Seattle Kraken invited a Ukrainian born singer to perform before tonight's game. They'll also be donating money to the UN Refugee Agency to support the Ukrainian people. I think it's a beautiful gesture. What a voice he has, too!

France seizes superyacht owned by sanctioned Russian oligarch He's the Rosneft (Russian Oil co) CEO "The yacht, named "Amore Vero" — or "True Love" in Italian — arrived at the French Mediterranean port of La Ciotat in January. It was scheduled to leave the port on April 1. "Thank you to the French customs officers who are enforcing the European Union's sanctions against those close to the Russian government," French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said in a tweet." www.cnn.com/2022/03/03/business/oligarch-superyacht-seized/index.html
Awww. Buddy.
Get on the horn to your buddy Putin who let you rape Russia's public/shared assets for your own bloated self. Tell him to pull out.

Many oligarchs are converting their fortunes to bitcoin where it can’t be touched . Sanctions here in the UK are being delayed by bungling civil servants. Roman Abramovich is being allowed to sell off all his assets whilst claiming not to be close to Putin - so many blunders here alone.

I am literally shaking after reading this... Intel official: Russia planning public executions after Ukrainian cities capturedTravis Gettys March 03, 2022 Russia reportedly has drawn up a grisly plan to break Ukraine's morale as the war drags into its second week. A European intelligence official said Moscow will crack down on protests and potentially conduct public executions to discourage Ukrainians from fighting back as cities fall under the Kremlin's control, reported Bloomberg.Russia is also planning violent crowd control tactics and repressive detention of protest organizers to prevent uprisings. www.rawstory.com/ukraine-public-execution/

Should he be allowed to come back .. there is a video in the piece, but won't copy here correctly. Who is the viral American celebrating Russia's invasion? Now we knowSarah K. Burris March 03, 2022 A video went viral this week of a man in a black leather jacket and army-green cap, with a thick southern accent and a convoy of Russian tanks behind him. The video shows he's clearly all-in for Russia, parroting propaganda that they were there to "liberate" Ukraine. He even used the Putin line that they were somehow fighting "Nazis" in Ukraine. Rolling Stone found out that the man's name is Russell “Texas” Bentley, and he farms cannabis in the United States. “These guys are tough. These guys are ready. And there’s plenty of ‘em,” Bentley says in the video. “We’re gettin’ ready to bring the hammer down. These guys are going to save and liberate all the good people of Ukraine. And the bad people? BOOM! Kick their ass.”In an hour-long interview, Bentley indicated that he was with the Russian army for the long haul. In fact, they might take over all of Europe and the United States for Putin along with Ukraine, according to his posts on Russian social media, saying he was "heading west with the Liberators of Ukraine. We may stop in Kiev, we may stop on the English Channel. We may liberate the USA." “I don’t give a f*ck what they think about me in the United States,” he told Rolling Stone. “The government — or most of the people."He once mounted an independent campaign for a Minnesota Senate seat that was ultimately won by Paul Wellstone. He's from a wealthy family and grew up in the "Beverly Hills of Dallas," he explained and a middle school dropout, though he did go back to get his GED. Growing up, he said "I was reading Ho Chi Minh and Che Guevara. I understood the Vietnamese were right to defend their land against foreign invaders, and that the United States was wrong. I understood that Fidel and Che were right to overthrow the foreign masters that had turned Cuba into a casino and bordello. I’m anti-racist. I’m anti-imperialist. I grew up supporting people’s rights to defend themselves.” But when it comes to Ukraine, his ideas about democracy were "less developed." The report noted talking to him was difficult because he appeared to live in a completely different reality that is against the United States leaders and media. "Everything they say is a lie. It is 180 degrees — the opposite direction from what is true. Believe me, bro, this is very clear cut,” he explained. “This is the battle, not just of Ukraine. This is the battle between good-and-evil for the future of the world. And right now, it’s looking like the world might just have a chance because us and our friends are kicking some Nazi ass right now." He closed by praying that God protect the innocent and deliver everything everyone else deserves. IMO, NO, he should not be allowed to return. stay with your new friends.

