So I was going through my Disneyland Vacation album from 2004 looking at what Jolee's products I used (Mickey and Minnie) and came across a super old trend - hinges!!
I have hidden journaling and additional photos that you can flip over using a hinge that is secured with brads and eyelets.
Holy pop, I totally forgot about that trend.
There was also a paper pierced Goofy from Pirates of the Caribbean.
Mickey balloons that are shakers.
Ribbon.
Rub-ons.
Paint chips from the home improvement store!
Torn paper with inked edges for distressed look.
Beads.
Buttons.
Who else used these? What other older trends did you use? Do you still use any of these trends?

I took a class and we made one in class - it was fun and I used that one but never made one again after that Rub Ons - yes Torn Paper - yes, I still like torn, distressed paper EK Success Paperkins - man I loved those things - I used them quite a bit. I love looking at my pages that have those. Shaped scissors - I used them a lot in the early days. I especially seemed to have liked the scalloped edge one, it seems

Jolee's - never liked them Hinges - used a couple for decoration only brads - yes, will still use but only if I can't find something easier (enamel dots, or stick-on brads are so much simpler!). Remember when Bazzill made the BIG brads? I still have some. eyelets - yes, still own but rarely use. Probably mainly on tags where I used to use them for lacing too Ribbons - have enough to tie a bow around the earth. Rarely used, but won't get rid of them. Paint chips - borrowed lots from the store and I don't know if I used them once! Paper Piecing - not often Beads - I have some but came in kits or sets, not used Buttons - yup. Still enjoy them sometimes. Shakers - I've made a few for cards. They are cool but time consuming Rub ons - used, but find frustrating if they don't work perfectly. Instead, I rub them onto a piece of paper and fussy cut it out! Torn paper - wait. This isn't on trend??? Paperkins - never Shaped scissors - the dies and punches are so much better, but I still have mine Other trends: wire (people would bend coloured wire and add some beads sometimes) Prima flowers (I used them but they weren't my style; still have them) Flare (loved these but so sad that most are rusty) Fibres (yuck) Wood veneer (SO popular until the past few years. I never use these anymore) Shaped cardstock/pp (circles, scalloped squares, etc) Foam stamps by MM and messy stamping with acrylic paint

Shakers have seemed to make a resurgence. WRMK has a lot of dies right now.
Brads; love the mini size and still use them. Never got into eyelets. I still love ribbon. I haven't used rub-ons much. Paint chips, I used a little. I couldn't ever get a cool looking torn edge. I still like to ink edges. I don't remember using beads. I like buttons, but they were a bit too bulky for my style. I did use a few that I think I got from Stampin' Up that were a bit flatter. I do have button dies. I like hinges, not the metal ones, but I have dies for those too. I never got into hidden journaling. I liked paper piecing, did a few but they took too long for me.
I actually have a couple of Jolee's for my daughter's WDW trip I'm going to use.
In general, I don't use embellishments much though, I need to remember to do that more.
ETA: I'm still holding onto a few MME paper diecuts that I do love.

Jolee's -loved but used sparingly due to cost - still use
Hinges - nope
brads - yes and still use Remember when Bazzill made the BIG brads? I do - I had a pack of lightish green that I finally finished maybe last year or so
eyelets - yes, still own but rarely use.
Ribbons - I have 3 or 4 still - I liked ribbons but wasn't talented at using
Paint chips - only once or twice - on painting layouts i think
Paper Piecing - quite a bit back in the day - they were an inexpensive embellishment
Beads - no not really
Buttons - yes but not often and not in a while
Shakers - only for challenges - I'm not good at them
Rub ons - now and then - I still have a few
Torn paper - often then and now
Paperkins - yes - still have a couple and have used recently
Shaped scissors - mine are long gone - I can't cut straight with regular scissors never mind shaped ones
Other trends:
wire - I had and used a couple of pre-made wire embellishments but not home-made
Prima flowers - I coveted them back in the day and have some knock-offs that I still use
Flare -not really - had a couple
Fibres - like ribbon - I had some but wasn't skilled at using - purged them ages back
Wood veneer - no not really
Shaped cardstock/pp - not really because I'm not a 12 x12 scrapper so they didn't really work for me
Foam stamps by MM and messy stamping with acrylic paint - no
Having recently looked at some of MY older layouts...
Deluxe Cuts colourblocking templates? craft foam shapes (stars? hearts, fish?...) corner triangles (matted and decorated triangles for the corners of the layout) serendipity squares?

