umm...other - I have a file box with embellishments sorted by theme, I have those little photo boxes that hold 4x6 photos - holding small non-themed embellishments (sequins, brads, random stickers/die cuts/ephermera) by colour and I have a drawer with 12x12 sticker sheets from collections where I've already used all the paper (and those are all EP/CB/PP)

Most of my embellishments are organized by theme. I have boxes of winter, beach, zoo etc. I also have boxes of random embellishments that are by color.

Other - most of my embellishments just live in a mess in several drawers. There is no organization!

I'm pretty matchy-matchy I have clear cellophane bags (approx 13"x13") and when I buy a collection of stuff, I put the 12x12 paper and embellishments together and store them upright in my Kallax. For those embellishments that came in the packaging with the clear bubble box in the front, I transfer those to a flatter small clear bag and save the cardboard back with it if it had the little index images on the back. Given that's most of what I purchase now, I chose organizing by manufacturer/brand. And actually now that I think of it, I started doing this a long time ago. So for my Graphic 45 or Basic Grey collections that I have embellishments for - I keep them together in the cello bags by collection. For my older embellishments that aren't part of a collection, I have them upright in a couple of a baskets so I can flip through or in a card display spinner so it's easy to see them. They aren't organized at all and I can flip through pretty fast, but they could stand to be organized by theme at some point.

Loose embellishments are stored by color. I tend to keep 12x12 and 12x6 sticker sheets intact until almost used up.

I chose theme in the poll, but it's really both theme and type. I store them by type (all die cuts together, for example) but sorted by theme within type.

I picked color but really I do color, theme and manufacturer (with a collection) all pretty evenly.
1. Theme- all themed supplies go together. Most of my theme are pretty broad, ie "outdoors" has weather, plants, camping, etc.
2. Collection- if I have papers embellishments stay with the collection. If I use all the collection but I have other collections with the same manufacturer that kinda coordinate I will keep it all together.
3. Color- everything else goes here. I will cut up enamel dots/bling so that I can sort by color. All embellishments are together in color bins.

I do some embellishments by brand, some by theme, and some by type.
Die cuts and stickers belonging to one line stay with the manufacturer paper in a 2 gallon bag.
I have two drawer units that hold other kinds of embellishments. I have drawers for each of these: enamel dots, gems and sequins, wood pieces, washi tape, bakers twine and ribbons, tags and other layering pieces, stickers that don't belong to a particular collection, tiny alphabets and phrase stickers, etc. Basically anything that doesn't have to match a particular manufacturer goes in a drawer.
I also have a few bags by theme: music, sports, etc.
So I guess I'm all over the place.

Kinda depends who embellishment it is, lol.
Chipboard? sorted by theme. Paper Clips? All together. Stickers? I dont have many and they are sorted by type (word strips all together) or by theme (birthday all together). Enamel dots? All together.

Mine are mostly sorted by collection. I used to have them in drawers by type, but now they are all in large zip top bags with the coordinating collection. For some topics (summer and camping come to mind) I have a bunch of collections mixed together into big kits--the coordinating embellishments are also stored together with those kits. Other random embellishments (Studio Calico, Elle's Studio and Freckled Fawn purchases, enamel dots, etc) I keep in zippered envelopes in my crop bag to pull out and use on layouts when the need arises.

I'm pretty evenly split between type and colour. Things like brads and enamel dots are sorted first by type and then by colour, while things like stickers and die cut packs are broken down to single pieces and stored by colour with no further organisation.
I do have a couple of themes (travel, Christmas, birthday) and store all the embellishments for that theme together irrespective of type.

Those who store their embellishments in baskets or other containers - what containers do you use & recommend? I’m starting the long process of actually organizing my stuff. It’s currently just chucked in a couple of clear totes.

Flat pre-made diecuts and stickers organized by theme in binders.
Lumpy generic embellishments like brads, flowers, and ribbon are sorted by color in gallon bags. They are stored in a basket.
Lumpy themed embellishments are in Iris cases.

I put mine in baggies, and clip them to a 4 tier carousel shoe tree. I can turn each tier and see them easily to choose what I want. However, the shoe tree system doesn’t hold all of them, so buttons are in a drawer, and larger sheets of rhinestones and pearls are in another drrawer.
So I guess you could say that my embellishments are partially organized, but not any of the ways listed above.

This is really entertaining! It's always fun to see all the different methods everyone uses to corral their supplies. I voted "type" since I keep most of my embellishments grouped that way: enamel dots & washi tape (I don't have many tapes) share a plastic container; buttons, flowers, and ribbon each have their own plastic container - either Rubbermaid shoebox sized or Artbin satchel totes. Well except for the ribbons that I have in little cardboard miniature suitcases. And brads & eyelets are in a flat divided container (maybe meant for jewelry making supplies?) Stickers are generally by theme stored with that theme of pp. Alpha stickers have recently been stored in those tall sticker organizers from sb.com. Other stickers that fit more than one theme or category are just, well, everywhere. Laurap, you may have the right idea!

