Yeah, let’s ignore the fact that one of these guys is fighting for voting rights for all (in real life, not just on paper) and the other one is explaining why he’s against protecting those voting rights. I thought racist comments was the topic of this thread. Nice red herring though. Be best.

lucyg: The quote "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." was Biden referring to Obama "https://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/31/biden.obama/" For some reason link is not working for me so I included it in the event anyone wishes to copy and paste it. I actually just responded to you on this very topic in the other thread.

I'm sure y'all will slam me for replying but I am not understanding this the same way a lot of you are. Granted, McConnell could have used better wording to make his point but this is what I get from his statement: If 80% of the student population of a school is voting - you have 160 of the 200 students voting. If there are 90 boys in the school and 72 of them are voting, then boys are voting in just as high a percentage as the school population...80%. Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong but it's how I see it. He has been in the Senate FOR EVER. He knows how this would be interpreted. Also, it's not true that POC vote at the same rate (votes cast/registered voters) as white Americans.

What I meant to say..., check. Add a layer of lies and confusion to deflect from the initial dog whistle, check. Watch people debate on what he said vs what he meant and it's all awash and we move onto something else. Hands are clean, check.

It sounds like he is loosely comparing the ratio of registered black voters and subsequent black votes to the same ratio for the overall voting population. Such as 100 black registered voters and 70 black votes compared to 1000 total registered voters and 700 votes. I didn't hear the racism. Of course you didn’t. Bless your heart. Take the entire statement he made. His first sentence was to diminish the real ongoing happenings of voter suppression—it is a FACT that voting areas that are predominantly black and Hispanic are being shuttered. McConnell dismissed their valid, factual concerns by stating that their “concerns were misplaced” he doesn’t give a fuck about black or Hispanic voters. He is part of the plan to eradicate their votes—one only has to look at what the man himself says and posts on social media—HIM, not news reporters slanting what he says.

Notice how these new seemingly conservative Alt ID/trolls only come out of the woodwork to defend racist speech by one of their own?
Otherwise, they pretty much contribute nothing to the conversation/board.
But golly gee…they cannot pass up a post in which their kind is being called out for making racist statements.

Here’s another for the conservatives defending McConnell.
This time Boebert-
Rep. Lauren Boebert Asked A Group Of Jewish Capitol Visitors If They Were Doing "Reconnaissance" BuzzFeed News Reporter Rep. Lauren Boebert on the House steps of the US Capitol after a vote on Sept. 24, 2021. Rep. Lauren Boebert left a group of Jewish visitors to the Capitol bewildered Thursday morning when she asked them if they were doing "reconnaissance" after seeing them at an elevator at the Capitol. Members of the group, which was meeting with Rep. Tom Suozzi, were wearing yarmulkes, and the person coordinating the group is Orthodox, with a traditional beard. One witness said the group, along with other members of Congress, was waiting for an elevator. When the doors opened, Boebert stepped out of the elevator and looked the group of visitors “from head to toe,” the witness said. Boebert then asked if they were there to conduct “reconnaissance.” “When I heard that, I actually turned to the person standing next to me and asked, ‘Did you just hear that?’” a rabbi who was with the group told BuzzFeed News. “You know, I’m not sure to be offended or not,” the rabbi said. “I was very confused.” The rabbi added that “people are very sensitive” now, especially after what happened in Texas this past weekend, when an armed man held four people hostage at a synagogue. Boebert told BuzzFeed News that she was referencing the many comments that have been directed at her from Democrats about Capitol tours prior to the Jan. 6 attack, adding that some people present “got it.”
“I saw a large group and made a joke. Sadly when Democrats see the same they demonize my family for a year straight,” she said in a text. “I’m too short to see anyone’s yarmulkes,” she added. Suozzi brought the group to the US Capitol to commemorate the 41st anniversary of the end of the Iran hostage crisis. Members of the group have been backing Suozzi’s efforts to recognize the hostages with a Congressional Gold Medal. "The bottom line is that everyone, especially members of Congress, have to be very, very thoughtful in the language they use,” Suozzi said in a statement about the incident. “Because when you're a member of Congress, you have an important role to play in society. You can't be cavalier in the comments you make especially if they could be perceived as being antisemitic, or discriminatory." Boebert has repeatedly come under criticism from Democrats and others for her comments in the year she’s been in office. In November, anti-Muslim remarks she directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar led to a flurry of debate among House Democrats over whether or not to formally reprimand her. She has, at the same time, grown in influence in the right wing of her party. Boebert was tapped as the communications chair of the House Freedom Caucus. In her announcement, she said she’ll “work diligently to make sure the caucus’s message, and the powerful messages of each member, are delivered to the American people.”

For ppl who really don’t see the problem (and aren’t just trolling), the history and context is important. American =White is what this country was built on. Racial restrictions on who could get citizenship weren’t fully removed until 1965. People were literally appealing to courts to be deemed white, so they could naturalize.
If American=White it’s why the default is white and the needs of other groups are ignored or demeaned. From important things like voting rights to programs that advantage white people and see them as the default to things like lack of cosmetics and haircare. I’m old enough to remember when nude shoes meant the color tan and my dark skin friends just found shades of foundation that match them this year.
Add all of that to the fact they McConnell is literally fighting to limit voting of Black and Hispanic people among others is just too much.

Are you calling out McConnell for his statements? I can't tell from your post, that's a pretty vague or generalized statement to make. Love the hypocrisy of conservatives who complain when liberals mention anything about Trump. But on a thread about McConnell, it's OK for conservatives to drag up a 15 year old quote about Biden. I said it before and will say it again - it wasn't OK for Biden to say that about Obama. However, he did apologize and clearly Obama forgave him because he picked Biden as VP www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna16911044"This is a guy who's come along in a way that's captured the imagination of the country in a way that no one else has. That was the point of everything I was saying," Biden said.Biden released a statement saying, "I deeply regret any offense my remark in the New York Observer might have caused anyone. That was not my intent and I expressed that to Sen. Obama."Still waiting for an apology or retraction from McConnell

Being “American” to republicans is reserved for those who think like them and support their ideals.
McConnell has done everything that he can to suppress votes, disallow legislation protecting voting.

Shallow of you then in your little conservative bubble. McConnell himself said he’d do anything to obstruct President Obama. McConnell is actively suppressing voting. Funny how it’s really the republican/conservatives hunkered down in their echo chambers. Read the room, tear your eyes away from Fox, peek out from that echo chamber, look to see what black peoples are saying about McConnell’s words, then tell them that you don’t see the racism—I dare you.

And the rumor was referring to the election, not to Biden’s ability as the president. And we all know exactly who f%cked up the election. Hint - it wasn’t President Biden. He won the election. Both President Obama and Michelle Obama endorsed Biden and campaigned for him
