I am thinking of doing OLW next year. If I were to buy the main kit (on sale- I have a coupon or wait to see if it goes on sale) would kits be generic enough to use for any year’s class (if I bought next year’s class) or does it just depend? I like B&w and also a sale lol which is why I’m wondering. Maybe I’ll just wait and see what is offered for the new kit. Are you peas that are currently doing the class planning to do again next year?

Typically the main kit is black & white, with the mini kits bringing the color in. I will do the class next year. I am already looking for my word. Even though I haven't crafted all of my album yet, I have done tremendous thinking and searching this year with my word. Edited to add: Im pretty sure you can't use a coupon (like with DD, WITL, etc) on the kits.

Oh good to know the main kit is always black and white! In that case I’ll probably wait and see which I prefer. Interestingly, my coupon says it is good for DD, WITL, and OLW! Although I couldn’t use it for my dd box, but I guess it would apply to anything left in the store once it switches over.
OLW seems like a project I will be ready for at the start of the new year so I’ll be thinking of my word, too. Thanks!

Is anyone still holding on thru September for OLW? Me and my word "Open" were doing great until September. I just came up flat with the "light" concept. I received my 4th quarter OLW kit and looks like it will be great to use in December to sum everything up. I am like you. I was doing great until the "light" prompt. Not sure how to tie it into my word, "strong". Was thinking of maybe turning the theme into the "light" of my life, the reasons I want to be strong. I don't know yet.

I'm behind with my documenting, but I don't feel too bad about it. I am finding other ways of bringing Magic into my life. Although I took the easy way out with the "Small Wins" prompt by using Felicitas's pre-made background back in July, I'm proud that I'm currently working on a mixed media project on a 20" X 20" canvas that's separate from OLW. I'm grateful to the class for introducing me to some techniques for self-expression. I think I will just barely touch the August prompt. I see it more as a breather. I want to spend some time with the September prompt since I'm interested in the concept of looking for the light. paget, I did use a coupon for this year's class. I had convinced myself to just repeat the older classes, but I had a 20% survey coupon that I was able to use on the class. I didn't buy any products, but the class comes with all of the digitals.

I am caught up through July now. For August, I am skipping what the want us to do and instead, writing out all the things about my sons suicide attempt that happened at the end of July. He was still hospitalized in August, so thats my justification for using it in that Month. I think it could be healing to just dump it all out, in written form. So thats where I am. Haven't looked at September or October yet, but Im getting there.

mom I'm so sorry to hear about your son. I hope he's getting help and that you are getting support too. That must be so scary, especially with grown kids. Hopefully writing it out and having spot for it in your album will help you process.

I hope you are doing well too.

Hi all. As I mentioned before, I’m interested in doing OLW next year. I’m curious why this thread doesn’t seem to get as much traction as some other project threads. Are there not too many people doing it here? Is it because it’s a more personal topic and people don’t want to share as much? Does it start to kind of feel like “homework” as the year goes on and so people taper off working on it? Lol Just curious. If you join are there other forums to discuss the project?

Ha, I dont know why this thread doesn't get more responses. I assume its because OLW is pretty personal for most people. Ali has a message board and private FB group as well..so people can post there as well. I have already found my word for next year, so I am going to participate again.

I've definitely fallen off this year, so I don't have a ton to contribute, but this week I managed to print out the 2 layouts I did that were fully digital (March & May). I am really surprised by how much I like them now that they are printed. It's making me want to do a few more to "catch-up". I typically just include my OLW layouts in my regular PL albums so it's not as obvious when I miss a month (or 3).
Next year, I'm thinking of doing a seporate album. Maybe that will encourage me to stick with it throughout the year.

