still wearing a mask? I'm fully vaccinated and have finished my chemo for breast cancer, but I'm on immunotherapy until the end of August, and that suppresses my immune system. My oncologist told me to keep wearing them at my last telephone appointment 3 months ago, and I haven't been told anything different since. I work in a doctors' surgery where we all wear masks. I wear a mask when shopping, in church and for all appointments. I've been out for one family meal 2 weeks ago without masks since this all began.
I just drove DH and one of his friends to their first meal out together in 2 years. The friend has been caring for his ex-wife through her own cancer and chemo, but she's finished now and he's been backing off and living his life. He was shocked, and apparently a bit offended that I handed him a mask to wear in my car.
I have my next oncologist's telephone appointment on the 19th May, and I'm definitely going to ask whether their instructions have changed since the last call. I hate this not knowing, but actually none of us really know, do we? Huh.

Covid has NOT gone away even if it is no longer in the news. I don't want to get it, and like you I take some immune suppressing meds. I expect to be wearing a mask for the rest of my life when I am out in public.

My elderly parents live in the U.K. My dad has been waiting for a hip replacement operation since October but it keeps getting postponed due to needing the ward for covid patients. He is currently immobile so my mum wears a mask whenever she goes out just in case she brings it home and he gets it. I’m in Tokyo and everyone wears masks all the time. It’s going to be really odd when we visit the U.K. in July and see massless people everywhere!

My DD (16) has no immune issues and wears her mask all the time. When I drop her off at school, I see most kids still wearing them. DD says like 70% still wear them at school, even though it’s totally optional.

I still mask and I just had COVID last month. Up until then, I wore a KN95 mask anytime I was around anyone—indoors or out, socially distanced or not. Then DH brought it home—the one person I didn’t mask around. I’m still masking when indoors, but not outdoors and I switched to a cooler blue mask. I’ll change back to the KN95s in 2 months when my immunity starts waning.

I expect to be wearing a mask for the rest of my life when I am out in public. It has NOT gone away. Vaccination has helped to protect us from hospitalisation and hopefully from dying, but it hasn't stopped transmission. And how well the vaccine has worked in people like us is a big unknown. We can't test for it, and we can't risk catching it just in case. The vast majority are living their lives again as if none of this had happened, and millions of us are still biting off all our fingernails every time we leave the house. Or I would be if the chemo had actually left me with any fingernails to bite... Hugs to you.

I still wear one when out and about. Partly because half my stops are at a medical office where it is required and partly because I have surgery coming up and don't want to deal with any illness between now and then.
I'm sorry and surprised your friend reacted so negatively to being asked to mask in a car, especially knowing your medical situation.

Nope, I had a hair appointment last Saturday and all of salon staff had masks on. I also wore one. Other customers did not wear masks.
Big hugs to you, it is still scary world out there for the immunocompromised.

I am vaxx'd and boosted and I still wear my mask in public. I'm still not going to large gatherings either.

I see lots of people wearing them inside stores and such. Not everyone, but a good number.

My DH and I mask, and most people in stores mask. (We still do curbside pickup for big shopping.) My hair stylist and the owner mask, as does my physical therapist, who requires all patients mask (she only sees one client at a time anyway). My LSS owner requires masks in her shop. Oh, it’s a requirement at my husband’s firm, and they only go in once a week; he works from home the rest of the time.
Your oncologist’s website might provide the latest rules about masking. All doctors’ offices and hospitals require masking in this area. I had to see an ENT recently and the only change is while they used to have you wait in the car and be called to come up, their waiting room is now open, but they’re scheduling fewer patients and people social distance.

Our mask mandate for indoors was lifted a month or two ago. I have still been wearing a mask when I go grocery shopping. I thought I'd be the only one, but there are always several other people wearing them. We're definitely in the minority though. We still have to wear masks in hospitals, care facilities, and on public transport.
A couple of weeks ago I had a BCC cut out from behind my ear, and a skin graft, and I can't wear a mask at the moment. The surgeon asked if I wanted him to write me an exemption form, but I didn't bother. I just told my boss that I wouldn't be coming into the office until it's healed. (I was only having to go in one day per week anyway.)
I can totally understand why you still want to wear one all the time. I would too if I were in your situation.

