Yes I have a roll of wax paper in my kitchen drawer, but I have no idea why, because I rarely use it. I used it a few months ago when I unexpectedly ran out of cling wrap. I felt like I was back in the 70s! I also sometimes use it to pound out chicken when I'm not in the mood to fight with the plastic wrap. Yes, that's the only other time I use it, although I usually use baking paper. I should start using the wax paper for pounding every time, otherwise the same roll will still be in the drawer when my kids are cleaning out my house when I'm dead!

I use it here and there, but mostly I use the press-n-seal stuff, which to me is a hybrid of wax paper and cling wrap.

I use it quite a bit. In fact, I'm out right now, so I just added it to this week's grocery list. It's great for putting underneath baking racks, separating hamburger patties, and for wrapping tomato paste blobs (I buy the tubes and freeze by the tablespoon).
I use it on the counter quite a lot-- it's a great place to form patties, grating cheese, or do anything somewhat messy. I still wipe the counters when I'm done, but it's so helpful in terms of containing things. There's probably more.

I use it a bit, especially at Christmas. But the other months I do wrap sandwiches, portion out salmon patties and for oatmeal no-bake cookies.

I have never bought or used wax paper. I also don’t use parchment paper, plastic wrap, or ziplock bags. We try to stay away from single use items. Those all seem very unnecessary to me. If you make cookies and wrap the dough to rest in the refrigerator what do you use? Did your grandmothers bake? I agree with others that I have waxed paper for nostalgia reasons, because my mom and grandparents used it but I have probably only bought one or two rolls in my life. I like to use it to wrap dough but sometimes I will use beeswax wrap if I have a big enough sheet. I don’t think wrapping in a tea towel has the same result.

I keep a roll with my craft supplies. I use wax paper when I am mod podging scrapbook paper together (back to back), for my homemade mixed media-scrapbook style journal. If there's accidental oozing around the edges, the paper doesn't stick to the wax paper (it can be peeled off). I haven't used wax paper in the kitchen, for years, decades. I remember watching my Grandmother, making my Grandfathers work lunch. A PB&J sandwich wrapped with wax paper, secured with scotch tape. Cookies wrapped in wax paper, secured with scotch tape. A piece of fruit. He would peel the scotch tape off and bring the wax paper home in his lunch box, so it could be re-used again. A thermos with coffee. I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but I remember my Grandfathers lunch.

I use mine frequently. Like when I'm dredging something with flour and stuff like that.

I have some but rarely use it. It comes in handy if I’m making something dipped in chocolate maybe. I used to use a lot of parchment when I bake but now I mostly use silpats or perforated silpats for cookies.
I still use parchment to line cake pans, I would never use waxed paper for that because wouldn’t the wax melt in the pan? I like putting a piece of parchment under a frozen pizza when I cook it in the oven so stuff won’t drop through the rack and burn on the bottom of the oven.
I *LOVE* the non stick aluminum foil and use that a lot. I also use Press N Seal when I have something I need to store in a container that I don’t have a cover for.
I have one of those reusable plastic covers for reheating stuff in the microwave.

I use it to line the tops of my kitchen cabinets. It folds easily to fit the width and corners.
Every year or so when I clean the top shelf, all the dust, grime, and ick gets wadded up and thrown out!

My current cabinets reach the ceiling, but I did this for years when they didn’t.

idahomom wow, that's beautiful! That's a fun craft project to do. Is that a coaster? Loving all these ideas and the memories everyone is sharing! I'm going to start using the wax paper in the microwave, I never thought of that! I buy those super thin paper plates, the very cheap ones and I use those for almost everything. They make great funnels, for flouring meats and chicken (I still use a shallow bowl for the egg dip). I use them in the microwave to cover food. I just split them down to a single plate so a small package lasts me a while. That plus we use them for eating things like quesadillas/sandwiches off and desserts. What a fun thread!

It's a thin 5" wood round that I have a batch of for another project. With the right sealer on it though I likely will make coasters.

