How are all the Pokies tonight?
DH and DD have tomorrow off which'll be nice. Not entirely sure what the plans are but at some point over the weekend I need to get out in the garden again - it poured today. I spent the day in the kitchen instead - cut up all the vegetables and melons, baked bread, made New England baked beans, cleaned out the fridge, organised cabinets, washed dishes and so on. Still need to sweep and mop but not tonight -I'm done. Hoping to scrap a page or two before bed.

Good Morning! The weather has been all over the place. Nearly 80 for a few days followed by a blustery day in the 40's and then it warms up again. No snow though! My cold is pretty well gone thankfully! My DS2 was released from the treatment center and he's doing so well! I'm so proud of him. He has had some pretty intense therapy and is voluntarily staying in outpatient therapy which is something he has never done before. He seems quite serious about turning himself around. He's working with his attorney to get diversion since it's his first charge. I hope that works out for him. Linda I dread the time when Abby will need frequent vet visits. At the same time, I'm happy she is spending her last years with me being spoiled lol. Wow, you have accomplished a lot! My apartment needs cleaning and I need to figure out meals for next week. I got my taxes paid this morning, how are you coming with yours grammadee? I have not scrapped a lick since mid-March. But I'm hosting a crop tomorrow evening, and I signed up for a Saturday sketch next week so something is going to get scrapped lol. I chose an 8.5x11 sketch for nylene and Linda although you are both great at making a 12x12 sketch work. I don't know how you do it. Happy Friday to everyone!

Happy Easter weekend everyone! Linda - you are so good at adulting! I am not, mainly on the housekeeping end of things. Our house is SO crowded and we don't have "nice" things in general, so even with maximum effort it still doesn't look nice in here, so then I don't try as hard as I should. How old is LF? My DD officially has a boyfriend - they've been dating for about a month, and made it "official" relationship this week. She was grin and happy dance from ear to ear. He sounds like a really nice kid - she met him in class at uni, he's doing a nutrition degree planning to be a dietician. She said though, "who knew dating would be so expensive". Yes! We live a 30-40 minute drive from him and gas + activity = $$ It is 10:30 and I'm the only one out of bed. It is 7 degrees, feels like 3 degrees, here (45 feels like 37...) and the weather warning reads "60-80 km/hour winds with localized power impacts". So I don't think much yard work today. joyfulnana - I'm so glad your DS is doing well. Will your boys be around for Easter? You said you are hosting a crop tomorrow? I don't have record of that - and will definitely join in! What time?

Good Good Friday Morning! Linda, you must be a whirling dervish. No idea how you get as many things done--both in your home and in your crafting. My house is hopefully not a health risk, but that is about all I can say about my housekeeping skills. The kitchen will be sanitized before and after Operation Turkey in the morning. Did the bathrooms on Wednesday and will give them another go through tomorrow afternoon. Anyone who doesn't like what they see when they get here can pick up a dust cloth or a broom LOL. Glad you are feeling better, joyfulnana, and that your ds seems to be on a healthier track. How sweet that your dd has a boyfriend, kitbop. Will he be joining your family for any of the festivities this weekend? Safe travels, justjac. Have fun getting together with friends this weekend. Say "Hi" and "Happy Easter" to your friends and family from me. When is your family getting together for Easter, nylene? Hope your meal prep is well underway and you have some time to relax and enjoy the family. We have a meatless day today. Salmon and egg salad buns for lunch and dh's sister is cooking a traditional Ukrainian supper at her house. I just have to get there in time to make and fry the potato pancakes. "My" Easter dinner is not til tomorrow. Still busy around here today. I have a layer cake in the oven for tomorrow. Still need to prep some salads etc for then as well. Turkey is out of the freezer. Dd & dgs arrived yesterday evening. Their tradition is that they "make" an Easter basket. This year he will be decorating a cardboard box with my scrapbook paper and supplies. When he has finished his daily oral reading with his mom, we will get started. He and Grampa already measured the box, so when dgs chooses the paper I can cut it to size. Is this your anniversary weekend, gramma? Did I hear that is is FIFTY YEARS for you? Will there be a family celebration? For our 5oth, we all went to Orlando for a week, spent the time in our time share where each family had a separate suite but we were all on the same hallway. In some ways that almost 4 years since then seems like an eternity, and some ways it feels like forever ago. Did you get married at Easter? I need details... Okay. Reading session coming to an end upstairs, so time for some Easter basket construction...