I have been Incorporating week in the life and October daily and day in the life in my regular PL albums but planned a separate album for OLW- never occurred to me to include that. I guess I just was thinking it would be more private and wouldn’t want anyone that might see the regular album to see that. Do you keep up with the classroom content even if you don’t make the pages or do they go hand in hand for you?

paget I'd love to say I was keeping up with the classroom content, but it's been really hit or miss for me. A few I've done the writing but not made the layouts (yet, I hope). A few I haven't even managed to watch. For example, I haven't done the interview for this month, but I've read the questions. I also don't see myself having someone interview me. Agree it is a really personal project. DH would do it, he's a good sport, but especially since I have a lot of "feelings" around my word home, I'd rather write it out alone where I have time to think things through. My favorite Joan Didion quote is spot on for me: “I write to know what I think.” One of my favorite parts of having a word every year is it helps give me a lens to dig a little deeper into what my life is currently and my thoughts and feelings. I love the typical currently stuff like favorite movies and the like, but OLW gives me a chance to make time to document the deeper thoughts/feelings. I think that's why I keep coming back to this project year after year. Even if I don't do all the prompts, I'm always happy with what I did complete. Love that you are doing OD as part of your PL! I wouldn't have thought of that. The OD thread really makes me want to do OD next year when the baby is bigger and hopefully we have some sort of a life again that includes leaving the house, haha.

And it picks up during the months ahead of January when we are all thinking about our new word, etc and I enjoy that conversation here, but it’s not super product driven or sharing driven content which makes it unique.

Thank you scrappyem for your thoughts and experience! It seems like sometimes there might be a project or prompt that doesn’t resonate with me but I could still be reflecting or do some other project and even if I didn’t, I can still be thinking of my word and moving along/making progress in that way. Glad to hear you think it’s worthwhile even if you don’t always complete (or complete timely).

I did nothing for September. Krystal's October prompts are not resonating with me. MY OLW is pretty private, and right now I don't feel like interviewing myself. I did revert back to OLW October 2021 class-and that I believe will be my October 22 lesson.

paget You can absolutely make it your own, maybe more so than some other class based projects since it is so personal. For the daily habit prompt (which I think was May this year, historically it has been in Feb), I jotted down daily notes for everyday in May as my habit, but I made a completely different layout for May documenting my feelings around "home" at that time. I pulled a few of my favorite photos from that month and used a digital templet that had plenty of journaling space. I did pull some of my journaling from those daily notes but I did what I felt like for my album, so for me, even if I might do the prompt, or part of the prompt, if I want to document something else for the album, that's what I do. There's some really creative folks in the FB group, who do really lovely work. Occasionally there are some examples there of folks who do something a little different but folks mostly follow the prompts as far as I can tell. Agree with Texas Scrap that most activity happens in December and then the first quarter of year. I kind of wish it would stay more active throughout the year but get why it doesn't. Love that we have the Peas check-in here.

I’ll probably be asking for some other prompt ideas from previous years if something doesn’t resonate since I won’t have prior years to fall back to.

I'm working on the September photography prompt. I've done all of the other prompts, but I may skip October's. The OLW process is so personal that I really can't see having an interview with anyone about how I'm doing with my word. It's a shame because otherwise I love Krystal's work. She has sent out some Monday emails that offer alternatives to the interview, so I'll take a look once I'm done with the photographs. I think this is a project that can be meaningful even if you don't finish each part. I've had a word each year since 2014, and it has colored how I think and feel about my life. kimba, thanks for the reminder about the Oct. 2021 prompt. It was one of my favorites, and I wouldn't mind making another affirmation booklet this year. mom, I hope things are looking up for your son. It's so difficult to watch our children suffer. I hope you are taking care of yourself as well.

I am definitely doing something different for October. The interview is not for me. Might do another picture one or write a letter to myself. Or I might get out one of the zillion OLW stamp sets I have and look for some prompts.

I was happy to see Ali is the instructor for November. I listened to most of her videos, she really knows how to present the concept. Not to dis the other ladies, they just have different styles. Listened to her on my drive home, I came home and went thru a bunch of words/phrases ephemera, but just tucked it into a folder to let the lesson percolate for another day.
I have an idea to add to my Dec OLW Wrap up. I'm going to grade my months. 6 months on each layout, 2 layouts, make a little picture frame for each month and rate them. And do some journaling which backs up my reasoning. Because, overall (SO FAR) I have had a good year. But some months, such as May and October, weren't that great. I think it would be good to look back on in my OLW book.

I did an “October Wins” for last month with pictures and flip up tags to highlight some good stuff from October.
I love the prompt for November. I’m at a retreat this weekend so I’m going to complete this prompt and be all caught up. I’ll be glad when I’m done.