I wear one everywhere there are people i.e. stores etc.. In the last 10 days I've been to the hairdresser and optician and both insisted I wore one (I would have in any event) and every member of staff in both places wore one. I'm fully vaxed and boosted and expect to wear one for some time yet.
I'm sorry you've been made to feel unsure and uncomfortable.

I still wear one when I go shopping or to work. I don’t wear one outdoor, but I would if it was a very crowded area like a line at Disneyland. I still see about 20% of the shoppers wearing a mask, and the majority of the store employees still wear one.

I don't wear one when I go into a cafe/restaurant because I'm staying and taking it off anyway.
But I'm still wearing one in any store I go into.
I have too many weddings this summer to risk getting sick. According to the health unit I could still make the cakes, but I wouldn't be able to leave my house to deliver them. Huge problem!

I don't wear one all the time, but I do wear them in places where there are lots of people - like the grocery store, restaurants when not eating, etc - or if I'm somewhere for an extended period (like when I got my hair done last week). DH & DS do the same and DS still chooses to wear a mask at school. That said, we still all got covid a couple weeks ago.

Absolutely not. At our school It is optional except in our classroom and I would say about half the kids and teachers are still wearing them. When I go to the grocery store it's probably not 50/50 but close. I am wearing mine almost all the time. I don't mind it at all.

I'm still wearing mine at work and when I'm out shopping. I don't know what/who people have been licking.
I'm booked on a cruise in 16 days. I need to have a negative test to board. I'm not taking any chances.

I would still be wearing a mask but I had Covid right before Easter so I am allowing myself a break from them. Figure in a month or so I will mask back up again.

I'm still wearing one everywhere I go. Costco, grocery store, Target, library, school...Those are the places I go regularly. I'd say easily half to three-quarters of the people there are also wearing a mask. Our covid rates are up, more vaccinated people are getting it, and I don't want to take it to my 96-year-old mother. Not to mention that I don't want to get it myself. My dd had it and it took her at least two weeks to recover and she was fully vaccinated and boosted.

I wear one when I know I will be around stuff that makes me sick, like cigarette smoke.
I probably need to wear one full time given my issues this year.

Nope. Dd has a primary Immunodeficiency (cvid - common variable Immunodeficiency) and is on weekly IgG infusions. Ds is medically complex. I was born with a CHD and had surgery at age 3 and still have the VSD.
We mask 99% of the time indoors. Only time we don't is if there is no one around - very early grocery store run but mask up for check out, only ones in the museum, ds school with his 1:1.
We can not risk the lives of our family members. So we continue to mask.
Doesn't bother me as we do what we need to do.
I wish we could be maskless but the risk is too high.

DD and I continue to wear our masks when we step outside or if we're basically anywhere indoors. We got so used to wearing them to protect DH and it worked (as did our constant hand-washing and distancing, etc.). I have COPD and other compromising issues, so I'll continue to be careful. Sorry about your friend not being understanding! You've been through a lot and your health is very important right now. Prayers to you for continued health on the immunotherapy portion.
NO ONE should ask why we have a mask on!!

I never wear a mask unless I am visiting my mom in the nursing home. You will be hard pressed to find anyone wearing a mask in these parts. I just recently flew and was in 2 major airports. None of the airport/airline employees wore masks and very few passengers did as well. Thankfully my state has low positives and very low hospitalizations.
I never judge anyone for wearing a mask and feel it's an individual decision.

No. I mask at work and in stores. I will walk into a restaurant with a mask and take it off when it’s time to eat.
I was sometimes taking the mask off around adults at work, but now that covid is ramping up like crazy at the school where I work, I’m masking all the time unless alone.
I will probably always wear a mask when flying from here on out.

probably 80-90 % wear masks inside stores, etc. I wear mine when I go in shops, in church, etc. I would still wear one on a plane and in crowded situations. outside I don't. my son's wedding in 2 weeks is outside..and there will be wind. so I will feel ok for pictures and eating without a mask.

still masking here and DD15 is still wearing a mask to school - we've always been in the minority mask-wise but we also haven't had covid (we are vaxxed)
