This term popped up on twitter this morning. On page 34 of the draft decision for overturning Roe v Wade in the addendum there is reference to a report from the early 2000’s that there were not enough babies to adopt.
So it would seem the shortage of “adoptable” babies in this country is being included as part of the justification to overturn Roe v Wade.
If it is being taken into consideration for the decision isn’t that the Supreme Court going where they shouldn’t be going to justify their decision?
The fact is not every woman should be a parent and not every baby put up for adoption is adopted.
Currently there are 400,000 children in foster care and there were 618,000 reported cases of child abuse in 2020.
How do these justices know by forcing women to have babies they don’t want or can’t have for some reason other then a medical reason they won’t end up in foster care or in a situation where they are physically abused? When there is every chance forcing women to having babies the numbers will increase.

There are thousands of babies to adopt! They just don't want the ones available.
They only want 'perfect' blonde haired, blue eyed babies. The rest will languish in foster care. The disabled will be 'put away'... So sad!!

This is where I point out that you have two very religious adoptive parents on the court.
I said this a few days ago—the imagined supply of adoptable babies is not going to materialize. Women will get abortions or will keep their babies—the majority of abortions are by women with kids. Those women are not handing over babies for adoption, and for the women who are not married, the social stigma of single parenthood simple does not look like the pre-Roe era.

Clearly these justices did read The Handmaid’s Tale, but instead of seeing it as cautionary, they view it as a guide to shaping the future.

the spanish inquisition "no one imagined the spanish inquisition!" are we now going to be living in a monty python skit?
I'd bet they ignore the truth of disabled children.. many of whom suffer sexual and other abuse.. or children of color.. ignored and not adopted.. foster kids.. the story today of a kid who has spent 13 yrs in foster care and is desperate for a family... no..don't pay attention to those children.

John Roberts. Who adopted Irish kids from Latin America, as best as I can tell.

It is an element that has always struck me that there's an assumption that one of the roles of pregnant women is to provide "perfect" babies to adopt.

So, as a leader who perceives himself to be in charge of the entire country, he's dealing with "supply chain issues" here.
Nobody is fooled by his thinly coded speech, either. We know he means white babies, probably boys, especially.
I am revolted.

I was also thinking Handmaids tale and wondering if human trafficking would also come into play with this description. Sounds pretty sickening considering how many will not actually be adopted especially those with disabilities or of color.
It just makes them sound like a commodity vs a baby.

This infuriates me in ways I can’t even express, even though I’m very familiar with this attitude in my extended family.
400K languishing in foster care. Conservative organizations preventing gay couples from adopting them in many cases. Just come right out and say that educated white women are not providing you with the perfect white babies you feel you deserve, and everyone will understand why you’re so opposed to education and careers for women.

They don’t want those babies. God promised them a healthy, white baby. 🤢

But obviously there will be more of those babies to. Its not only white healthy babies that will be effected. That term just sickens me. Supply. Seriously

They don’t care. An increase in the babies they want to adopt, and all those others are jus collateral damage. I hate everyone right now.

Wow. 😳 WTAF! They are getting quite comfortable with saying the quiet parts out loud aren’t they? Unbelievable. Shocking, actually. It really is like they’re using The Handmaid’s Tale as a how-to guide.

I was hanging out with my kid earlier today and they asked “what is a domestic supply of infants”? I asked for context…and then wanted to start banging my head against a wall. It is fucking insane.

That the Supreme Court is full of a bunch of fucking liars who blatantly lied so that they could criminalize having a uterus makes me want to subject those justices who lied re: their stance on Roe to a coat hanger up their private parts without antibiotics and we’ll just pray for the best when they are in infected and in pain.

I think-or at least it seems like-we have that right now. So many right wing comments are hammering home the fact that this is about so much more than Roe. I hope that the rage lasts. We are going to need it.

Just remember slaves WERE bred, and their children taken away and sold...
But the GQP doesn't want today's children to learn real history.
I am horrified to even have to think that!
