I just bought 200+ books. đ $17 for all. Some we will sell, others we will donate.
Our city has set up dumpsters for residents to throw away large items for free. (Chairs, etc). My Dad has already taken one truck load and will likely take 1 to 2 tomorrow.
About to donate some stuff too. Been taking things off eBay.
I need to take recycling off but I really don't want to. Feeling better, just paranoid about doing too much

Today I started my seasonal clothes switch and got rid of a lot of stuff. I have one corner of my bedroom that was filled with clothes that is now more manageable with just outgoing laundry. I also organized my magazines, reshelved some books and started a shred pile for UPS. I discovered they only charge $1 per pound and what a relief it was to take things I was just letting pile up over to them to get shredded. Itâs not far from me so Iâm planning to go once a month or so.
Next up is my front closet. I need space for my new vacuum cleaner and if I clean the floor in that closet it should work.

I've been pretty haphazard with my decluttering lately. I added a pair of shoes I couldn't stand in properly when I tried them on this week, and did a quick clean up of my drawers when I was putting away the washing. I've also added one of DH's shirts to the donate pile, he hasn't worn it since pre-pandemic despite going back into the office at every opportunity. I've now got a full bag to donate so the next time I'm heading past one of the donation bins I'll drop it off.

How do people deal with spouses that donât want to get rid of stuff. We have some HD DVDs (version that failed vs blu ray) they havenât been watched in more than 10 years but he wonât let them go we do still have the machine but itâs not hooked up. A few decorative pieces I have tried to purge the same thing - not family heirlooms or anything just old decore I bought or was gifted 20+ years ago. Iâm tired of dusting around them lol. Iâm am just working around these to other items but itâs frustrating sometimes. I have the same issue with my DH. I had planned to get rid of the wii by sending it to my sister for the garage sale she held recently but DH decided he wants to keep it despite not having used it since we moved in together (it was my wii originally), and other than one quick game on it he hasn't touched it since. He tried to pull several things back out of the boxes I'd packed up for the garage sale, saying they were useful. I'm lucky that he is not particularly observant, so in your situation I can just remove things over a period of time, perhaps moving one or two to a different location so he doesn't realise I'm packing them up. I tend to hold onto them out of sight for several months to be sure he hasn't realised they are gone, then I know I can safely get rid of them.

I don't generally tell anyone what I am getting rid of, but I'll be more aware now! With my sister, it was a matter of talking about all the running around I had done that day. I needed my brother's help to move the DR table, so he knew I was getting rid of it.

Two holland (roller) blinds I had listed for free on marketplace got picked up this morning, I'm so glad they're going somewhere they'll be used rather than into landfill.
I've also managed to add another couple of things to the donation bag in the last couple of days.

added two binders to the donation pile, tossed some mason jars that had broken, tossed some page protectors that were damaged and discoloured.
vacuumed and swept and mopped at the old house while DD scrubbed the bathtub.
put a book and some photos in an envelope to mail to the older kids.
tossed some duplicate photos and deleted a bunch of duplicate digital (or digitised) photos

I bought a new lightweight jacket, so my old one will go in the donate bag. I have quite a few jackets, but our Minnesota weather is so variable, I wear them all at different times.
I am also purging items off my walls as I pack. If I would not buy it today, out it goes.

mikklynn - I feel like I should purge my jacket/coats as I rarely wear them here in Florida BUT I do wear when we travel (okay not in 2 years but...) and like yours, mine are different weights for different weather from winter in Vermont to a cool summer evening on the water in New England Working on a deep-clean of my bathroom today. Went through my drawer (there are only 2 - the other is DH's and off limits) and put in some organisers and put the zippered bags of backup alcohol wipes and lancets behind them in the part of the drawer that's hard to reach. I don't need to restock my diabetic kit often and they will keep the organisers from sliding back. For an en suite, our bathroom is TINY and the drawer doesn't pull out all the way because it hits the toilet tank...there is literally 2 feet between the vanity on one side wall and the tub on the other and the toilet is on the back wall between them. I also cleaned the wall cabinet with our toiletries and have made note of what needs restocking. I tossed some expired first aid supplies, some trash, moved some lancets to my diabetuic kit, moved the lens cleaners to my handbag, and dropped a few things into the donation bin Next up are the cabinets - one under each drawer and then the undersink one...

they will keep the organisers from sliding back A tip to keep organizers from sliding - put a bit of museum putty/gel on the bottom of each organizer. Will keep them from sliding, but still easy enough to pull out for cleaning or reorganizing.

