Whether you papercraft at home, a LSS, weekend crops/retreats, or elsewhere, what items occupy the prime real estate on your work surface?
Considering its size, do you prefer relatively few items on your work surface/more area to scrap OR many items within reach/less space to scrap?

I have a very, very small room. It’s more like a glorified closet. I have two small desks and kind of a nightstand shaped into a U. And a book shelf and a cabinet with lots of mini drawers. I can basically teach everything while sitting which is perfect. I usually have a mess - I like to see stuff out to remember to use it.

My desk is 30"x15" and is also where I store all of my paper (upright, in a magazine holder & one 12x12 paper holder, plus the pads upright).
I have less than a foot of paper, to leave me room to work.
My desk also always holds my tape dispenser and an oversized cup that holds my pens, Sharpies, scissors, bone folder, etc.

I have a lot of storage space and a lot of stuff. My work area is two Ikea table tops put together to make a deeper (not longer) work space. I keep a carousal of tools (pens, pencils, ruler, scissors, stapler, tweezers) A few most commonly used ink pads - black, brown, grey. A serving tray to hold projects I'm bouncing between. My cameo, but that is because I don't have a better spot to put it for now.

I have a lamp, a bowl full of roller stamps, a black ink pad since that's the color I use most, a large paper trimmer, and a jar of markers/pens. Everything else is in drawers.
I used to keep a big mess out but we have a cat now and I had to put a stop to that if I didn't want little teeth marks in everything.

I have a lamp on each end of my desk, my trimmer, and cups with pens, scissors, rulers, and glue pens. I like those things handy. Oh, and my Tombow adhesive dispenser that I am constantly searching for on my desk.

My current tables isn't huge.
Items always on my desk: 2 Ott light Paper trimmer ATG Ink pad towers (2) with my most used inks My stamp shammy cleaner in a jar Creative memories pen storage cup Bucket of other frequently used adhesives
When my space moves upstairs in a few weeks and I am in the family room, I think I will *try* to keep my desk quite clear. I may not need the Ott lights, or maybe just 1, my space has 6 LED can lights (I think you could see me from space). I will also have storage under my new workspace with 3 drawers, a cabinet, and open shelving on the sides. So, in theory, plenty of places to put the stuff that lives on my desk-except the ink towers. Not sure what to do with those...

No matter how much real estate I start with, I wind up with just enough space on the work surface for one sheet of 12x12 pp. When I set up my table at a crop, I start with my cutting mat right in front of my chair, with the trimmer to the left of it. To the right are my tools in a tray I pull out of the drawer it lives in at home. My work space will be plenty large enough for a two page spread. Directly behind the trimmer are my inks and wet media. Behind my mat I place a stadium with papers and diecuts and stickers and things I plan to be using for whatever themes I will be scrapping. Past that are my dies and stamps and stencils and "what if?" materials. But once I start scrapping, the tools I use get piled up with the off cuts and packages I have opened in search of something. In the end I am down to a 12x12" workspace again in the middle of piles of stuff

I keep my tool “box” (a hard plastic pencil case) on my desk, which holds adhesive, scissors, stamp blocks, a few most-used inks, bone folder, tweezers, pens, pencil, adhesive eraser/pick-up square, post-it pad, eraser, edge distresser.
I also have my TT Ditto bag with my most-used punches, roller date stamps, mists, twine, tiny attacher, paper piercer, craft knife, brushes, washi, and tags.
I keep my trimmer at the end of my desk. I have a letter organizer full of stamps (mostly alphas). I also have a bottle of Un-du. And it wouldn’t be complete without some hand cream and blistex. 😉

my 'desk' is a 6ft folding table. I clean up either between layouts or at the end of a session (if I'm doing a trip or DD album where I'm using the same supplies over and over).
I have my Cricut to my left, my three cubes of paper and cardstock (with drawers and scraps envelopes on top) at the centre back. A desk lamp to the right - and right now my tablet/stand for online cropping.
the workspace has my trimmer, my box of photo squares and my next photo/s/ to be scrapped.
edit - I have drawers on the left of the table and a small bookcase to the right (forming a small U) and ALL my scrapbook supplies are within reach while sitting at my desk. I onl;y have to get up to print or to run SCAL (for the Cricut).

