go into my PL if I’m organized enough.

I usually save them all, in bundles by when they were received, but have not done anything with them.
This week I actually used some of the handmade cards I received from the Peas on some of my Christmas pages. I left the cards whole and just glued down the backs. They are inside page protectors, but if the page were slipped out, you could open the card and read the greeting.
