I have soooo many completed pages that aren't in albums yet, but have not been scrapbooking in chronological order for quite some time. I can try to get the pages that are done in order and put them in albums, but there should be a lot more pages done in the next few years that will go in between those pages. Should I just get them in an album now and then at some point when I am "caught up" organize them? Or not even worry about if the pages are in order? Or some other option? I have albums for each child as well as a "family" album.

I used to scrap exclusively chronologically. Then I decided I’d play within a year, then a few years.
What I do is pop my layouts into page protectors and keep them together by year in loose chronological order until there’s a good enough sale and then I buy a bunch of albums and they live in there in loose chronological order.
When I’m close to finishing a year, I pull all the photos I have left and the albums and go through to see what needs to be done and what kind of layout it has to be. (Do I have a single page space or a double or even the back of a divided page protector?) Then, I make those layouts and my albums are done.

I've only been seriously scrapbooking since 2012 and everything is in chronological order since I scrap mainly project life. However, I have sorted my pictures that have not been scrapped into places. We did some moving so I have pre-marriage me (25 years), pre-marriage DH (32 years), West Texas (6 years), Georgia (6 years), Middle East (1 year), North Central Texas (3 years), Midwest pre-2012 (6 years). Once I get to the point of scrapping everything pre-2012 my plan is to just scrap by place, any order. Then I need to seriously consider a huge photo purge.
My biggest reason for not getting on this is a lot of those years were a combination of print and digital. I dread trying to combine the two and a lot of the digital is in multiple formats. It's daunting.

Although no longer scrapping chronologically, I organize albums in chronological order to determine progress. Since I use D-ring albums, I can easily move completed layouts as needed to accomodate future pages.

I don't scrap chronologically, but do loosely have my albums this way. When I'm working on a year where I haven't scrapped much, I will leave gaps of page protectors if I do a January page and then work on Christmas of that year.
I do use D ring albums for the ease of moving page protectors around, but am rethinking this and contemplating going back to post bound albums since they are not such beasts for people to handle and store.

My albums? yes with the occasional minor rearrangement to make one-page and two-page layouts play nice together. I don't scrap chronologically but I do order photos and slip them into page protectors in 3-ring binders in 'order'. Once the year is complete, then it'll move to an album(s).

I don't necessarily scrap in chronological order, but my albums are arranged that way. I use D-ring albums, so if I have extra pages to add between the dates that are represented in that album, I can just put in extra protector(s), swap one of the facing pages into a new protector, then add the extra page(s).
Sometimes I have so many pages from one event that all of those pages will be extracted from the chronological album they started in and move them into an album of their own.

They're in the correct year album but not by date. I should go rearrange everything into date order but the next time I add a page (today I had one from 2014...) it will throw everything off again. I will go back someday when I'm sure I'm sure I'm done with a particular year and chronologicalize everything.

For many years I scrapped chronologically so it was easy to keep my albums that way, too. Then I decided to scrap some older pictures and put them in my album as a little blast from the past layout here and there. But then it happened a little more often. So now I’d say my albums are mostly chronological. I’m fine with it. I’m not as rigid about things as I used to be.

You should do whatever works best for you.
Personally, I scrapbook in chronological order, by year - January to December. I've done it this way for 25+ years. Some years have two scrapbooks (Jan-June and July-Dec) because those years were busier. I very rarely go out of order, if I do it's because I don't want to break up a two page spread, and a random layout (photos/layout of cat) can fill in a gap and move ahead or back a week or two timing/date-wise to be a filler page.

Yes, mostly. This is the reason I put the date on every single layout now. I used to just put them in an album as I finished them. Then I tried to find a specific picture of my daughter to show a friend and had to go through eight albums to find it. It was frustrating, but I went through and reorganized all of the layout by date. For some, I had to guess. Looking at hair length was a big help for those toddler pictures. It's still hard to find a specific layout at times. Knowing the general year though at least gives me a starting point!!
In the beginning, I also tried to make sure all the pages were back to back. I think Shimelle said something in one of her classes while she was showing an album that made an impact on me. She has backsides showing and doesn't worry about it. She never considers an album "done" because there are always more stories to tell even if you don't have pictures or repeat pictures. Now if a layout goes smack dab between two other layouts in an album, I just slip it in a new page protector and don't worry about the back showing.

I don't scrap chronologically, I have an album for each person, and I just put the layouts in as I finish them. Lately, I've been thinking about going back to chronological because I have such a huge amount of unscrapped photos and I feel like it will help me "feel" like I'm getting a handle on them. Plus lilacgal brought up a good point about where to find a particular photo later. I always think of the year a photo was taken, not what album I think it may be in.

I scrap whatever I feel like but I store my pages chronologically. When I'm starting a new year I'll just leave gaps of empty page protectors between the earlier date and a later one, but as I complete more pages I'll start to see where the gaps are. When an album is mostly done I'll go through and see if I can remove some of those gaps, either by shuffling pages around or identifying where the gaps are and then going back to my photos to find a story to fill those spots.
I used to store my pages in the order I made them, but I hated not being able to find completed pages as it was much easier to remember a story came from 2015 than to remember when I scrapped it.