grammadee, sounds like you have a lot going. We are having salmon tonight too. It has tasted so good lately. Our Easter meal will be Sunday with Em and her family. Most of that is done, just needs to be put together tomorrow. My house is not in the best shape, but it's good enough and the kitchen and bathrooms are clean. Alex did some dusting for me this week...leaving much to be desired! LOL. So I will do a bit better with that before they come. joyfulnana, I am so glad you are finally feeling better. How great that your DS is doing well. DH has a friend in much the same position who is doing very well too. Sometimes it takes several tries to realize that this is a life-long journey, not a 30 day fix. Hugs to him and to you! Will you have Rudy for Easter? kitbop, how are you feeling and are you still testing positive? Our numbers are going up here, so we (DH & I) will still be masked. We are in the minority, however. I tried to follow your directions for hosting the crop, but will need to get on the phone with gramma to figure it out. Once I get the hang of it I'd like to host on some of the Saturdays. Oh, a boyfriend! Em's college DD also has a new boyfriend who came home last weekend. She's too young to get serious!! I hope she takes it slowly. Linda, your schedule wears me out just reading it. How do you have the energy to keep going? I'm loving all your pages this month. You are a speedy scrapper, but we insist you still be a Pokey pea. You didn't mention your DD and DS so I assume they will not be coming for Easter. When will you get to see them again? I'm sure you are missing them. gramma, I will need to get on the phone with you to figure out the hosting. I know how to set it up under my acct. but that will only allow one hour. kitbop gave me good instructions, but I can't seem to even get the gmail address to work. I should be on the crop tomorrow for at least part of the time. Thanks for helping your techno-challenged friend. justjac, I hope you have a good visit with your mom. Are things any better with your MIL? Have a safe trip. kellyr21, do you have Easter plans with family or friends? I hope you all have great Passover and Easter celebrations.

joyfulnana - Abby may not need frequent vet visits as she ages - LF (12.5) is the only one of our older cats that have. I think it can be luck of the draw whether they end with a chronic condition that needs monitoring or regular treatment or if they just age gracefully until the end. Midnight is 20 and perfectly healthy - just a bit slower than he used to be. I'm glad that you're feeling better and that your DS is doing so well. I'll continue to pray for him. I'll have to watch for your sketch - an 8.5x11 one will be a treat! kitbop - apparently I have you fooled. My sister works fulltime+ and she'll message me after work or on weekend with what she's cleaned, gardened, built, repaired, remodeled...and she can get more done before 9am on a Saturday than I manage all week. LF is 12.5 (the others are 20, 12, 12, 1 next week, and 1 in early May) How fun that your DD has a BF - I'm glad she's happy grammadee - I take tons of breaks while housecleaning and tend to focus on one area to the exclusion of others. I'm not nearly as good a housekeeper as you're giving me credit for. Have a wonderful weekend with your family. Looking forward to seeing easter basket construction on a layout. gramma -congratulations! Fifty years is quite an accomplishment! Have a wonderful celebration nylene - no, DS and DD aren't coming home for Easter and apparently they're planning a Spring celebration around the 1st of May in lieu of an Easter celebration. Traditions change, I guess. I'm not sure if we'll see them this year at all - we might go this summer but I don't know that we can responsibly leave LF home with just a cat sitter checking in once a day and DS may not be home much between deployments and school anyway so...we'll have to see. And I don't think they were planning on coming here at all. I do miss them but we chat on the phone a couple of times a week - more DS than DD - and on FB chat daily. We did an unscheduled IKEA run today so I've gotten nothing done otherwise. DD did do dishes and laundry while I was gone so that helps. Not sure what the plan is for tomorrow -I need to boil eggs so we can dye them in the evening and we'll do Easter Story cookies also. Roasting lamb for Easter dinner.

