I think this may be the key point...I believe that his days are numbered one way or another, as leader at least. I believe so as well. Whether it is coup, an assassination, or just health issues, I think he will be out eventually. During Stalin's time, everyone was terrified to go after him. But if they had, they could have become the next leader of the country. All it takes is one general, one oligarch saying "this guy is a disaster - I'd be better at this than he is, he must be stopped" and it will happen. I do think he has health issues that are affecting his actions. If he is immunocompromised in some way, I'm sure there is some sort of biological agent that he could be exposed to. It's just a matter of who wants to do it and what resources they have. I hope that you are right. But if he lasts for awhile, things can get worse for the Ukrainians and the Russians. I read that the BBC is broadcasting shortwave into parts of Russia, so hopefully some Russians will know what is really going on. But I have to believe that many of them have no idea what he’s really doing. I hope that someone is brave enough to put this guy out to pasture. If the generals and some oligarchs combine forces, that might do it.

Putin just said they will deal and come out better: “We will just have to move some projects a little to the right, to acquire additional competencies. But we will still solve the problems that we face” he said. “In the end, we will even benefit from this because we will acquire additional competencies.” Well, that’s scary. Am I reading him right? “Keep your sanctions; we will fend for ourselves.” That does not bode well for anyone. He will be fine, it not like he’s ever really cared about the Russian people. He’s wrong though, Russia is really dependent on the world now for a LOT of things.

Of course he is going to say that the sanctions aren’t a big deal. He needs to calm his citizens. He is also not rational in his thoughts, so there is that.

Well, that’s scary. Am I reading him right? “Keep your sanctions; we will fend for ourselves.” That does not bode well for anyone. The Russians have gotten entangled in trade in the last several decades. He is completely bullshitting about how dependent they have become on trade and how integrated they want to be into the world community. The only moves he has left at this point are nukes or turning off the spigots. The latter would harm the entire world, but Russia most of all, as that's one of the few sources of revenue carved out in the sanctions. So, if he turns off the spigots, the country is done. The sanctions have not all been applied yet. The west is dribbling out add'l sanctions over time, so that every time an oligarch reads a paper/news article, they will see further erosion of their ability to live the high life they're used to. Putin is posturing for his people. They cannot make it on their own - at least not if they want to live the kinds of lives to which many Russians have become accustomed.

He has a point. If Putin gets away with invading Ukraine what will stop him from “acquiring” other countries like Finland or countries that were once part of the USSR? Why Finland? Apparently Putin thinks it should be part of his version of the USSR.
From the AP ..
“ HELSINKI (AP) — Through the Cold War and the decades since, nothing could persuade Finns and Swedes that they would be better off joining NATO — until now.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has profoundly changed Europe’s security outlook, including for Nordic neutrals Finland and Sweden, where support for joining NATO has surged to record levels.
A poll commissioned by Finnish broadcaster YLE this week showed that, for the first time, more than 50% of Finns support joining the Western military alliance. In neighboring Sweden, a similar poll showed those in favor of NATO membership outnumber those against.
“The unthinkable might start to become thinkable,” tweeted former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, a proponent of NATO membership.”

Apparently Putin thinks it should be part of his version of the USSR. It’s not just Ukraine. He’s been acting with impunity in Syria, Chechnya and other places for years, and no one stopped him then. Getting away with? He’s already gotten away with a ton. 🤷🏼♀️

You know China is watching this closely because if Putin gets away with invading Ukraine I’m pretty sure China has a shopping list of countries it would like to acquire starting with Taiwan.

I agreed with Graham last night when he called for someone to take out Putin. But it has to be someone in Russia that does it with absolutely no ties to the West. And I still feel that way.

China’s reaction to this current dynamic is interesting. This war is going to be messy. China doesn’t like that kind of ‘messy’ world stage. Not that they’re against messy, they prefer their messy to be more covert, and less of a savage economic impact.

Zelensky says Russian troops are traveling with cremation chambers . Zelenskyy Says Russians Are Carrying Cremation Chambers Into Ukraine The Ukrainian leader alleged that the chambers are to dispose of Russian troops who have been killed, thereby obscuring the true number of casualties. By Sara Boboltz 03/03/2022 02:05pm EST Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Thursday that Russian troops are lugging mobile cremation chambers with them as they continue their assault across the country, allegedly to dispose of their own dead and obscure the true number of casualties they’ve incurred. These guys are carrying those cremation chambers for themselves,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference with reporters in Kyiv where he lamented that young Russian soldiers are being used as “cannon fodder.” www.huffpost.com/entry/zelenskyy-russia-cremation-chambers-ukraine_n_6220ea42e4b0ae4ab9c8e705

Volodymyr Zelensky survives three assassination attempts in days "Two different outfits have been sent to kill the Ukrainian president — mercenaries of the Kremlin-backed Wagner group and Chechen special forces. Both have been thwarted by anti-war elements within Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). Wagner mercenaries in Kyiv have sustained losses during their attempts and are said to have been alarmed by how accurately the Ukrainians had anticipated their moves. A source close to the group said it was “eerie” how well briefed Zelensky’s security team appeared to be." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/zelensky-survives-three-assassination-attempts-in-days-xnstdfdfc

I agree with him, but him saying that out loud on TV actually just helps Putin. And if someone did kill Putin, it would now look like it was ordered by the US. Putin can use it as more propaganda and proof that the US is against Russia.

I can hardly watch the news about this anymore. I can't believe that in 2022 the world has to sit back and watch Putin do what he is doing. Blowing up apartment buildings and schools and churches. I know there is not really any alternative, but it still sucks.

The importance of Swan Lake is that when the coup against Gorbachev happened, this is what played on all of the TV channels.

Putin has committed crimes against humanity already...MORE THAN ONCE...and they are just now talking about bringing up charges? I watched the interview that Zelensky did yesterday. He made the comment about how he warned everyone and asked for weapons before they invaded, and the weapons never came. Leaders kept telling him to wait. Makes me mad!

My cousin's wife work(ed) for RT News out of Washington. She lost her job yesterday as it appears they have closed up shop. She is a big time Trump humper and has been posting so much fake news on her twitter, in particular the whole line about how Nazis in Ukraine.
I had a conversation the day before with a family member telling them I thought she might lose her job.

You know China is watching this closely because if Putin gets away with invading Ukraine I’m pretty sure China has a shopping list of countries it would like to acquire starting with Taiwan. Exactly. So is Iran. Why? Because sanctions are being dealt with there as well. Sanctions brought their oil output from about 2.5mmbd to about 1mmbd (in spite of Trump wanting it to go to zero). Then the former ignorant POTUS and his admin pulled us out of the Iran Nuclear deal Biden's got us back negotiating. Iran knows the world needs their oil now more than ever. It gives them leverage. That's the thing about geopolitics. It's not as simple as an ignorant person, for example those whose geopolitical world view is based on end-times theology, might think it is. www.cnn.com/2022/03/03/politics/iran-nuclear-deal-us/index.html