Jolee’s: yes.
Hinges/hidden journaling/photos: yes. I still sometimes do hidden journaling, but mostly in a pocket behind the page, with a pull up tab.
Paper piecing: yes.
Shakers: yes, but more on cards than layouts. (Too bulky for most of my layouts.)
Ribbon: yes.
Rub ons: only once, in a mini album. I hated rub ons.
Paint chips: no.
Torn paper: yes.
Beads: yes.
Buttons: yes.
Paperkins/paper dolls: yes.
Decorated Scissors: yes.
Wire: once.
Calendar pages: yes.
Stamping: yes.
Kaleidoscopes: yes.
Dry embossing: yes.
Heat embossing: yes.
Paint: no.
Triangle corners: yes.
Fibers: maybe once or twice.
Wood: no.
Eyelets: yes.
Brads: yes.
Metal embellishments: yes.
Staples: no. I absolutely refused to even consider that one.
I started back in 1996. Back when photos were often cut into shapes. And yes, I did that, too.

One old trend I used was mesh. I showed my dad and told him how expensive it was for just a tiny bit. He went into the garage and brought me his roll that was used for dry wall. I was so excited. 😁

Fun thread!
Hinges - yes I used them.
Ribbon - yes I used it, and I still do. Most digital kits have ribbon in them.
Rub-ons - yes I used them, mainly alpha rub-ons.
Paint chips from the home improvement store - I collected a lot of them, but can't remember actually using any.
Torn paper with inked edges for distressed look - yes I did this. If you've ever watched Shimelle's videos you will know that she inks almost everything.
Beads - yes, and still do occasionally.
Buttons - yes and still do.
Paperkins - I think I used them on a couple of my daughters early pages. I dislike them immensely now.
Shaped scissors - yes I had several pairs
Wire - I spent a fortune on coloured wire and shapers
Prima flowers - Loved them then, love them now
Brads - I used them all the time, especially with Prima flowers.
Eyelets - I had them in every colour and shape imaginable.
Fibres - yes I used to use them, mainly on tags
Wood veneer - I think I must have stopped paper scrapping when wood veneer came out, because I can't remember using it. I do use it now, however, and I have Photoshop styles and actions to make my own wood veneer elements.
Foam stamps - I had SO MANY foam stamps! And paints in every colour.

And not only the kits but I bought the punches with the people and parts - hairstyles etc. still have them but don’t use - maybe I should for kicks. Foam stamps: bought and still have. I no longer have Wood veneer: this trend wasn’t happening when I used to scrap Metal embellishments: yes. So so much. Loved it. Had alphas and charms etc - still have them - maybe I should use lol

and let reach all the way back to the late 90s....anyone remember the CADD page toppers? I had SO many of them - and I used them, almost all of the ones I had are on pages. I still have one or two I think.
And I'm not sure if they were also CADD or MME or something else but they were bigger rectangles with a title and an embellishment border to cut in half for the top and bottom of a layout...same time frame though I think - late 90s/early 2000s - they were EK Success Overalls

anyone remember the CADD page toppers I loved them, and when they turned into an MLM scrapbooking company I jumped on board for a year... I still have lots of doo-dads from their lines. CADD introduced me to copic/alcohol markers! They had a page of faces you could colour to suit yourself (skin tones, hair tones) and add to bodies that were pre-coloured. The markers were Prisma alcohol markers. I LOVED how they coloured and researched from there.

when they turned into an MLM scrapbooking company I didn't realise that they did that - their stuff was so fun, I really liked it. That's awesome you were involved with them and wow - you must have been on the forefront of using alcohol markers for scrapping

I have done flip ups on photo with an adhesive strip on a 4x6 protector. I don't really decorate the hinged bit or anything but I do like it to get more photos on the layout, it's something different. I have never really thought of this as a trend. I have used a lot of ribbon, definitely done some rub ons, torn edges, brads, buttons, paper piecing, and baker's twine.

We have a second hand craft store in town and they have tubs and tubs of all of these things! I go down memory lane whenever I visit. The last time there was a lot of new (old) stuff from the 90's added to mix.

