Yesterday when I got home from work at about 4:45, youngest DS (10yo) was snuggled up in his bed sleeping. He woke up a few hours later and said his stomach was hurting. He said that there was pain and he also felt like he was going to throw up. He now says that it started hurting last Wednesday and he has felt nauseous off and on since Friday. When I touch his mid/lower center of his belly he says it hurts and is a 6/7 out of 10. No pain on the sides. He hasn't had any vomiting or diarrhea, just says he feels like he will throw up sometimes. Right now he seems to be feeling better except the pain.
If you or your child had appendicitis, what was the progression? Does it sound at all like this, or not?

When my husband had appendicitis years ago, he had off and on stomach upset and pain for a little over a week. Turns out it hadn't ruptured but was "leaking." When it got bad, it got bad fast, and I made a mad dash to the ER in the middle of the night. Of course, as a man, he kept blowing it off for days until he just couldn't anymore. It can't hurt to take him to the doctor and have it checked out, just to put your mind at ease.

I’d take him to the doctor. Appendicitis or not, that’s been going on long enough to take a look at.

Appendicitis can present in different ways. I didn't have nausea, but had pain. Mine was caught so early that I had a very easy case. I would take your ds to the doctor and find out what's going on. It could be anything from gastroenteritis to something else. I wish him well. Mama ((((HUGS))).

Please take him in. I say this not to terrify you, but my sister went into sepsis because of a burst appendix. Just take him in - if they say it's gas, great. At least you know.

My DS when 5 years old had an appendicitis and he could walk but had a huge pain in his stomach. No real nausea. When the pediatrician pressed on the lower abdomen, he screamed. Went to the ER at 12:00, appedix out by 5:00, home by 1:00 the next day.

I had pain in my abdomen and didn't suspect appendicitis until it was almost unbearable and then the pain moved more to my side. From start of pain until I went to the ER it was about 48 hours. Mine didn't rupture but my brother's did and he was in the hospital for five days.
Hopefully you've caught it quick, and the operation is simple.

It isn't necessarily the push on abdomen, it is the press, quick let go. Like the pop up.. The other thing is can he jump up and down?
I do think the doctor is the place to be!!

Please please please take him to the doctor.
Mine is a long bizarre story but it involved vomiting bile and severe pain. I have a super high tolerance for pain and this was a 10.

I hope by now you've taken him to the doctor. When I was a tween, I had bad stomach cramps for 2 days along w/fever and vomiting. My mom thought it was the flu. My grandpa took me to the doctor (back when you didn't have to have "permission"), who sent me on to meet the surgeon at the hospital. My grandparents were so made at my parents for "almost killing our baby"! Good luck and hoping it's gas but if it is the appendix, surgery is an easy recovery!!

Regardless of anyone else's experiences, your ds needs to see a medical professional.

Take him to the ER. NOW.
My DD was four years old. She described it as pain in her belly. She was nauseous, but did not throw up. I spent the night sleeping on the foot of her bed. Called the Dr office and the nurse said it was probably just the flu or something she ate. I called and called as the morning went by. In the early afternoon, I was getting ready to take her to the ER without the doctors approval, when I got a call from the doctor himself, telling us to meet him at the hospital emergency. They ran some tests and you could hear him yelling at the ER staff to prioritize her results and get them to him ASAP. He called in a surgeon and they both were so sure it was appendicitis that the surgeon was prepared to operate without the results.
She was operated on about 2 hrs after we got to the hospital. When he cut her open, infection went all over him. Peritonitis had set in. During the night her temp spiked to 105. We almost lost her. She and I spent 11 days in the hospital. I went home only once. It was, without a doubt the worst time of my life. Not even my own cancer was as bad as almost losing my only child.
Just GO. NOW.

I agree with everyone else. Between the presence of actual pain and symptoms that haven't relented over the course of a few days, no matter what's happening it seems prudent to me at this point to go to a doctor. Hugs! I hope whatever is happening can be easily helped and that your DS will feel much better soon.

She was hospitalized for 2 weeks and my mother never forgave herself for thinking it was just the flu.

