I feel like I've vented a lot recently. I want to flip that. I placed an online order from IKEA for pick up. Wow! I placed my order at 9 pm and picked it up the next day at 11 am. The employee helped me load it in my SUV. It was awesome! A wonderful Pea friend, who doesn't like to be named, picked me up at the airport on Monday. Now THAT is a friend! Another Pea, KelleeM sent me the most beautiful card. What a great surprise in my mailbox. She's amazing.

We needed a new water softener installed. After waiting weeks for a call back from a plumber we have used before, I contacted another plumber, had the job scheduled for 3 days later, and it was done. I know who we'll be calling next time we need a plumber. I just wish they could do all the other kinds of work we need done around here!

We completely landscaped our entire front yard because we had a new sewer line put in last fall. All of the plants are surviving despite my black thumb and it is so satisfying to see our grass coming up. Almost our entire front yard was ripped apart. And we had to reseed the whole thing.

A large part of our suburb suffered from a downburst. Electricty was out for 18 hours and many trees destroyed. We had nothing at our house, only about a mile or two away.
The heat is incredible right now and we still have power and AC.

My new floors came out beautifully. They cost a pandemic price of course, but they are gorgeous.

We finally have a fly date for returning to the US! We will fly from Ramstein to Baltimore, visit our DD who is in grad school there, pick up our Jeep at the port, and drive to Minnesota. Tomorrow we start making appointments for shipping the Jeep back, or household goods, unaccompanied baggage, make lodging reservations, … so it all begins! I’m not looking forward to the task, but I’m happy to finally have a date when people ask.

We had a stone border put in around the front and back of our home, and pavers installed in the front and back entrances. They did such a beautiful job, and each day the landscaper owner came to oversee the workers at the start and end of the day. I overheard him praising the workers in such a kind way — what a great guy to work for.

The container with our belongings arrived last tuesday. Family and friends helped unload it, moved over 70 huge and heavy totes plus furniture into our apartment that is on the 2nd floor (third floor for american readers). New furniture assembled with the help of the same group of people. More appointments and more furniture to put together in the future, but *fingers crossed*..... so far, so good!

My backyard died, I mean totally, over the winter. I am working at getting it to look better. Someone in town posted on fb they had 4 rolls of sod leftover, so i went and got them for free.
It doesn't fix the backyard, but it is a start.

Great thread! I love reading about things that went well or turned out positively for people!
I am working on scanning photos from a gazillion plastic sleeve photo albums and have about 10 to go. I grabbed the biggest one yesterday and resolved to get that album scanned in before getting distracted by something more fun. It turned out that I already had a folder of those photos saved on my hard drive. I didn’t realize they had already been printed from digital. Yay!
Side note - they’re from 20ish years ago when I first got a digital camera. I still printed all my digital photos to put in those old plastic sleeve albums, scrapped very few of them, and looked through the albums of printed photos even less. Now I’m going back through all of those albums and getting rid of them. Our digital organization was abysmal and I’m not sure I have all the digital files so I’m scanning all printed photos. Such money and time wasted!

Our really old AC system died right before we left town to drive to Georgia. On the hottest two days we've had in awhile. ugh My dh kept talking about how such-and-such part wasn't spinning, or this and that didn't do xyz... whatever. Fill in the blank with things he really knows nothing about. I waited till the last couple days of our trip to Georgia before I called because I didn't want to tell the repair place that we were out of town. Scheduled an appointment for two days after we got back. Dh kept saying to me "be sure to mention to the guy that the blah blah blah doesn't do xyz". . I kept saying "uh huh and how about we let the expert figure out what's wrong with it?" sheesh Anyway, dh was convinced it was going to need to be replaced completely since it's so old. That would be big bucks. The guy arrived, spent about 20 minutes outside with the unit, came in to report that there was a mouse nest inside the unit and the mice had chewed a wire. Presented me with a bill for $149.00. Whew.

I made it back to the US without testing positive for covid (many at the dive resort where I stayed were not so lucky) nor suffering from the 'runway issues' recently experienced at the Roatan Airport.