This how I do things, too. If I have to slip in a piece of paper to fill a blank spot, I just do that. It doesn't happen often.

My short answer, no!
I was never a chronological scrapper. I began in 1997 with pictures from my dd’s birthday and then just jumped around. I had tons of pictures and no direction. My earlier albums are pretty much chronological and I did try to maintain order until I realized that it was making me miserable. There are downfalls to being unorganized though…I’m scrapped the same picture or set of pictures twice. When I pull out older pictures to scrap (pre digital) I am never sure if I’ve done them before and it’s not an easy task to just check an album. Also, my albums aren’t labeled. My granddaughter’s albums are mostly chronological. When I decide to put away layouts (I usually wait until I have two Iris cases full, so 40 or more) I am usually just content having them in albums.

I was a chronological scrapbooker until 2015. 2015-2020 are just in random albums. Then I started project life in 2021 and I'm back to chronological.

I put my pages in albums as soon as I get home, and they are chronologocal to the extreme. It bothers me to have to move a single page before 2 pages and have it be out of order.
When I get my photos now I even put them in the album chronologically as well.

99.8% of the time yes.
I just put a bowling pocket page before a mini golf pocket page because I wanted a different pocketpage set up for each.
I also have the kids snow day 2 weeks another event. Again, type of pocket page I wanted.
I don't see it as a big deal as long as you date. Just enjoy the process and if that means taking some photos ajd scrapping...by all means do that!
Our craft shouldn't cause added stress.

Also if you mean starting in Jan and scrapping through December, no!
I go through my photo albums on my PC. Those are already in order.
Then I make a list of what needs to be scrapbooked.
Then I start putting F, B, F, B at the end. F means front, B means back. That way I know I am setting my pocket pages up right.
If I was doing traditional 12x12 or 8x12, I would just get the finished pages in protectors.

there should be a lot more pages done in the next few years that will go in between those pages. I'm in the same spot. I currently have about 15 pizza boxes filled with layouts - sorted by year mainly. When I buy new albums (I wait for M's to have a 50% off sale. It's so expensive) I empty a few boxes. But I never catch up! I don't necessarily scrap in chronological order, but my albums are arranged that way. I use D-ring albums, so if I have extra pages to add between the dates that are represented in that album, I can just put in extra protector(s), swap one of the facing pages into a new protector, then add the extra page(s). \ This is exactly what I do. My only problem is that if an album can no longer hold more layouts I have to move them along to the next binder, and then that one has to have some layouts moved along to the next binder.... If albums were affordable, I'd simply add a new binder to that year, but they are expensive!

Nope! I scrap what I want when I’m inspired to do so. And, I place pages in an album immediately, otherwise it wouldn’t get done. I have no interest in having empty albums sitting around with few pages waiting for me to fill them and I have no interest in having to reorganize my albums each time I fill an album. And honestly I enjoy viewing albums the skip around, each turn of the page a surprise and a new and different story. I don’t have enough time to scrap anyway and it’s supposed to be a hobby I do to get away from the grind, so I refuse to spend time doing things that get in the way of creating or that I don’t enjoy. If people want to experience my photos chronologically, they can visit my digital photo albums.

I scrap and store chronologically for the most part. I work on one month at a time and pretty much go in order (unless I'm tired of a certain sport and need to mix it up). My LOs go in albums in order, but I will move a single page to avoid an empty page unless it's very obvious that things are out of order. I don't like having empty page because I create so many LOs. There are photos I want to scrap, but if I don't do them in order I might never do them (especially sports because I take so many pictures.)

I have a few different things going on. I do have chronological albums (the pages may not be scrapped that way, but are stored that way) I also do the library of memories system ala Stacy Julian which is not about chronology but more themes I guess. All about us, People we love, Places we go and things we do. That encompasses everything and allows me to have the chronology my brain loves, with the deeper connections of the library of memories catagories.

Each album is labeled with the year I did the scrapping, not the year of the photos. I put a label on the back of each page that lists the year of the photos, the names of people in the photos and the fonts I used on the page. When I am long gone my kids can decide to put them in chronological order if they want. I think each of the kids will take the photos that pertain to them.

I put everything in one album. Finished and unfinished pages. It is in chronological order, but I don't scrap that way. I have 2017-2022 I need to scrap. Most of 2017 is done. Half of 2021 is done. I haven't even printed most of the photos. I tried the Stacy Julian method briefly by categories, but my brain couldn't think that way. I like to see the progression of the years.

Thanks, everyone! I will just do the best I can for right now. My friend and I have been scrapbooking a lot more this year. She printed the first half of pics from 2020 and started there, but I decided to work on the older pics that I already had printed. When I am done with those I will most likely focus on one theme at a time—Christmas, sports, etc and do the pages for the last several years so I am caught up with that. Otherwise I’m I’ll start with the most recent year and then go backwards. But hopefully it will be a little more organized.

Most of my layouts are in chronological order, but not all of them. I scrapbook mostly chronologically, but not always, and not strictly. If I feel like scrapbooking "out of order," then I do. If I find that I have the back of a layout showing, I just pick out a patterned paper that coordinates with the facing page and call it good. Then if I make a layout that fits in chronologically, I remove the patterned paper and slip in the layout. It's all good, and I don't stress over it.
