Not cool. He is the one in the limelight, and I don't think his clothes should be picked apart, let alone his children.

Their skirts were a little short, but they still looked nice. What an awful thing to say about them, especially publicly.

I didn't like it either, and I'm glad she resigned. I was dragged along to company events when I was their age and I'm sure the length of my skirts was fodder for comment (it was the seventies, LOL). But I didn't have to read about it all over the media. Leave the girls alone.

She was totally out of line. I read what she said and the First Family are off limits. Period.

Also agree that kids should be off limits.
I thought they looked fine, a little teenage boredom maybe not worthy of her rant.
She did apologize and lost her job which I think is appropriate,
But I don't recall the same outrage over Melissa Harris Perry mocked Mitt Romney's grandson over there at MSNBC - she should have lost her job too but she got away with bad behavior. I wonder why.

Anyone who has to pray in order to figure out her words were 100% inappropriate has no business being anyone's communications director. ETA sorry about that. Here's a link to a different article that has the actual quotation about praying. I had already read this one and didn't click on the link in the OP before posting. Huffington Post

Well, she gets what she deserves. It's just plain DUMB to publicly say anything nasty about the president's kids. Duh. Think whatever you want, but to say it? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I don't understand why they can't all leave the kids out of it.

It's ugly no matter who does it. But there's also a difference between media people like David Letterman and Glenn Beck (read the article in the OP), and someone who speaks for a Republican politician or the Republican party itself.

I think it was totally rude, but the people who mind the president should have seen that those children did not want to be there and suggested that they be allowed to leave (or not attend in the first place.) It really looked to me like Sasha and Malia had told whoever that they didn't want to go, and that they were told too bad, you have to go.
They look like any eye-rolling teenager. Just because they are the President's children doesn't magically make them wind-up dolls.

We will have to agree to disagree. Someone like Letterman who is on TV 5 nights a week with millions of people watching should not be making fun of presidential or candidate's children or anyone elses children for that matter. Letterman probably has a much bigger voice than the lady who made the comments about the Obama girls. There are probably very few, if any, people on the board who even knew who she was until she acted stupid. And, yes, it is ugly no matter who does it and what their political affiliation is.

I watched the video and saw a bit of eye rolling at not so funny jokes and being offered to pet a turkey. They didn't look miserable and I don't think their skater dresses were too short.

I was merely pointing the the hypocrisy of MSNBC who cites examples of bad behavior of those in media that are right leaning but fail to hold Harris Perry to the same standard. I guess the high standards they hold for other media outlets don't apply to them.

This is the US' First Family. You are welcome to hate his politics, the colour of his skin, the way he styles his hair anything, but he is still the Sitting President.
Anyway I sound like a dweeb but taking pot shots at his children is just wrong on all levels.
I will get off my soap box as this really rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize but dissing someone's children, no matter who they are, is wrong.

They were talking about this on CNN yesterday I think. I watched the girls during that I time and it made me laugh. Those girls were typically teenagers-forget for a moment that their father is the president-but that he is just plain old dad, making corny jokes and talking about a turkey like it is a big deal. They grimaced, and rolled their eyes and you could hear them thinking "He is SUCH a dork."
It was so normal that it was refreshing. They were just teenagers, who were reacting to their dad.
The staffer's comment was just not right. These kids are just kids, and didn't deserve to be targeted the way they were. It baffles me when moments of innocence are turned in politics used to bash the other side.

She said:
Dear Sasha and Malia: I get you're both in those awful teen years, but you're a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play,"
And also:
"Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar," NBC News reports.
I believe there was more but of course she deleted it

I don't know who dreamed up "pardon the turkey" but that person should have had their head examined. I roll my eyes every year when the "press event" is put before us. yuck.....
