Ahhhh -- Basic Grey! I love Basic Grey -- Sublime and Motifica -- and their collaboration with Kay& Co which resulted in EMBOSSED Sublime paper and layered stickers. SIGHHHHHH! I started going "off" Basic grey when a lot of you apparently really started liking them -- the brighter collections didn't move me as much as the first collections. Then - they also distributed card kits and they were wonderful! Very fun, various sized, clever use of product AND packaging. I very much miss Basic Grey and I think that most current lines are too "themed" -- even if the theme is merely "floral" or "pink" -- and I don't care for "cut apart cards"! I have a lot of really old (like Sublime) BG that I don't know what to do with -- I think they are cool looking but too distressed for what my style is now.

I haven't looked at Sublime/Motifica in a while - but as I recall, most of the "distress" is on the outer edges. If you just move in a bit, I always thought you'd lose most of the distressing! I'm with you - distress was never my favorite - but it never hindered my love of Sublime and Motifica!

I also really miss them, and have found in the last couple of years that I've wished I bought lines that I passed over at the time. While not all of their colour combos were my thing I loved how varied they were yet still always true to aesthetic. I've been lucky enough to pick up some pieces from a couple of online stores here that had some stuff left in their store, and a couple of collection kits from other crafters destashing and I still love using it. I haven't looked at Sublime/Motifica in a while - but as I recall, most of the "distress" is on the outer edges. If you just move in a bit, I always thought you'd lose most of the distressing! I love these really old lines with my travel pages, particularly photos of castles/other old buildings that are various shades of brown. And I've definitely cut the edges off to get a less distressed part of the pattern which makes them feel a lot less dark and dingy.

I actually think I would like BG more now than I did back in the day... Per my modus operandi, I bought individual sheets of BG that I liked & would use...eventually. I certainly incorporate BG into my layouts more recently (during our son's teen & college years) than during its debut & heyday (when he was a toddler)! I often trim at least 0.5" off each side of BG patterned papers (to remove the pre-distressed edges) & mount on cardstock.

I miss Basic Grey, Chatterbox and Wild Asparagus/MME papers as well. They were always my favorites. I like some themed sets with all of the accessories and such, but the older my kids get the less those fit the pictures that I have.

I just used Bittersweet today for some Valentine's cards. I have the 6x6 pad, and ran out of the creme distressed paper, and looked in my 12x12 stack, and bam! I had the entire collection in that size too...
I recall back in the day I would buy the entire collection, with both 12x12 paper and 6x6 pads. I liked the 6x6 pads because they were patterns in smaller dimension, not just a 12x12 cut into 4 pieces. Works better for cards.

I don’t think our local store had many of the 6x6 pads, but I bought way too much of some of the lines. I have some that I have used quite a bit of times already but still have a lot left. I definitely don’t do that anymore.

I am a huge Basic Grey fan and hoarder. My favorite lines were Indian summer, Out of Print, Eerie, Basics, Marrakech, Jovial, and Capture. I did purchase the digital Out of Print as it is my top favorite. I also loved all to the embellishments that went along with each collection.

I just used some Hey Boy on a Sketchy Saturday layout. The subtle patterns matched up well with an Echo Park fall line.

I still have a few pieces of Carte Postale and Blitzen. I've been using Carte Postale for my 2005 Europe trip and it (along with Little Yellow Bicycle) are perfect for it. I love looking through my old albums and seeing all the Basic Grey, it was my absolute favorite and I was so sad when they stopped making scrappy stuff.

I LOVED Basic Grey and miss them! I especially LOVED Archaic and made tons of cards for my boys over the years. I ended up downloading the digital version of Archaic when I heard that BG were moving into fabrics instead. I loved how they had sticker sheets and the matching buttons and brads so I think they were unique at the time. I also loved Lemonade and their Christmas ranges especially Wassail and Juniper Berry.