I have so little to complain about. Really need to keep that in perspective.
We just drove to and from Chicago (12-13 hours in each direction) to pick up our youngest (the sweet curly haired one in my profile pic) from her sophomore year in college. Her first year was a disaster - caught covid 5 days in, placed in isolation and this was when covid was really scary - no one knew what they were doing and she was seriously in isolation. Didn't know anyone there, didn't know how sick she'd get, didn't know what to do - it was nightmarish. Spent 10 days in isolation and came out a different kid - temporarily. She finished out the rest of her year from home with post-covid complications.
We brought her back in September, fingers crossed the whole way that she'd make it through the year - and she made it. Squared. Made friends; is now running the student run theater company; stage managed several shows; LOVES her classes - is double majoring in theater and English Lit; has a 3.9 GPA - I mean, it couldn't have gone better. We had more confidence in her than she had in herself but now she's feeling like she can do anything.
We spent the ride back talking about what a difference a year makes. A year ago we had no idea if she would ever even feel better and then she succeeded more than we ever hoped.

My dad moved my water heater outside my house and had to run all new cold water, hot water and gas lines. Remarkably there wasn’t one issue! The best part is it only cost me $1,500.😁
My dad is amazingly skilled!

I had a very cool encounter at TJMaxx a few days ago. I was looking at the beauty products for an eyebrow pencil when a woman in her late twenties started rifling thru the lipsticks next to me. (I am fair, with rather full lips that are a darker pigment than one would expect. I am blue eyed with light brown hair and much to my Color-Me-Beautiful consultant mother's confusion, I turned out to be an early winter colouring compare to all of my spring siblings and mother -Hello why I always looked awful in our Easter photos with pastel dresses.) So, the woman was scooping up a lot of lipsticks and caught me looking at her curiously. She showed me that they had just got in a bunch of MAC and NARS lipsticks and said she liked to give them as gifts. She asked me which colours I gravitated towards, and I told her I keep things fairly neutral, but that I sometimes like a bolder lip when dressing up. Since I had my mask on, she asked if I would quickly drop my mask for her to see me. She was surprised by my darkly pigmented lips and asked asked if I had ever found any bold colours that worked on me. I told her to get a dark colour to work I had to look for brands that cater to more ethnic colouring. She hands me 2 neutral coloured lipsticks and tells me both will look good on me, and we separate. I'm thrilled!
A few minutes later she finds me elsewhere in the store and says she has a few more lipsticks she wanted me to look at. Turns out she is a make-up artist that works on films and lipstick is her thing! She was bound and determined to find me the perfect dark lipstick. 😀 She talked about my unexpected colouring, and how the right red would be hard for me to find. So instead she gave me a purple that really looked dark, and took back one of my neutrals and gave me a different one. We chatted a bit more and I went off to purchase my 3 lipsticks.
You guys, she knocked it out of the park. I love all three, and the purple one caused my Dh to do a triple take. He couldn't stop looking at me. ☺ I wore it when we went to dinner last night and the waitress commented on it and later asked for another customer what colour it was.

My recent foot surgery is healing on schedule. I got out of my boot as planned, just in time for vacation. 6 weeks, right on schedule. That’s the only good thing lately, and it has definitely made life easier.

I'll play! I traveled from CA (CAlifornia) to CA (Toronto, Canada) on Thursday. 2 flights with zero issues. Despite it taking 1.5 hours to get through Customs (a huge issue in international airports worldwide, I'm told) our flight did not have to wait on the tarmac before taxiing to gate. Some do so for 3+ hours causing all sorts of grief. Second and far more important victory: My mum, 90, who almost died in January, is doing terrifically well, puttering in her garden (house I grew up in) and cooking, etc. She's back! We got super lucky.

A few months ago we ordered a big comfy mattress and then had to cancel the order. This week I was able to re-order and I can't wait for my new Sleep Number bed. My yds who never has time to come home was able to come home for 2 weeks. It's been delightful to have everyone home.
flanz , that's wonderful news about your mother. Thank you for this thread mikklynn .

After spending her last year of elementary school doing virtual school at home, my kid sailed through her first year of in person middle school without a single hitch. She made new friends and participated in a bunch of after school clubs. She ended the year on the honor roll with a straight A average and was accepted into the honor society for her school. DD has jumped right into the volunteer requirement with gusto and is really enjoying that a lot more than I think she thought she would. 😊 Life is good!

We finished landscaping our back yard yesterday. Well, no plants until next spring but the yard was seeded in May and looks fantastic, We made a large mulched bed and put in pavers for stepping stones to get through it to the other side. We built our house in 2021 and it feels so good to have the outside looking good. No more mud to deal with.

maryannscraps , this is the colour! Nars Soul Train And bonus, I only paid $4.99! I know it looks pretty shocking for a fair, blue eyed, light brown/dark blonde. It doesn't read quite as dark on me as the model.