I went through all my 'collectible' items--plates, Hummels, Disney figurines, dolls. I'm getting rid of the large curio cabinet since it's style is very outdated and I want something different. The plates and dolls that I know are going for a pittance are in a box for a cancer thrift store--I can't donate until Wednesday. I made a spreadsheet of some of the other items and DS has a friend that does a lot a research and selling of items on eBay--I am going to ask if he will sell them for me for half of whatever he gets. If not, I will probably donate to the thrift store. I am keeping just 3 bins of stuff--quite a lot downsized! Also decided to finally get rid of the old everyday china and put out another set that I love for everyday. And while getting down all the boxes for the dolls and plates, found a bunch of Christmas wreaths I had stashed--donating all that, too. Can't wait for Wednesday!

With the end of the school year not too far away, I've been giving some thought to reorganizing how I store school supplies. Accessibility is key, because the thought of having to move even one tub off another to get something is way to big a PITA and is off putting. I'm thinking of mainly using Sterilite 3 drawer units (already have two).
Also need to take an inventory of sorts because I know there are some supplies I will not have to buy come this fall, due to overbuying this past summer/fall.

I'm ridiculously excited - the junk guys are coming this morning to pick up my broken-down dining room table and chairs, an old ladder, and a pile of other stuff. Whoo! Not only will it be gone, it's less to pay to move.

I was going to pick some up at Lowe's but mine doesn't stock it so I ordered it off Amazon. I've been redoing drawers in my kitchen. That rubbery shelf liner stuff in the drawers wasn't doing anything to keep organizers from sliding (especially as vigorously as my husband and son seem to shut them... why?). The museum putty is working great!

Iâm on a rollâ got all donate stuff donated this morningâyay! They wouldnât take the Pak n Play portable crib due to so many recalls on baby stuffâIâll post on marketplace for free and Iâm sure itâll go fast. I went through a lot of boxes of my boys stuff and sorted into piles for each of themâthree of them live locally so Iâm dropping off 3 big boxes to one today, 1 box to another tomorrow,, the other has 3 boxes but we will keep here as he is in a small apartment. My son in So Cal we are visiting in May, so sending pics and will bring whatever he wants to keep to him and trash the rest. That's one way to declutter! When my dad retired, they spent a year deciding where to relocate to, as well as decluttering and downsizing. For that entire year, I would receive boxes from UPS with all my old stuff in it. She said since I had a 3 car garage, I could have it all now! . Still waiting on DD to get past the 1 bedroom apartment stage. So many Breyer horses and stables, just waiting to relocate!

That's one way to declutter! Yes, it is! They all have houses bigger than mine now, with 3 car garages, so getting their stuff makes sense to me. They can keep or toss their own stuff. DH came with me to donate this morning, and now we are going through stuff in the garage and tossing/donating even more, boys pile of stuff has grown just a little. But my house, garage and shed will be looking pretty good when I finish (it'll be a while, but it is happening).

We took about half a truck load over to donate. 4 boxes of CDs. I was going through them snd then decided I havenât used them in at least 7 years snd always stream music these days. Out they go. Huge black bag from closets last weekend I think it was. Went through more stuff and purged more from our closet and other odds and ends. Seeing progress feels good. So much more needs to be done but every little bit helps. Hoping to continue making progress my goal is a bag a week.

I emptied a Rubbermaid media box - made sure all the photos were scanned and then put them into either the Iris cases by year or into page protectors in my albums by year. Tossed a few duplicates, there were a few postcards mixed in - gave two to DH, am mailing a couple of the older kids (that were sent to them when they were small)...
I'm working my way through a container of CDs/DVDs - making sure the photos are on the computer (and backed up twice) and then tossing. These were my mum's and in many cases she had already sent me a copy and/or printed copies so mostly duplicates.

Finally had a chance to get some cleaning done. All of DS papers from school the past 2 months made it to the circular file. Tossed all the Christmas and Valentines candy that was still hanging around. Also tossed an outgrown and disgusting pair of Dsâ shoes.

I cleaned my office yesterday and reorganized a bunch of stuff in it. It was such a pleasure to go in there today to work - looked clean, smelled clean, I could put my hands on what I needed, and I had room to work.
I have one little tote of stuff to donate from there this week. My goal is to add a few things from around the house before I drop it off.

I'm getting rid of some big items this week, yay!
Snowblower going to neighbor who pretty much shoveled for me all winter. He thinks he's buying it, but I plan to ask him to make a charitable donation of his choice instead.
DH's bicycle is being donated.
DH's 2 computer towers are being picked up by his former business partner today. I was going to deliver them, but who knew how freaking heavy they are?