Happy Good Friday! Wishing you all a wonderful Easter weekend. My dhs career conference is this week so we will be preparing this weekend. We got to get a new computer and we have to send our other one in for repairs or a full refund. So glad we had a warranty. 🙂 Do you all watch Vicki Boutin's Friday Night Live on YouTube? I've been watching on and off this year and it's fun. Until my scrapbook mojo returns it feels good to stay engaged with her. nylene- We will probably go to church and get dinner from the Olive Garden. linda- I have never been to Ikea! We have so many big box stores here, I just never needed to visit. Maybe I will. gramma-Congrats on 50 years!😍 joyfulnana- So glad you are feeling better! Take it easy!🥰 kitbop- Your baby is growing up! A boyfriend! So cool! 😎 msliz- Waving hi!🙂

Happy Anniversary gramma! Wow 50 years! Congrats! Linda I hope Abby will just age gracefully lol. So far so good. This is the first time I've had a cat, and I'm so hypervigilant about any change in her behavior or routine that lasts more than a couple days lol. I ask her if she's ok a lot! LOL! I feel like some of the changes are because she's getting good and comfy here with me. I will echo everyone else, that you seem to be a dynamo! Even though you are debunking that lol. My place is neat enough, but definitely needs a good deep clean I never make time for. That's a bummer you won't have all the kids there for Easter. grammadee your schedule is just as busy as Linda's lol. I could never keep up with either of you! Awww kitbop it's so fun and cute when they start dating. A little scary for me too, since I have to hope I like the person they date if they stay together long lol. kellyr21 good luck to your DH! I know it's not great that your computer needs repair, but yay! for a new one! I keep thinking I'm going to watch some of Vicki Boutin's Friday night lives, but never do. I have a hard time watching videos because I always feel like I 'should' be doing something else lol. I wish I felt that way when I'm perusing online shops and filling my cart LOL! I have zero plans for Easter this year, Rudy will be with his mom. And he is getting a big surprise this year - he's going to have a half sibling! He's going to be sooooo excited when he finds out tomorrow! The timing couldn't be worse for his mom, (that's how babies are lol). She and her BF are just taking things to the next level and moving in together next month. So there is that pressure and now a baby in the mix. But both parents are very happy and excited and I hope they work out. He's a very nice guy and has mentioned getting together with Cody to reassure him he is not going to be trying to replace Rudy's dad. (ha! like that will ever happen). There will be 7 years between the kids, the same as mine are, so Cody will have a unique insight to help Rudy navigate that. I have what feels like a million things to do today before the crop, so I better get to it. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter holiday!

joyfulnana - I definitely have you all fooled -I take lots of breaks (and plenty of scrappy time too). I definitely could do more housework than I do but... Congratulations to Rudy on a new sibling - I have big gaps here too (8.5 years and then 6.5 years) - in some ways it's really nice because they were always at different stages. I need to get back to Easter cleaning in a few - just taking a short break with some diet dr pepper