Personally I would go for stomping Russia into the ground but then I’m not calling the shots.

They’re like legitimized gvmt mafia stooges. Like owning prestigious sports teams and expensive real estate everywhere and yachts. Just argh.
It’s clear evidence of just how much money talks, I know. We’re educating the children of these people, argh.

I was reading comments on an article about the oligarch who is selling the Chelsea football club and people are painting him out to be such a great guy for donating the profits, etc.

But buying real estate and football teams in western countries legitimately? Ugh. And I feel the same about mafia/oligarch type characters from other countries, doing the same.

I was reading comments on an article about the oligarch who is selling the Chelsea football club and people are painting him out to be such a great guy for donating the profits, etc. Like it’s one thing to know who they are, and what role they play in the Russian system. But buying real estate and football teams in western countries legitimately? Ugh. And I feel the same about mafia/oligarch type characters from other countries, doing the same. This is where Putin's real fears lie, though. That everyone has started to see that the West presents better options than Russia does. Even the people he has greatly enriched prefer their Western lifestyles, including the potential for future profits, over him and Russia. Not all oligarchs are his friends and would take a bullet for him. This doesn't happen if the West throws Russia in a closet and forgets about it. Letting Russians play in the Western playground allows them the opportunity to see & learn for themselves which way is better. The mistake was not having a bazillion playground attendants. A garden grows both healthy plants and weeds. Obviously, the West has been watering a lot of the weeds as if they were healthy plants, instead of ripping them out, and letting them grow and tie around *their* hands and necks. However, IMO, planting the garden in the first place wasn't the mistake. Ripping it out completely, and never replanting it feeds no one. We have to eventually replant and learn to tend the weeds. What we can't know, is have any of them have or will flip. Who is talking to Western intelligence, and the volume of information they provide, that will be one part of what happens next. Obviously, the US and the UK has had some pretty good intelligence and I'm not going to assume it's all been Kremlin spies. Also, another thing to consider regarding allowing the oligarchs to sell such as Chelsea FC, properties etc. Money is easier to seize and *store* than "stuff." What is the benefit to the UK torpedoing Chelsea FC to punish Abramovich, when they have the option of waiting and taking the money instead? The UK, as all nations do, need their "circuses" performing, not tied up in a legal abyss that ends in a historic team folding. The legal part will take years to unwind, meanwhile our governments will be responsible for all the upkeep, which is not free. The same for the yachts. There will be some high profile seizures, shots across the bow, toward people Intelligence believes will not be useful in anyway. We need to do what is effective, and not just what feels good.

Another thing, the question in the US for a long time has been "Why tax the rich, haven't they earned it?" My answer has always been: "Because they have the most to lose. They should pay the most to protect it." We are seeing, in real-time, what happens when a country prioritizes personal wealth & power over the ability for the country to function. Money isn't enough to protect you when everything falls apart. The US has not yet committed the most egregious error; our military still has a high state of readiness. But we have let everything else fall to rot to line the pockets of the wealthy with bad justifications about how that would help regular people more. The pandemic showed us part of this... public health & healthcare, supply chains & domestic investment, schools. Climate change has showed us part of this... droughts, wildfires, energy grids. There are others, but this is a thread about Ukraine & Russia. We have a choice to be Russia or Ukraine. Ukraine is not a perfect country; corruption runs rampant. But since the events in 2014, they have taken better steps to invest in themselves. We need to do the same, invest in US and not our oligarchs. There are some things the government does have to invest in besides a military, and when we underfund those things... it is at our own peril.

It's bad enough to have to live under a disgusting despot, but to get thrown into a war with people some consider kin for no reason other than his maniacal greed adds to it. Being taken out by one of his own citizens would be poetic justice.

my fear in all this is that the media coverage will wain. that it will become just another war being waged overseas. i don't want it to fall off the headlines. we have to keep the pressure on Putin. he won't stop attacking so international awareness and support must not end.
