My burning question is, why is it WAX paper? Shouldn't it be WAXED paper? lol IDK but that's the official name, Wax Paper and not waxed I looked it up I know that is the official name because I double checked before posting lest I be attacked by an angry mob armed with rolls of wax paper. But it isn't paper made of wax, it's paper that has been waxed. It's like ice tea vs iced tea.

well, I did title this thread "thoughts on wax paper" so this is as good a thread as any to discuss the way it's seemingly incorrectly named!

We do always keep a roll around. I don't know the last time I used it, but I do know that if we ever run out, then we immediately need some.

We ALL seem to have that one roll we can't get rid of lol. and it's not even a Costco size roll where i would feel guilty chucking it out. it's smaller than a Cling Wrap roll and yet, i can't pitch it. i honestly can't remember what i used it last for.

Wow four pages!
I use it for my “easel” when painting and to press tissue paper down for decoupaging seashells. And when I’m gluing things. And like others, for pounding chicken cutlets. I also use it between frozen cutlets.
In summary, these are the ways I use waxed paper. (I’m grading essays tonight and couldn’t stop myself.)

I use it often. Example: when I'm making meatloaf, I put the *glob* on the paper and form it into a loaf. When I'm making hamburgers, I place them formed patties on the paper. DH uses it when he paints. We got through a roll about every 3-4 months.

I do have a roll. My mom would always lay out newspaper and put wax paper on top for cookies fresh from the oven. My mother did too. I do too on the occasions I bake cookies.

I use it when baking, I roll my dough between wax paper so I don't have to keep using flour b/c that dries out my cookies.

I use it quite a bit - lining baking tins, separating layers of things going into the fridge or a cake tin, run under the tap and scrunched up to go on top of things to stop them drying out, steaming puddings etc etc.

I use it to cover stuff in microwave, to line pans for cakes and some loafs, to roll ice box cookies in.. I probably use a roll in a year

I've had my roll of it forever, too.
I'm another that grew up with it - our sandwiches were wrapped in it, as well as a lot of other things.
Now, I use it for wrapping up cookie dough that is to be chilled, then sliced, to put between layers of cookies if it's a tall cookie tin, if I'm dipping anything in chocolate, I sit it on paper towel for the chocolate to set. I think that's about it.

I think I answered back in February but I've noticed that I also use waxed paper when I'm zesting lemons/limes/oranges.

I use it when I make white chocolate covered pretzels every Christmas. I also usually is it when I make stuffed shells or manicotti. I let the noodles cool on the wax paper before I stuff them.

I see this is an old thread but….
Have you thought about going back & using it for the things that you mom & grandma did??
Plastic doesn’t biodegrade by wax paper does so perhaps it is better for sandwiches? There’s ways to fold & tuck it that no strings would be needed.
And parchment paper does have silicone in/on it so those of use that use it because we think it’s ‘healthier’ than non stick it might not be.
🤷♀️ I remember pressing flowers in it then when the flowers were pressed & dried ironing it together to seal it up.

After I originally posted this thread in February I went searching for the Cut Rite brand of wax paper because the knock of one I have was too thin and not waxy enough. I didn't find it at the first store I looked for at and lost interest. Now I'm wanting to look for it again, because I do like this idea. Plus the sentimentality of using it.

And when putting the hamburger patties on the platter for grilling, I line the platter with wax paper so the raw meat does not touch the platter. I learned something new! Great ideas, but I think this is my favorite! I always have it around and mainly use it for cooling my chocolate peanut butter bon bons and chex mix.