Ah yes, I forgot about the MM foam letter stamps. I had 3 sets. Gosh they were a pain to use.
And floss.
I still use bakers twine. I like to make banners with it. Or use it on tags.
Metal phrases and words. Used those.
I also remember the fun shaped brads - Christmas trees, Mackey head, football, heart, bunny. My lss would sell little packs of them.

Fun question pantsonfire! Jolee's - not many, I think a few of the baby theme ones Shaker boxes - not yet! Hinges - not the metal ones, but some of the realistic sticker ones from (I think) Sticker Studio Ribbon - a little on pages, but more to decorate homemade chipboard albums and on the handles of those little tin lunchboxes that were popular some years ago. Rub-ons - yes, some were way better than others. I have quite a few of these left but they're probably not good now. Brads, eyelets - I still use brads once in awhile, but hardly ever eyelets anymore. Haven't throw them out yet though! Torn paper, inked edges - still do this Paper dolls - loved the ones from Stamping Station; still have them but don't use them much; too cute to get rid of Flair buttons - never used them and had to throw away the ones I had due to rust Flowers - still use them sometimes Wooden pieces - use them sparingly Foam stamps - still have some of these. And you all are right: how messy these were with the paint (which dried up pretty fast in those cute little bottles.)

I started scrapping in 2000 so I remember almost all of these!
Jolee's - yes - I didn't use them a ton but I did think they were so cute! Hinges - not hinges but I did and do still use flip-flaps on my page where I can add additional photos or journaling brads - yes eyelets - yes, still use every once in awhile especially if adding a tag on a layout Ribbons - Yes - still have a ton but don't use as much now Paint chips - gathered lots of sample but I don't think I ever used them Paper Piecing - not a ton but I think I have one or two layouts where I did paper piercing Beads - Used them on one or two layouts Buttons - yes - still ve quite a few & like to use them Shakers - only for cards - love them Rub ons - now and then - I still have a few Torn paper - yep - still love! Paperkins - yes - only used once or twice but I did like the cute factor back in the day Shaped scissors - not really wire - Yes - I have a few layouts with wire embellishments I made Prima flowers - Maybe because I have a boy, but I never got into using them on layouts. I did use them in several mini books I made! Flare -yes - not a ton but I did use them Fibres - yes - still have some Wood veneer - yes still using Shaped cardstock/pp - I had a couple I used but this wasn't a big trend for me Foam stamps by MM and messy stamping with acrylic paint - I bought the fam stamps and I already had paint. Jolee's - I have used them Hinges - nope brads - I used to use them a lot. I still have a ton but I either forget about them or I'm too lazy. eyelets - I did a looooong time ago. I think I got rid of them. I have no idea where my setter is. Ribbons - Yes, I love them. Paint chips - No. I never felt right taking them. I've seen some really neat stuff done with them, though. Paper Piecing - Very little Beads - I used to have beads with words on them I used for a few layouts. Buttons - I love buttons. I've used a lot. Shakers - Nope. Rub ons - Yes, and I like the effect. The problem is that some of my old ones don't work anymore. Torn paper - Back in the day I used it for everything. Now I forget about it, but I do like how it looks. Paperkins - never Shaped scissors - I used them to make an edge on a tag or border but never on photos, thank goodness.
Other trends:
wire- I had some premade embellishments that used wire. Prima flowers- Yep, used them a lot. I still pull them out sometimes. Flare - loved them but so many got rusty. Fibers - Yes, back in the beginning. Wood veneer - I use it constantly. I have a huge stash. Shaped cardstock/pp - Oh my gosh, I forgot about that. I do have some- time to dig it out. Foam stamps by MM and messy stamping with acrylic paint - I did this on a few layouts. I never used the Making Memories paint that dried out. I just used the cheap acrylics bottles you can get for $1-$2.
Magic Mesh - Nope. I thought it was funny that it was just drywall tape. Mulberry Paper - I did use this- I just didn't make tear bears. Acrylic - Yes! I love it. Bakers Twine - I love it. I use it often. Machine stitching on layouts - I would if I had a machine. I lent mine to my sister and never got it back. I do plan on buying one. Hand stitching - I did this a lot. I love the way it looks. Canvas and Burlap - I used a ton of it and still do. I love texture on pages. Serendipity Squares - Yes! I forgot about those. I do like the way they look.
This is fun. Anyone remember other trends we can add?
