We need a good campaign to make the sacrifice into a patriotic duty. Morally, it’s the right thing to do. But we have all seen how little willingness to do the right thing exists in a certain belligerent segment of our population. We did it during WW2, we did it during the oil embargo.
Carpool when you can.
Take public transportation if possible.
Combine trips.
Drive a more fuel efficient vehicle if you can.
When you drive alone, you’re driving with Putin.

But I also agree with Merge that the oil companies should also be pressured to keep prices reasonable and not continue to raise prices just because they can. |

How long are people going to keep bleating about trump? It’s funny that nobody has anything to say about hunter biden and his questionable dealings with Ukraine and China. It’s interesting. How long are you people going to keep bleating about Hillary? But her emails! Sorry, I had to. |

They are very, very clever. I’m sure that those patents had nothing to do with dear old dad. |

Is that a thing that could be done? Genuinely asking, I’m just not sure how you’d go about doing it. No idea, really. DH frequently reminds me that corporations have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to maximize profits, and that's what they're doing. But it's galling that the GOP will then turn around and blame Democrats for high prices when it's the free market capitalism they all love so much that's hurting everyone's pocketbooks. It would be nice if prominent Democrats and others with a platform would call out both the GOP and the oil companies for this, but they won't. Regulating energy prices would be seen as an assault on the free market - a step closer to that dreaded socialism - and then that would be the next tool they use to bludgeon us. Chris Murphy heard you. Would’ve been better from Joe Manchin, but that’ll never happen. I understand why NATO/United States doesn’t want to escalate the conflict by using weapons. But at some point they can’t keep ignoring what is happening. Plus if Putin gets away with this he won’t stop at Ukraine. Then what?

He wants a bigger war and/or wants to see what the “line” is where people can’t stand to watch these things happen anymore and not do anything about it. |

And how many more innocent people die while waiting around for something to happen at a negotiating table that lets Putin save face? And what makes you think that if the West let’s Putin save face he won’t do something more outrageous? Or that his demands at the negotiating table won’t be outrageous? Then what? Oh yes innocent people including children continue to die. Ukraine did nothing to deserve this. |

Neighboring countries taking in refugees is amazing and wonderful but it is not going to stop Putin. Giving money and humanitarian aid to Ukraine is not going to stop Putin. Obviously nobody but Putin wants an out and out war but I don’t think this passive way it is being handled now it’s going to stop him. What do you think putin saving face looks like? I wasn’t aware of the details of why, when and how Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons but Now that I have a little more understanding, I don’t think any of the countries involved are honoring the agreement with them (Russia, US and UK). I don’t want a war with Russia but I also don’t think Putin will give up and walk away for any reason. The sanctions may help to keep him from invading other countries but they won’t help Ukraine. |