Thanks for your responses &/or participation in the poll. I primarily organize embellishments by type (e.g. enamel dots together, tile letter stickers together), then subdivide by manufacturer. ETA: Those who store their embellishments in baskets or other containers - what containers do you use & recommend? I’m starting the long process of actually organizing my stuff. It’s currently just chucked in a couple of clear totes. Note I don't use many embellishments, so have relatively few to organize. Most of my flat embellishments hang on a (discontinued) Clip-It-Up, while all others are stored in 4x6 Iris photo cases (e.g. chipboard pieces, ephemera/diecuts), fridge bins (e.g. enamel dots, dies, photopolymer stamp sets), a magazine-style paper holder (i.e. 6x12 & 12x12 sticker sheets), two locker baskets (i.e. Thickers), & a divided Artbin Solutions Box (i.e. shapes stamped/punched/diecut from small scraps). HTH & you find an organizational system that works for you.

Other: dd, ds, Christmas/Winter, fall/Halloween, summer, dog.
Dd's embellishments are in her Iris paper container, ds' are in his, winter/Christmas in theirs, etc. Just summer and dog are out on top of the stack of 12x12 paper Iris containers.

I use all of the options for storing embellishments. Some are stored with the paper line/brand, some by theme (ex. Christmas, Autumn, Travel, school), some by type (ez. Ribbons on cards, brads, eyelets, labels), some by color (ex. buttons, gem clips, loose ribbon). I wish there was a definitive way to store embellishments, but I haven't found one that works for me.

My embellishments are organized by color. Even if they are a single category such as labels or enamel dots, I arrange them by color within that container. I'm always thinking I need something blue there when I'm embellishing so by color works best for me.

I voted by type, but really I should have voted by theme, then type. Sticker sheets and chipboard live with the paper collections, but grouped together (ie all my fall sticker sheets together, all the fall chipboard together). I will mix and match these on layouts, so it works best if I can just flip through the sticker sheets all at once.
For embellishments that didn't come with a collection, those are sorted by theme. Themed collection brads are stored together, wood veneer stored together, enamel dots together, etc).

Those who store their embellishments in baskets or other containers - what containers do you use & recommend? I’m starting the long process of actually organizing my stuff. It’s currently just chucked in a couple of clear totes. I think the right solution for you will depend on what those containers are going on. A bookcase, a desk, a cube oranizer, etc? A very economical solution I have used is the clear plastic shoeboxes from The Container Store. They can hold 6x6 pads as well. I decided to use these as a cheaper alternative to the fridge bins a lot of people use. Bonus, they have a lid and are stackable, so if it's an item you aren't getting into very often, you can stack another bin with more frequently used items on top. They make a normal and a deep size (I think for boots). I now use these cloth bins I found at The Container Store, called a 3x2 storage bin. The picture doesn't do them justice, they are a rectangle, not a square. They are pretty sturdy, but I'm very careful when I pull my stamps out so I don't get a floppy front to the bin. www.containerstore.com/s/storage/cubes-cubbies/12d?productId=11010822I actually preferred the clear shoeboxes, but I moved my scrapping space into a shared space, and wanted it to look a little prettier. Okay, the real truth is I didn't want people looking at my goodies and thinking I'm a hoarder. I really do need 8 summer stamp sets to make one summer page. 🤣

I’m leaning towards something like this. My storage unit is a former entertainment center that our neighbors gave us when they moved. Tons of shelf space so I’m excited. I pulled all my stuff out yesterday - much of which has been packed up for 4 years or more…and I had the exact same thoughts about people thinking I’m a hoarder! I counted close to 20 empty albums…stuff just kept coming and coming out of the plastic totes.

I organize mine by type. IE all labels go into the label bin, all circles go into the circle bin, all nature-animals, flowers, etc go into the nature bin. eta that I forgot to put the type of bin I use. I got the idea off of a lady on instagram. I don't remember who she is or I'd tag her. She used the wine insert for the kallax & then used the long, narrow fridge bins with a lip for ease of grabbing it.
The only time I scrapbook by theme is when I'm doing a travel or Christmas album.
I spend a lot of time rifling through each bin. I've come to realize it's cathartic for me to do it & I'm not bothered about it.
I tend to scrap by shape rather than a specific item. If I'm scrapping one of my kids doing an activity, what would look better in that spot? a label or circle shape? Then I'll go to that bin and find whatever saying/image matches what I'm scrapping. If I can't find anything, I'll make it myself.

I organize by type in a particular location, but within that drawer, cart level, shelf, etc (whatever the place may be), they are then subcategorized by manufacturer alphabetically. It works for my brain, and it helps when quickly locating something to use. It also helps reduce my temptation to leave something out😈, because it already has a very specific home, so less of an excuse.