I use a very large dining table for my crafting. It is full! LOL! I like to have things with in reach while I am crafting and keep quite a bit near by. I don't want to have to get up all the time. In front of me is my work space. I have my WeR magnetic self healing mat there. It's an older one that is pink and measures something like 14 x 20. To my left is my Big Shot. Left front is my lamp. Directly in front of me is a cup with pens, pencils, markers. I keep my tape runner and scor tape, and misc. things (like enamel dots, twine, etc) I may be using right in front of me also. Right front I have 3 little baskets for regularly used things. 1 holds my scissors, pick, craft knife, tweezer, and adhesive eraser. 2 holds most of my liquid glue bottles. 3 holds wink of stella pens, a couple little stickers books, and some misc. Directly to my right are my paper trimmers. That is all within reach. Also on my table are my holders of Nuvo drops, holder of Stickles, a basket with additional misc. adhesive, a basket with larger tools (files, hole punch, sanding tool, etc), and 2 totes of letter stickers and thickers. At any given time, there may be additional stuff stacked in where ever! LOL! But, this is how I try to keep it for the most part.

I have a 5' x 3' trestle table that's topped with a custom cut piece of glass. I try to keep it as empty as I can so I've got enough room to work. However, I do keep a few things on top all the time. In one corner I've got a 3 tier stadium-type organizer that holds a load of stuff: scissors, adhesives, corner rounders, rulers, miscellaneous tools, card fronts, envelopes. All the basics fit and don't take up too much real estate on the table. A small Ott lite right sits right behind it and can easily be moved wherever I need it. Last is a cup of pens.
Fortunately, this table has two shelves on each side between the legs and I can fit more stuff there and keep it off the top of the table. One shelf has my trimmer. Below that are a couple of boxes that hold in-process projects. The other side has markers and colored pencils on the top shelf and a basket with more supplies on the bottom. It's taken me a lot of trial and error to get this together, but getting that stadium organizer was a key to making it work.

In truth, I always have my spellbinders stamping/cutting mat thing, my trimmer, my lamps. Everything else (hypothetically) has a home off my desk.

No matter how much room I give myself I always end up with a little more than a 12X12 spot. To my right is my cutterpillar crop trimmer, ATG, a Luna Lovegood mug with brushes/scrapers and a nail polish rack filled with my distress oxide sprays. On my left is a smallish tiered organizer with scissors, pens, pencils, tweezers and other common tools, my small bowl for my "bashket" and my two small sterilite 3 drawer organizers for rainbow die cuts. oh and my huge lamp that is attached

An Ott light that clips to the side, my Epson PM printer, a small note book and my Copic markers.
I used to keep my most used tools in a caddy on my desk but recently moved them into a couple Alex drawers that sits under my desktop.

I currently have a long and narrow desk so whatever I have on it has to be fairly slimline. I do have a lot on the desk, ink pad storage, plastic photo containers with my most used diecuts, a box that holds all of my sticker books, another with glues and adhesives and hole punches/corner rounder and another with my pens and scissors. I would actually prefer to have nothing or just the adhesives and pens but I just don't have a storage solution that makes them easy to reach and close by.
In a perfect world and hopefully in the not so distant future I will have a bit of a room redo and I will get a chest or draws to use as a standing desk and have all of those things in the top draw that I can access whenever I need to use them.

Since my craft room was just moved, I can say that it is neat! I found a large lazy Susan at Hobby Lobby that was 75% off. Love that I can spin it now to get to all the sides of my tote. I also found an ATG holder that makes it easier to use my gun without taking up so much real estate on my desk. IMG_5740 by Nancy Tim, on Flickr Desk View by Nancy Tim, on Flickr

I have a small vintage desk and I'm a messy piler when I craft. I have a table lamp, 3 jars with pens and tools, and an old Martha Stewart desk organizer that holds adhesives, stamp platforms, score board, and acrylic blocks. Everything else is in my drawers or on my Costkog cart next to me. I have another table behind me where I put more piles when I'm trying to clear off my desk but my space is usually covered in half-finished cards and pieces I'm planning to use. I try to only have my die cutting machine and trimmer on the desk when I'm actively using them but I often find myself making cards on the awkward 5" width of my trimmer.

Thanks for sharing your neatly organized space. Do you have a link for the black 3-drawer cube shown to the right of your tv screen on top of the 2x4 cubby bookcase? TIA.

We have a pop up store called Rush Market (only in 2 cities-so they say) and the other one is Omaha. When you find something, you grab it. I rarely pop in the store and just happened to try it a few months ago.

Count me in the team of messy crafters who only ends up with a 12x12 hole of space in the middle to work on a layout. It does not matter where I am crafting, the mess will expand to cover every inch of horizontal workspace I have.
Right now I am working at a small roll top desk, and when I am not scrapbooking, I have my tote on the floor beside my desk (this needs to change (my tote needs a reorganization, and I should try actually putting things IN the desk drawers). The rest of my desk surface is covered in packaging, paper scraps, extra photos, and some layouts that need to be put in an album.
While I am working, my trimmer stays on the floor leaned up against my desk and I reach down and grab it whenever I need it. This is how I have always scrapped, no matter how much space I have and is a very strange habit, but I have had no luck actually keeping my trimmer on the desk.