I really miss Basic Grey. My favourite range was Archaic and I ended up downloading the digital version as I knew I would use it & it just doesn't 'date'. I used it a ton to make cards for boys over the years. I also loved Wassail and Juniper Berry and Lemonade. I wish I had bought more of the Wassail because I am hoarding the last little bits of it. I love how they had matching buttons and brads and their sticker sheet & thought they were unique at the time. Yep, I LOVE Basic Grey!!

I like the idea of using these lines with travel photos of old buildings! I am trying to dip into some of these distressed lines, so I will definitely audition them with some travel photos. Another friend of mine also suggested that the distressing would look at home with camping/outdoor photos.

I miss the good old days when there were distinct looks and feels to each company and not everything was pink. Does anyone remember how bold and graphic AC used to be back in the day? I worked at an LSS in 2005-06 and we had SO MUCH of that AC graphic paper! I made so many display layouts with that stuff to try and sell it. Lol. I haven't scrapped in six or seven years but am wanting to get back into it this year. I browsed a few sites and although I did find some things I liked and bought, it was also a feeling of, "This? Still?" I really would have thought there'd be some new styles of papers and patterns after all this time.

I feel like they were in a category all their own. I loved the designs, the weight of the paper, everything. IMO, Echo Park seems to just recycle patterns, they all look the same.

I remember the excitement over the appearance of a new line. I bought and used a lot of their papers from many different lines. I loved Blush! Out of Print was probably my favorite, and I bought every 12 X 12 I could find, plus the 6X6 paper pad. I still have several sheets of their Basics Manila paper pack full of ledger papers on a cream and brown base. I'm going to make a point of using some of it this weekend!
I enjoy reminiscing about these old but still usable papers!

If any of you have a friend in the UK the following shop still has a number of papers for sale from the lines you ladies have mentioned above… also some ephemera: www.charmedcardsandcrafts.co.ukThere is a full collection set at the following Australian store of oh baby and motifica: www.itsandbitscraftssupplies.com.auAnd lastly this store again in australia has a heap of basic grey, mostly ephemera but there is a 6x6 pad of Fiction and heaps of other papers in sets of 10 as well (and the site says they ship to the USA. I buy from them all the time in australia and t he y are great/have had no problems): www.craftonline.com.auNot enabling just trying to get supplies to people who want them as I know what it’s like to scour the world looking for something!

I love BG too and still have 6 or 7 collection packs. It's all on a shelf with some SEI collections. The 3 collections I did manage to use a lot of were Black Tie, Basics and Romani( Gypsy).
I never used some of my collections because I didn't know what to do with it. I just bought because it was pretty. Now that I've learned more mixed media techniques and fussy cutting I think its time to pull it out and use it!

I just bought a 6x6 BG paper pack on Amazon for fun. I don’t remember the line and some of the papers in it aren’t my jam and there are some birdhouses lol but it will be fun to use anyway since I love the love combo (aqua/light blue, red, yellow, black).
I loved Bg back in the day and it will be fun to work with it again.

Since I’m newer to the hobby, I’ve never used basic grey or heard of them outside of this thread. But now that I hauled a decent amount of BG, I’m gonna try to use it! The two lines I’m keeping that I hauled are Cappella and Wisteria.

Urban Couture was what got me into scrapbooking. I saw pictures of the collection in a catalog at the shop I worked in and thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. I convinced the shop owner to get some when she went to the buying show even though she'd always been dead set against carrying BG since it was "too expensive" to fit into her pricing categories for paper.
Aside from Urban Couture I loved Marrakech and bought a ton of it. Indian Summer was also a favorite and I still have some that no photo has ever been good enough to use it for. I loved Eerie and Bittersweet and Sultry and Ambrosia. I still have some Ambrosia, Lime Ricky and a pastel floral line I just can't remember the name of right now. I've actually been considering purging my BG because I never use it and it just takes up space and I know someone else out there would love to use it up.