gramma, congrats on 50 years. I'm glad you will get to be with friends and family at the end of the month. What are the plans for that? That's a milestone that not many people make anymore. I hope you have a wonderful get together. Please tell your DH that I think he's a mighty lucky guy to catch and hold on to you!! kellyr21, I hope Ron's event goes well and is well attended. Have a great Easter dinner out after church. Our church time is earlier now so we will be able to have lunch right at noon. I always love the Easter service put on by our choir. Our choir director is a fabulous musician and she can get such beautiful sounds from just a few ward members. I am always amazed at how they sound like a big choir, when there are maybe 15 or 18. Hugs to you and Ron. joyfulnana, how exciting for Rudy to have a new baby brother. He will be so loved by big brother Rudy. Alex is 9 years younger than his sisters. He was a big surprise! I look forward to the crop this afternoon, but don't really have anything ready to put together. It will just be good to see everyone again. Linda, I hope you get to see your out of state kids this summer. It's hard when they live far away. I miss Anj and family so much and they were here right after Christmas. I hope your Little Friend begins to feel better. You are such a great kitty mama. I hope everything goes well for your plans tomorrow. It will be low-key here with just 7 of us and Em's family spends enough time here that they don't even feel like company. I don't feel I have to do anything special, but relax and enjoy them. kitbop, have you met your DD's new boyfriend? Off to finish my last few preparations. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Hoping everyone enjoyed the weekend and is settling into this week nicely. How did your conference prep go, kellyr21? I like watching Vicki's youtube videos, but don't watch them all the time. She gets into my head and then I want to--as she says--"do all the things". It's fun, but since I already have trouble shutting a project down before it becomes an utter mess, sometimes her voice in my head is not helpful LOL. Especially since I have enrolled in Shimelle's Scrap a Rainbow series, so HER voice is in there too... Word of advice: don't go inside my head: it is a scary place! Linda, I love to hear about your holiday traditions. What did your family do this past weekend? Not sure when you are returning from your mom's, justjac. Hoping you had a great visit and that the drive back is/was uneventful. nylene, and kitbop, now that your guests have come and gone, how did the weekend go? I know your family celebration is next week, gramma, but will you be doing anything to mark your actual 50th anniversary tomorrow? Dd's family left yesterday morning and I have been doing precious little, since. One more day of leftovers for us today--turkey ala king--and what we don't eat of that will be frozen. My craftroom is more of a mess than usual after the invasion of the dgs for Easter Basket Construction. I started tidying, but then came across the materials I had pulled to put together a gift for our neighbour's baby. Not a new baby any more--7 months old already--but since I am decorating a shadowbox frame and putting together a page they can put a pic of him on for the inside, I guess I am still in the window. Started off thinking it would be baby themed, but now I am going with the little farmer motif. Afraid if I put it off too much longer though I will need to put away the little boy stuff and order some graduation supplies... Started on the frame today. I am altering a wood letter B for his name. First layer is drying right now, and then while waiting until dh gets around to getting the letter attached to the frame, I can work on the page. So far all I have done there is mess it up a bit with mixed media. But baby steps, right?

|
|
Post by Linda on Apr 19, 2022 16:56:31 GMT
I'm sure the frame will be awesome and the neighbour (and baby) will love it. grammadeeEaster - we coloured eggs and made Easter story cookies on Holy Saturday - oh and the hot cross buns I didn't have time for on Good Friday. On Easter DD15 hunted eggs and got a basket. We had a roast lamb dinner - lamb is our Easter tradition.

Happy Tuesday! Just popping in to wave hi. grammadee, the conference is this Friday. There will be smaller events all week with the conference capping the week. The conference will be virtual from 8am-6pm for college students looking to get into sports business. Ron's cohost got former NBA's Shaquille O’Neal "Shaq's" agent to be the speaker on Thursday and Friday! So we are busy and I hope it all goes well after all of my dh's hard work.

Hey pokey's (and the not even close to pokeys lol) It is so cold and rainy here today. Well, it was 56 degrees which should have been warm, but no sun and rain made it a cold 56! Ha and now I'm wondering why the US can't use all the same measuring systems as other countries lol. I heard Rudy's reaction to the baby news was "underwhelming" lol. He's excited and hoping it's going to be a brother, but I think we adults get this idea in our head of how he will react, and he never lives up to what's in our heads LOL! It's probably not possible lol. Good luck to your DH kellyr21! Is he in the sports business? How cool! grammadee I'll bet that gift is going to be wonderful! I can't wait to see it! Well, I have a pretty free evening and I'm heading off to scrap. I haven't got anything finished yet this quarter.

joyfulnana -I'm feeling called out, lol. I'm not surprised that Rudy is underwhelmed - babies aren't much fun for kids his age. I had a good day scrapping - and then did grocery shopping. We had Aldi's take and bake pizza for dinner - easy. Hoping to do another page or two tonight before bed.