If you are worried about the possibility of it, it is time to be concerned.
My mom's story is similar to many here--parent didn't believe her and when she was finally taken under the knife, her appendix ruptured as they went to take it out.
My story also started with just a stomach ache. This was mid-80s so not a lot of imaging... they couldn't pinpoint the cause and decided to open me up and look. Appendix was actually fine but they took it out while they were in there. I tell this story because in retrospect, I wonder if that was actually my very first gall bladder attack, and so if appendicitis is ruled out and other cause can't be found, I would ask them to check that, too.

My son felt terrible after eating a whole pizza. I thought it was a stomach ache. I finally took him to the ER after hours of no relief, and when we got there he threw up and the pain went away. He'd already been checked in, so they continued to test his blood count, and that is when they realized he was having an appendicitis! So def go get it checked out, a blood test will confirm.

Other things that have had similar symptoms in our experience have been kidney stones and kidney infections, which of course also required medical attention. I think it's time to take him in!

That is how mine started. First tingling pain. I thought it was indigestion. It wasn’t. I remember it well.

I could tell you horror stories about complications with bowel obstructions as well. My son should not have survived his last one, the docs were sure he wouldn’t so at this point we don’t wait. We head to the Emerg asap (thankfully no Emerg trips since 2016 knock on wood). I’m hoping you have gone in and you have news by now and your son is fine.

My appendix ruptured when I was on vacation in Scotland and I spent the majority of my trip in a Scottish hospital. If I had listened to my body, I probably could have avoided the rupture.
I had sharp pains in my lower abdomen that I thought could have been an inflamed ovary. I ignored it because I figured it would go away and hell, I was on vacation in another country! It proceeded to get worse and I woke up in the middle of the night in excruciating pain and throwing up.
Please take him in to get checked out just in case. If you can avoid a rupture, that would be ideal!

You can try the pinch test or the jump test. "To perform the pinch-an-inch test, a fold of abdominal skin over McBurney's point is grasped and elevated away from the peritoneum. The skin is allowed to recoil back briskly against the peritoneum. If the patient has increased pain when the skin fold strikes the peritoneum, the test is positive and peritonitis probably is present." Pinch Test The Markle sign or jar tenderness is a clinical sign in which pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen is elicited by dropping from standing on the toes to the heels with a jarring landing. It is found in patients with localised peritonitis due to acute appendicitis.[1] It is similar to rebound tenderness, but may be easier to elicit when the patient has firm abdominal wall muscles. Abdominal pain on walking or running is an equivalent sign.[2] Jump Test aka Markle sign

We have a free service through work where they will do virtual or home visits free so I talked with a doctor through that. DS now says he feels fine but if it comes back or worsens we are supposed to have it checked out further.

I'd take him to the doctor. I had been to the doctor earlier in the day for pain. I had pain for several days. We had discussed a few possibilities and she gave me antibiotics and she asked about my appendix as I was leavinh.. A few hours later I had the horrible bathroom/vomit issue exactly every 20 minutes. I too sick to ride to the hospital I wanted to go to. My BP was extremely low by the time I arrived at the local hospital. It put me at the front of the line.
My mom's leaked and Cassie a few other issues(cysts and acute kidney failure) that nearly killed her.
I don't think mine presented itself like usual but what's usual with it? It seems to present itself so differently.

Keep a close eye on him. I did take our DD (9) in with vomiting, because she also had pink eye, completely unrelated of course. The doctor checked her stomach and she did not seem to have any pain. He told me to bring her right back if she worsened. In the morning she was in the fetal position and in pain. I took her in immediately. It turns out her appendix pointed in, not to the outside, so when the doctor first pressed on her abdomen it was fine.
She ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks with a ruptured appendix, allergic reaction to the antibiotics, and an infection. Plus, pink eye, so she looked like a hot mess!
Also, do NOT necessarily listen to the nurse line through your insurance company. Listen to your guts as a mama. We were camping near the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota with friends. Their daughter was experiencing appendicitis symptoms. The nurse line told them to wait. I told them screw that and take her in, because it was so much like what we experienced. She ended up being transported to Duluth for surgery.
