I am looking for some new dinnerware. I have both Corelle (very old pattern) and some red breakable plates. I'd kind of like to replace the Corelle plates with another less breakable set. White is out and so are the geometric patterns. My new kitchen is very earthy with colors... hickory, smoky green, and a deep taupe. Any plates, brands, or websites you'd recommend for me to check out? I have looked at Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target, Walmart, and At Home. Lots of white! TIA.

Fiestaware! Very sturdy. I’ve had mine for 18 years and never chipped or broken any except one butter dish.

Have you looked through all the Corelle Vitrelle patterns already? (Vitrelle is the lightweight, almost non breakable line.) Three have brick and warmer colors, though backgrounds may still be white: Terra Cotta Dreams, Trellis and maybe Kyoto Leaves. Search function is on the top right of the page. And Solar Print has a mostly white background but what looks like sage green and gray leaves. www.corelle.com/search?qry=Vitrelle I think it’s much easier to find stoneware in warm or Tuscan colors, but it’s heavy and breakable.

My vote is for Fiestaware, too! I used to buy mid-range patterned dinner sets from Macy's, which I loved, but never for long as styles changed. Fiestaware is more timeless to me and if I get sick of a color I stick it away (actually pawn it off on my kids) and add in new. Love the serving pieces, too! I think we broke 1 bowl and that's including when I had a 4 kids at home.

I currently use a set of Corelle. I’m short (and old -ha) and can no longer lift heavy stoneware over my head to put dishes in the upper cupboards. I’m currently looking for dishwasher safe melamine dishes. I want something fun for the summer to use and take out on the deck to eat outside. I notice Kohl’s, Amazon and Home Depot online all have some nice sets. The only problem is that they are not microwave safe. I could totally see my DH forgetting and putting a bowl or plate in the microwave and melting it or worse!

I love my Fiestaware but it will definitely break if you drop it on a tile floor. It is very sturdy against chips and scratches, though.

I still love my Corelle, 30+ years old. Although I did recently buy a set of four Corelle appetizer plates, Star Wars themed. LOVE them.

Have you considered previously owned dish sets/plates? I found an incredible deal on the perfect dishes I was searching for on Ebay last year. We'd had our Mikasa stoneware set for 25 years and after all of that time several pieces were chipped. I was getting tired also of how heavy stoneware is, and wanted something lighter.
I looked at Corelle but knowing myself I didn't think I'd be happy with it. It felt "too" light. I'm very picky about my dinnerware and glassware. I don't like anything made in China. Searching for a new set that's not made in China wasn't easy, and yes I know Fiestaware is made in the USA, but again I wanted something different than stoneware. I decided to give Ebay a look.
I found a wonderful deal on a dinnerware set (service for 12!) plus 10 serving pieces in mint condition of porcelain made in Japan for only $195.00. I really loved the design-white with a swirl pattern. Because it doesn't have a metal rim (gold, etc) like some china it can be put in the microwave and in the dishwasher. We've been using this set for our everyday dishes since it arrived and I really love it. It's much lighter in weight than our previous stoneware-one of my favorite things about it. I've also been surprised how durable porcelain is.
While I realize you specified white is out, there are many choices on Ebay.

We went through a few different sets of stoneware and finally switched to Corelle. They have tons of colors and patterns and I like that they arent heavy.

If you're ever ready for good china, let me know. I keep meaning to sell my Royal Doulton/Royal Albert Old Country Roses set.
I also have a Mikasa set for the Fall, but it's only service for 4 (uneven set with a LOT of cups/saucers). That set is oven-safe, microwave-safe, etc.
Good luck with your search. Sometimes Kohl's has good sales on their sets. Also, you might hit it right at Homegoods and find dishes there. That's where I got a big set of Easter dishes, etc.

Can you be a Pea and not have Fiesta? Apparently the answer is Yes. I have none. It is too heavy for me.

What about Sur la Table or Crate and Barrel? Not the cheapest, and they have a lot of white but also other colors. I’ve bought plates at C&B that I liked a lot, but they change colors and styles often so it’s more one-and-done and not dinnerware you would get replacements for later.

I have good china. I was married in the 80's and my mom thought that I needed 13 sets! We used it for Thanksgiving this year since my son's fiancé asked to use the good stuff. I really just need super sturdy stuff for every day.

I’m not a fan of Fiesta (though I don’t think I’d ever heard of it before 2peas) - I think the bright colors would be pretty for a summer party but really not my style for every day plates.
I like the various neutrals at Crate and Barrel. I also like fun accent pieces (dessert plates etc) from Anthropologie.

If the dish cannot go into a microwave, I don't want it in the house. Too many mistakes could be made (as noted in a post above).

Have you checked out Crate & Barrel? Their Hue line colors might work for you.
Macy's is another place I always check out for dinnerware as they carry such a wide range. I'd look at Noritake Colorwave lines, Denby Heritage Orchard or Portmeirion.
