Annoying habits of your spouse/significant other?

Oh, where to start...

1) he will get a glass out of the cabinet and NEVER closes the door all the way. I think he does it now just to hear me slam the door.

2) does not wipe off the cutting board after cutting a take-away sandwich. Just leaves those crumbs there. WHY?!?

He does FINALLY fold the towels the right way though.

LOL! My DH does the knife on the sink edge thing, too. And never goes back to use it again, either.

He also always stops doing whatever he is doing at the 99% point. So if he cleans the table after dinner, he'll leave the cloth napkins on the table, or a trivet, or some other one thing. Last night he was unpacking and setting up a new cell phone at the dining room table, and he had the box, and cellophane, and the sim card sleeve, and papers, and he cleaned it all up, save for one little pamphlet that he left on the dining room table. Or he'll do a household project, but he'll leave a few extra screws or a pencil & paper, or a measuring tape behind in the room.

Of course, I leave entire projects about for ages while I work on them, so in comparison his tiny leftovers are something I tend not to mention; but since you asked....

Snoring. I hate it. No he can’t help it but man. When he is snoring bad, it’s bad.

He purchases an insane amount of condiments. Like why do you need 10 types of hot sauce?

Hmmm, let me think where to start…

Turns off lights when I have left the room for a few moments and will be returning imminently.
Tidies up around me in the kitchen, putting knives in the dishwasher etc before I’ve finished with them.
Snores but denies it. How does he know? And why deny it anyway? He always retorts with “So do you!” and maybe I do so I always tell him he’s free to nudge me or whatever.

I’ll stop now because I love him really 😉

He taps his hands and feet all the time. I am getting an ugly rug to put under the kitchen table so he doesn't tap his feet non stop. I could lightly tap my feet and it would be silent. But he likes to be loud. I suggest we listen to npr on every trip so he doesn't tap to songs.

Do you mind if I ask something I’ve never been able to understand? Why do you leave cabinets and drawers open? Do you want easy access the next time you need something? Is it from having non-soft-closing hinges so rather than risk slamming it or pinching your finger you leave it open? Are you not concerned with hitting the cabinet door? (tall people luxury, maybe? I would hit my head on a cabinet door) I can understand a lot of quirks but I’ve always wondered about this one. Please note: I am not asking to be a jerk, I’ve truly wondered and you seem nice enough to answer a random question from a stranger 😀

It's soap here.   "Will you get me two bars of Pears from the supermarket?"  "You do not need more soap, you have 16 bars in the cupboard, 2 of which are Pears".  "I like to have a choice."

I do not have the energy to list the bad habits.  

eta I've just remembered the Peas do not approve of bar soap.     We have liquid in the kitchen and utility if that lessens the horror.  

I love the blue Pears soap, has your DH tried that gillyp? Before peas give me reasons not to use bar soap I will tell you that I use it before bed to prep my face ready for the BiPap mask. No creams allowed at night for me.
I might get around to listing faults when I have a spare fortnight.

Oh yes.

1) He likes to eat a big caesar salad with all sorts of toppings for dinner during the week.  Everything is prepped, he just needs to throw it together.  Every night after he assembles it, he takes at LEAST five minutes to mix it all up, add more items, etc.  I HATE casear salads and the smell bothers me (and he will do this as I'm sitting at the island eating, never before, never after, right when I'm eating) and mix it all up.  The smell and the sound (he uses a ton of dressing) is off putting.  

2) He talks on the phone a lot for work, all hours.  He wanders as he talks, he can't sit and talk, so wanders through the downstairs, upstairs, even the garage.  

3) He uses a cup to get a sip of water and then instead of washing it, will just sit it in the dish drainer.  Eew.

Yes to the open cabinets and drawers thing. I once came into the kitchen and every single cabinet that held food was open. I called out, "Honey, the poltergeist is back," because that's something they do on those "real ghost story" shows.

He turns on every single light in every single room he enters, even in the middle of a sunny afternoon. So, since Covid made home-workers of everybody, I spend all day following after him, turning off lights. As a child of the "energy crisis" era, I'd have gotten a swat for having left a light on. Asked him once why he does it, and he said, "It's cheery!"

The one nobody will blame me for? He chews with his mouth open. His mother did the same thing. His sweet father was far too polite to correct anybody's table manners. But, he doesn't do it in public, so it's just being disgusting for people who don't deserve better (me).

However, I literally thank God for him every single night as I say my bedtime prayers. The man just started the laundry for me, & told me he'd make the bed, because he noticed my allergies are acting up today. He'll make a special trip, unasked, in the middle of the day to the drug store if one of my Rx is filled. The sweetness is more than the irritant by 10 to the nth power, & I don't know why he puts up with me.

Puts wet towels in the hamper....right below the hooks i put up to keep wet towels out of the hamper.

Saves boxes. We have trash fairies that come every night. We put the trash outside the door and they come collect it. If he empties a box....any box from shipping from the box that the cauliflower rice comes in he flattems it and stacks it in the bathroom. Why? So he can "cut them down and then throw them away. They fit in the trash bag just fine and could ve gone that night.

Although I share your annoyance about leaving the two crackers, etc. I am always conscious of asking someone to eat more food after they have decided they are done. My mom used to use us as “human garbage disposals” when I was a kid so she could get rid of food, and I found it and still do find it quite offensive. A TBS of cereal or milk is one thing, but, I just wanted to give perspective on how the other side of that issue might look to someone. :-)
