It’s still a choice. No one is holding someone down and forcing them to be vaccinated. Either comply with your work requirements or lose your job. That’s your choice. Go find another job. Your not entitled to any specific job. That's what you just don't seem to understand. It's not a choice if you are going to lose your job, a job that you didn't have to get a vaccine to get the job in the first place. It's forced coercion. And it's wrong!!! It’s still a choice. I’m not misunderstanding anything. My job regularly changes — it’s my choice to stay or to find another job. No One is entitled to a job let alone any specific job. Comply with your job requirements or find another job — it’s that simple. Employers have long been allowed to set job requirements including vaccinations.

And I will never be able to get over parents getting kicked off of airplanes because their 2-3 year old child would not keep a mask on. There is SO MUCH wrong with that. But guess what.....now that the mandates will all be getting dropped, what was it all for in the first place?

Sure it is. Nobody forces you to get it. Businesses have every right to make requirements of their employees. I had to have proof of vaccines for my job. We also had to get a hepatitis vaccine one year. Everyone in the school district had to have it. The Covid vaccine is no different. If you don’t want a vaccine, you are free to look for another job. This is nothing new. Businesses have always had requirements for employees. This is nothing new. Businesses have always had requirements for employees.
It's completely new. MOST people never had to have a vaccine to get their jobs and now they are forcing it or lose the job that some have had for 20, 30 or 40 years. Too bad. There are all kinds of requirements with teaching today that didn’t exist when I entered the profession. I can comply with them or find a different job. It’s that simple. I really don’t know why some people think they’re more special than the rest of us. Historically, conservatives have been pro-business and in favor of letting businesses set requirements even if they hurt the worker. What has changed now?

So apparently, some of the groups behind this protest are trying to get US truckers to target the Super Bowl this weekend. Beau of the Fifth Column explains why that isn’t such a good idea. Not to mention fucking around with avid sports fans who have paid a lot of money for their tickets. Those truckers are fools if they piss off the ticket holders, some of whom won’t play nice. Sports fans that I will bet not 20% will be wearing masks at. Lets see if the halftime show acts will be masked.

I was not in patient care at all, but working in a critical care facility, and I was required to get my flu shot every year. This was 15 years ago.

I think there are some assumptions and misinformation in your post. If the truckers were having a peaceful protest that wasn’t disruptive, they might have more support. The Democrats are not coming down on them because of their jobs, we value and appreciate the work they do. We are opposed to their actions - blocking downtown streets, harassing pedestrians, blaring horns all day, blocking a border crossing etc. The blocked border crossing led to Ford and GM cancelling shifts at their factories. We support the auto workers who lost wages and the people in downtown Ottawa who have had to contend with the noisy, disruptive truckers for 2 solid weeks. Vaccine mandates are strictly that - requiring a vaccine, nothing more. They do not give governments greater powers for other medical treatments. Vaccine mandates have been in place for the small pox and other vaccines since the Revolutionary war and they have not lead to broader powers. You are SO completely wrong about that. People are losing their jobs for not being vaxed. They are not being let into stores and restaurants if they are not vaxed. They are being denied healthcare if they are not vaxed. They are being treated like crap if they are not vaxed. And don't try to lecture me about keeping people safe with vaccines. Turns out, the vaxes didn't work like they thought they would and everyone is still getting the virus despite the vaccines and masks. It will always be like that. They never eradicated the flu and they will never eradicate the covid. People will have to learn to live with it just like we do with the flu. In the next month or so, all mandates will be lifted, probably largely because of protests like this. All of a sudden, the virus won't matter any more, no more masks, no more vax cards to get into places, no more quarantining completely healthy people. The virus just magically disappears once the mandates are stopped? What a crock of crap that people had to go through this in the first place. THAT is what this protest is about. In Canada, the unvaxxed are not being denied access to stores or healthcare at all. If the mandates are lifted in a month, it will not be ignored. Our local hospital is still beyond capacity. My cousin with lung cancer couldn't be admitted for surgery in our home town. They requested another centre and they didn't have the capacity to take him either due to covid. They were able to take him in Niagara. So there's that. Did you see the "press conference in Ottawa yesterday with the truckers demanding to take over the gov't in a coalition with the opposition parties? 🤣 The mayor of Ottawa said that it was like a Monty Python skit.

GM and Ford canceling shifts because of the Ambassador Bridge backup. Those fuckers need to be arrested and their vehicles towed off the bridge. To be honest, these factories are shut down all the time for various reasons. They rely on "just in time" parts to arrive via truck and they are often late or held up. They were shut down for weeks due to a shortage of chip parts. They shut down to re-tool a few times a year. Sometimes the shift arrives and they are sent home when they run out of supplies. We really need Premier Doug Ford to do something but he likes to hide when the going gets tough and he is afraid to confront the anti-vaxxers because they vote conservative. The election is in June.

Would you be okay if bussinesses start requiring for example birth control as a condition of employment? After all people could just get another job if they don't like it according to the current rhetoric.

Interesting. I wonder what the auto workers who are on the verge of a layoff have to say about the protest.
I'd be willing to bet that they would be happier laid off than fired because they weren't vaxed. The difference being that getting vaccinated is a choice, and being laid off is not. Especially when the protest has nothing to do with your (general you) job or yourself. The workers at the GM plant are being laid off because the components they need for the production lines are not being allowed through so they have to halt production. cindosha do you think it's fair and reasonable for these workers to lose their jobs when the protest has nothing whatsoever to do with them but they are prevented from working by others? Do you think the impact of the protest is fair when somewhere in the region of $320 million of goods cross that bridge daily worth $1.7 BILLION of trade daily. Ask yourself what impact that will have on your ( US) economy if it is allowed to continue? And for the record I think Canada has every right to mandate vaccinations for anyone crossing their border into their country. For the ones that think it's very unfair, I hope non of you are thinking of taking an out of country vacation or a cruise in the coming months because you will find that the same conditions apply - no vaccine = no cruise/ no vacation, to very many countries. But the protest has now morphed into something totally different to why it started. Others, with a very different agenda have taken over and it has got out of hand not only in US/Canada but also in parts of Europe, This no longer about vaccine mandates it's anarchy.

I don’t assume that, but I’m not particularly a fan of the libertarian take on this either, which seems where you fall. And is doing far more damage to vaccine rhetoric in general, than anything, IMO. Public health vaccine mandates for existing vaccines were normal here. You can’t send your children to school without them, and yes, there are many jobs you can’t have without them. You can’t join the military. All this undermines and erodes that, as we’ve seen by states starting to roll back even these in response to catering to a subset of voters who have made it clear they don’t ever want to be told what to do, by anyone. You can’t send your children to school without themOh yes you can... Not in WV. No exemptions for anything other than medical reasons. There is no option to be exempted for religious reasons. I believe there is one other state where this applies, but I forget which one.

Mandates that fire workers from their jobs if they are not vaccinated and require vax cards to get into a lot of stores, venues and restaurants.

I don't think ANYONE should lose their jobs because of a vax/mask mandate, no matter how it trickles down. That is the whole point of this protest. Didn't your country lift all of the mandates recently? Or are they not in effect yet? Not meaning to be snarky, just curious.