Thanks for the museum putty tip **GypsyGirl**! I had it in my cart for a couple of frames that wonât stay straight on the wall anyway, so this is perfect. Have a big box to drop off this weekend and have already added 2 items to the new one I have started. Weâve gone through our house several times and I felt like we were in the maintenance phase of decluttering, it is taking forever to fill a box. However, we are currently helping my mom and brother with their house: clean, repair, declutter. And itâs making me want to get rid of all the things. So I think Iâll probably do a mini declutter again and be more ruthless in my purgingâŠagain. But itâs also made us want to step up our fixing/improvement projects again. We started at the beginning of COVID and got so much done but our pace has definitely slowed. Between her house and Grandadâs which we will be tackling after his will goes through probate, lots of motivation for me.

Thanks for the museum putty tip **GypsyGirl**! I had it in my cart for a couple of frames that wonât stay straight on the wall anyway, so this is perfect. I'm embarrassed to admit how many years I've dealt with shifting drawer organizers...until I read this tip a couple of months ago! Even a veteran organizer can learn new tips and tricks! Another tip I discovered this week is how to take apart those old floppy discs to get rid of them. You slide the metal part off, pop them open using something blunt then slide out a small little black film circle. Who knew it was that easy? I'm tossing all the parts and shredding the film discs. It's a good project to do while watching tv. I'd hit a lull in decluttering, but it's beginning to pick up. When I have a few minutes I try to sort a drawer or box in the guest room (aka junk room). We also emptied two safe deposits (1 large, 1 small) week before last (branch is closing). It was a holdover from expat days, so it was a bit sad to admit that part of our lives is behind us for good. The vast majority of it is old camcorder tapes and pretty much every negative from photos we took from 1977-2000. Currently looking at options for digitizing the negatives that I want to keep. Of course, that means going through them all. The updated estimate for the kitchen/old dining room project is due the end of the week (fingers crossed) so those rooms are going to have to be packed up in the next 2-3 months. All the photos/slides/negatives live in that old dining room, which means they have moved way up the list in priority now.

More stuff gone today! Donated the equivalent of two 2-gallon ziplocs of needlepoint threads and one canvas to the needlepoint guild at church. The other 10 or so canvases wouldn't work for them, nor would all the wool threads. They went straight to the donation bags - which will leave tomorrow.
Also found the wall phone (an old school reproduction) in the garage and donated that. It had been on the wall in the kitchen, but we haven't had a landline in about 6 years. It is also in the donation bags.
Yesterday I stopped by Home Depot and picked up a 2'x4' sanded plywood board. It's now sitting on top of two sawhorses as a worktable. Tomorrow I will start filling old paint cans with kitty litter. Then they will be trashed. It may take a couple of trash cycles, but it should be done this month.

Iâm trying to find a way to view the old discs that youâre trying to take apart, all without having to purchase something. I hadnât considered our library until just this second. I just canât convince myself to get rid of them without viewing whatâs on them. My organizing is much less exciting than yours last night and today. Nails & screws. Yes, you read that correctly. Weâve got tons of loose ones from over the years, and actually frequently find ourself looking for one that will work for us. Originally they were just separated by nails & screws in a plastic box each, then in a box with the others that were still packaged. No need to over organize, ya know? But I am tired of running the screws through our card over and over to find the right thread size. So I bought a few cheap containers and separated by type (wood, sheet metal, machine made, etc.) and now I am going to do by thread size, but not length, that is a lot easier to eyeball. Sounds like overkill but seriously, there have been several times just this year weâve had to check the thread size and itâs always after weâve gone through 50 of them. Iâll set myself up in my project room with a cheesy old movie and get to work. Last night was Man in the Iron Mask and I, Robot Nothing new made it to the donation box today, but several things made the trash/recycling. And old Kindle I just canât get to charge or past a certain screen, itâs case, and a couple things of DH. And he I s going through his baseball cards so yay. Iâve also gone as far as I can in trying to retrieve photos from a few old phones. Ive made notes, and need to do the same with a few more, but then Iâll go move into the Sprint store and see what they can do to help. Itâs small piddly stuff, but getting them done feels so dang good! Oh, and we âdesignedâ his poster size shadow box with a history of his starting to run as a child with his Grandpa through to his first marathon in NYC when his Grandpa came to watch. Very cool. They used to wear shirts that said âJohnnyâ and âJohnnyâs Grandpaâ and ran in a lot of local DFW races. His Grandpa ran into someone at the Boston Marathon who came up to him and asked âarenât you Johnnyâs Grandpa?â Anyway, itâs got some great things in there and I canât wait for it to be finished. Not just because itâs been sitting there since we moved into our home almost 13 years ago, but because he will get such enjoyment out of it once itâs hanging in his room. I made the one with his signed Terry Bradshaw jersey when we moved in, but itâs so heavy we have never been able to successfully hang it. So weâll find out about that as well. About dang time!