I don't think I've used waxed paper since the long-ago days when dd and I would iron pretty fall leaves between two pieces of it. And she's 26 now. I probably still have that roll though, down in the basement on that metal shelf where everything accumulates. That room is due for a major cleanup so I'll probably find it then. haha

Well, I could not find any at Walmart last month and had to get it at Target. And funny, but the young clerk at Walmart did not even know what wax paper was! 😆

I use wax paper to line a sheet to flash freeze chicken breasts, so they don't freeze to the pan. I use it to cover bowls of yeasted dough as they rise. I use it line a tray when I am frosting drippy cookies. I use it in between layers of cookies in tins when I give them as gifts.

When I buy those big, bulked up on steroids, chicken breasts, I use wax paper under and on top of them then beat them into tenderness so that they're way thinner and tender. I don't bake them until I do that.
I also use it if I freeze hamburger patties, I wrap each one in wax paper so that you can pull them out individually.

I use wax paper to put between cookies or bars when I'm adding them to a container. I also use it between hamburger patties if I'm pre-making some for the freezer. I like to make some up and freeze them in quantities of 4 for our family when we purchase a side of beef.

Do you keep a roll of wax paper in the kitchen? If so, what do you use it for? yes, I do. I have a couple rolls for crafting (my preferred surface to use for gluing things) but I also keep a roll of waxed paper in the kitchen. I use it primarily for lightly covering something in the microwave if I don't have a lid for the container-- I'd rather use waxed paper for that task than plastic wrap. I also sometimes do still use waxed paper for wrapping up a sandwich or something of that nature... we use sooo many zipper bags, I sometimes like to NOT use one, IYKWIM. LOL. Or sometimes if I have multiple layers of cookies, etc. in a storage container and I don't want them to stick together. Or if I have like, one piece of meat to freeze and I don't want to get out my vacuum sealer, I'll wrap it waxed paper and then stick it into a zipper bag. When I wrap things in waxed paper, I use a piece of tape to hold it shut. And I'm particular about my waxed paper! The store brand just does NOT work the same as the Cut-Rite brand. LOL. (it's not as 'waxy' in my opinion, and doesn't have the same level of 'non-stick' to it.) eta: I do have parchment paper, and will sometimes use that for pounding a chicken breast flat, etc. but in my opinion, parchment doesn't stay as flat as waxed paper does, and its tendency to 'roll up' on me when I'm trying to use it annoys the crap out of me. Also the loud crinkling that parchment paper does annoys me (probably irrationally). eta2: I also use freezer paper for some things, too, but I seem to recall reading a while ago somewhere that they were thinking about discontinuing that particular item. I know freezer paper is used for sewing / quilting, but I've also used it for wrapping meat in the freezer.

I use it when separating meat when freezing so that it's easier to get apart later. I also use it when baking pies if I'm making a double crust and need to separate and store the dough to chill.
Every so often I'll grab a piece for crafting, too, lol.

I do have a roll. My mom would always lay out newspaper and put wax paper on top for cookies fresh from the oven.Exactly! no... after the cookies cool just a bit on a cooling rack, they go on a folded-over flour sack dish towel to finish cooling off!! lol!! That's what my Grandma and Mom always did, and I still do (on those rare occasions I bake cookies, anyway). And it's why some of my flour sack towels have grease stains on them. (my mom actually embroidered me a couple sets of flour sack towels a number of years ago; they're still the best towels for drying dishes- and they're bigger than most dish towels. I'll never get rid of them-- both for sentimental reasons, and for how practical they are.) not to mention, I don't ever have any newspaper around the house, lol.

My rolls is the store brand from Smart and Final and it is so flimsy and yeah, its not as waxy as how I remember the Cut-Rite wax paper is. Now you guys who use either wax paper to pound your chicken breasts, doesn't it tear? I use an old clean Ziplock bag cut open to do that. and nooo are you kidding me about the Freezer paper? I buy that in huge rolls to wrap my meat in before they go in a ziplock. I use my vaccum sealer for a lot of things but sometimes if I'm lazy I'll do the freezer paper/ziplock. Oh I hope that's not true that they discontinue it!

Oh I hope that's not true that they discontinue it! I think the people who use freezer paper for quilting reasons were up in arms about the potential discontinuation, so maybe it was just a rumor. I hope so anyway, too! That might have been a few years ago already, actually.

Hmm... I use it fairly often still when baking. I use it to put my cookies on after the rack but before packaging them up. When I give people cookies, I put wax paper between layers of cookies.
