Just curious who has it off of work since I am the only person I know who is working that day (prek teacher). My family all made plans to have a picnic together on Monday afternoon and I was all offended that they were doing it on a day that I clearly had to work. I thought someone should have notified me in enough time to take it off. I was talking to my mom this weekend and she told me everyone has it off since it is a federal holiday. Obviously I understand stores and hospitals and such will still be running as they always are on Federal holidays. My family members that are going are either students or people that work in schools or state offices or for the government. They were all stunned that we were open that day. Normally we're in a public school and obviously the public school will be closed tomorrow, but for summer we operate in a separate building.
Just curious who has it off is all. Not judging or complaining. Just curious.

Government offices, State, county and local etc were closed in the State of New Jersey yesterday, Friday. NJ made the holiday before the feds. NJ will celebrate the third Friday in June every year..
I got notices from two banks that they will closed Sunday.
Our local schools will be closed, Monday. No mail, no federal activities around here... That make Juneteen, June 19th, a floating holiday... Same date but different day every year.

I'm retired, so I don't have to work all days! lol Family all work in jobs that do not take that into consideration such as medical, retail, so I can't compare to them either, but do know that only about 1/2 of the states recognize the holiday as far as a paid holiday. A large downtown park is having a celebratiom that started on Saturday and will run until end of day tomorrow.

Dh works for the federal government so yes they have it off.
Our schools just got out for the summer so we're between regular school year and summer school... So nothing is happening next week anyway.
Dd works for a private organization and they have it off.

It is not a holiday in my state, so no, I do not have it off.
If I did, because it falls on a Sunday, we'd observe on Monday. If it fell on a Saturday, we would get 8 floating holiday hours; we would not observe it on Friday.

Nope. The only people I know who get all federal holidays off are people who work for government or unions.
(MLK Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Juneteenth are the ones that the average worker doesnt get off)

We do not have it off... but to be fair i work in a factory that doesn't celebrate very many holidays...
We get a week off at Christmas, the Thursday for Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday... all other days if your scheduled to work you get double time pay... but if you dont go in you get double occurrences...

I’m self employed and behind on a deadline, so I won’t be taking the day off.

Yes, I work for a state university. This is only the second time we’ve had off for it, though.
While we get MLK day off too, we don’t get Columbus Day, Veterans Day or Presidents Day.

I work for local government and do not have the day off. In fact, I don't actually know anyone in real life that does have the day off.

There are no holidays where I work. Holidays are usually our busy time. Employees who are not customer facing usually take the day off, but we have to use PTO.

Private school - we're on summer break, but the admin and support staff who work over the summer have the day off, and the building will be closed.

My school district belatedly declared it a holiday after planning PD sessions on Monday that now have to be rescheduled (or, in my case, moved to a local church). LOL

I work for a food manufacturer and it is not a holiday for us. Our plant runs 24/7, usually 363 days a year, depending on demand. Those who work holidays get double-time pay, plus holiday pay. so essentially triple time. Most team members don't mind working holidays because of the $$$. The only days we can reasonably be sure the plant won't be running are Thanksgiving and Christmas. Salaried employees get New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for holidays, plus 2 floating holidays. Hourly employees work 12 hour shifts and their holidays are slightly different but in the end they get more holiday hours than salaried employees.

My University is off that day. It’s also WV Day, which used to be a state holiday, but we haven’t had that off for a few years. We get the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday instead. This year we havd 12 paid holidays scheduled, and Juneteenth now makes 13. We also get the two election days in even years.
So basically, we have an abundance of holidays!

There won't be classes those days but offices are still staffed for walk in traffic.