joyfulnana , LOL on Rudy's reaction to new baby brother. Aren't kids funny? What we expect will get a big reaction, doesn't always translate to "kid". I know he will be happy when new baby arrives though. I'm glad you have a free evening to scrap. It's cold here too and we are expecting rain turning to snow tomorrow. Will Spring ever really come? kellyr21 , I'm excited about Ron's event. How many participants is he expecting. That's pretty cool to get Shaq's agent to speak. I hope everything goes well for him. Is it done through Zoom or some other platform? I am jealous of your warm weather. I'm sure it will warm up here before long. grammadee , your baby gift sounds so nice. I hope you will post it so we can see. What a sweet neighbor you are. I'm sure the family will be thrilled. BTW, somehow I think the inside of your head wouldn't be scary. I think it would be a pretty cool place to visit! LOL. I'm eager to see the Easter Basket construction. I'm sure you will make a page about it. Linda, you are on a roll with more pages. I saw that you posted more in the sharing thread. I'll get over there tonight to enjoy them. Did your older 2 have a good Easter and did you get to chat together? I'm sure they missed all your fun traditions. justjac , how was your Easter trip? I'm sure your mother was happy to see you. I have spent time today scrapping instead of straightening up after having company. It was a fun day, with no running around to appts. and shopping. DH has been asked to make 50 pens for a friend for Christmas gifts for his clients. We have made a lot of trips picking up pen parts and shop tools. That seems to take a lot of time out of the day and cuts into my important scrapping time! LOL

Good Friday morning, Pokeys. Well it is still morning for me.
Feeling kind of blah this morning. My English grandmother used to describe days like this "like treading through treacle", and I never knew what she meant. Well, it was before Google was born, and we had no dictionary at home, so it took me years to finally look up what treacle is... But even then I don't think I GOT it.
But days like this really DO feel like slogging through sticky molasses. And if I could decide on a direction I could maybe see some progress toward it, but I can't even really decide what it is I WANT to accomplish. Maybe if I ATE the molasses instead of trying to walk through it I would get a sugar high and be able to take on the world? Anyway I am having THAT kinda day.
I have some pages I want to put together, and some new products I want to play with, but can't come up with a clear idea of how I would do either one. My scraproom was a mess so I sorted and put away a bunch of stuff. And I started making a plan for what I will be scrapping at the crop next week, because I thought that was something I could do while I was waiting for immediate inspiration to strike. But even general planning seems to escape me right now.
On the bright side, I have a clean-ish scraproom. And a stack of sorted photos that maybe on a clearer-minded day I will be able to match with supplies to pack for the crop?
How is your Friday going?

grammadee - I think cleaning/sorting is an excellent use of time when your brain is stuck in low gear! I so know what you mean. I'm not feeling terribly chipper myself. The stress of work, neck pain (since covid. It's a pain in the neck hahahaha), and my Dad being sick has really taken away from my drive to do anything whether crafty/fun or necessary. I've even been skipping the gym more than normal just to come home and veg. My news: My Dad passed yesterday. It was expected yet sudden. He'd been in hospital 7 weeks and was dwindling. I knew he would die "soon" but we were doing paperwork for a nursing home as I was expecting months of cruel dwindling. He ended up aspirating and going into respiratory distress: I got a call at midnight about whether to take him to ICU and put him on a ventilator. So no sleep that night! When I got to work Thursday morning he was surprisingly chipper and content. Growled at me when I offered him water (he hates water). We actually got the formal POAs signed. I took him in some polygrip at 12:55 because he wanted to put in his dentures. Then we waved goodbye and I left to get some lunch. The social worker (a friend) walked into my office at 1:35 with the news. So the final ending was I guess blessedly quick, but it made it a shock as I had just talked to him. Kinda wished I'd stayed for a few more minutes, but I hadn't eaten anything and wanted to get my mask/shield off for a few minutes! Today we've found the will and taken a quick inventory of his place, and made arrangements for his internment. It's my first time at this rodeo, and I'm pretty clueless!!!
