I have been catching up with this thread each time I dropped into 2Peas. I was still mulling over what to contribute at that point. But this morning, I had a LOT of catching up to do. And I really don’t want to be a part of this.

It’s reminiscent of DarkAngel for those who remember her. It’s not a fair fight when someone has one hand tied behind their back.

The OP isn’t the only one being rude and harshly judging here.

When I signed off yesterday this thread was holding at, maybe, 3 pages then I open it this morning and BOOM it's up to 7. I knew someone posted a rebuttal. I'm all caught up now.

I don't care if you 'tell it like it is' or not, you don't have to call someone poor EVEN IF THEY ASK. Have some damn compassion, kindness, etc. I don't care if it's situational or a choice or because you think Trump is the second coming of Christ. FFS! And I, personally, think the whole 'tell it like it is' is because people want to be mean. Don't. Just don't. What do you get from telling it like it is? You get to feel superior, you get to 'show' that you're better than them, belittle them? Kindness costs you nothing. Your behavior is disgusting and you're coming off as the 'poor' one in this situation, poor character.

I have a son with autism and you can be damn sure he was taught to be kind, he would never call out someone for being poor. If he did I'd be over apologizing for it (not doubling down calling the mother poor EVEN if she asked) and he and I would be having a very long discussion about it.

What I'm also having a tough time with is the attitude that you can't be bothered to call CPS when you know there's a possibly dangerous waste water issue. What happens if they all get sick? You'd better believe if I had a well and was even remotely close to someone who wasn't handling waste water properly, I'd be having discussions with the proper authorities. These are kids, they can't advocate for themselves, that's why they need adults to STEP UP and do it for them. And by not bothering to do so, showing your poor character, again.

And your 'kin' that posted....COME ON. Nothing that was said makes you come out of this ANY better. NOTHING.

Put down the shovel and walk away. I've seen some shit on 2Peas and here and I'll tell you, this is right up there.

And this needs to be a 'gate' thread as mentioned: Poorkin-Gate, AssKin-Gate, etc. This train wreck definitely deserves the 'gate' designation. Should we start guessing how many pages this thread will go before OP and her "kin" give up?

I came back to this thread and read this and thought WTH? This was crazy, but we've seen a whole heck of a lot of crazy over the years. So I went back a page. I read elaine's thought and thought "exactly." She has nailed it. But still? Then I read samhain34. What on earth? I think we've all seen our share of deluded over the past 5 years, but they hit it out of the ballpark and in Victorian English to boot! Good day to you, Sir!

All @littleblueberry had to do was apologize for being out of line (someone suggested a lovely apology) and it would have been over. We all make mistakes. But anyone who thinks it's okay for their teens to be rude to neighbors and then for themselves to double down and be even ruder is never going to understand. If this weren't a long-standing pea, I'd think the whole thing was made up. 

And like AussieMeg, I'm having a difficult day/week/month/year and the absolute balls of this family has also improved my mood. 

Finally, for what it's worth, I have to correct samhain34's math: $23/hr x 2080 hrs annually (if he gets to work that) is $47,840 annually or $3,987 monthly. For a family of at least 4, it would be surprising if their tax rate hit 23% (and samhain34's explanation of taxes is one to be reread by all!). Even if it did (and it won't), he'd bring home close to $3K month. And no utility bills!

I had this surreal feeling while reading that the passages were written in another language and run through a Google translator program that converts text into “pretentious English” dialect. It is the most bizarre writing style I have read in a long time. If the author was in my college classes, my red pen would be all over the place and major revisions would be requested. 

I do appreciate the attempts to teach us things: for example, how the “Original Poster” is also the “starter of the thread.”  

The missing punctuation makes reading it challenging. In the first post, the different font size and justification points to information that was typed and/or produced elsewhere and then pasted into the post. It is too bad, in that case, that a grammar and spelling checker wasn’t used - we don’t have one here, but since this was originally typed elsewhere, one could easily have been used. 

I do love that we are back to being “schooled” that the people are supposedly truly poor in terms of income. So, blueberry’s new insistence that it wasn’t their income but was due to Trump isn’t the issue.

I also question the new explanation of what happened with the fireworks and the teen. The story is now being told differently, yet again, and as if the author was truly there. I cannot imagine that a college-student was hanging with children, so I am going to guess that either that story is one more fictional reenactment supposed to convince us that blueberry’s child behaved appropriately and doesn’t need to apologize (fail), or that the author isn’t an older college-aged sibling, but either the 12 or 15 year old (more likely, IMO). 

Finally, it is too bad that mom didn’t share that we at the pod love this stuff. As in, this thread will go on for more pages now with the additional fodder. We haven’t had a thread this good in years. It would have died pages ago of blueberry (and now her child) stopped posting or just said “thanks for the input- you have given me food for thought.” It would have taken 1-2 days, but it would have dropped off the front page with no more input.

This thread would also have gone VASTLY differently if, instead of a WITA thread, she started a PVM thread asking for support in dealing with the squalor she is living next to because they chose to live on Kentucky land in an area without utilities in place. People would have given her support, ALONG WITH INSISTING THAT CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES BE CALLED. There are also several phone numbers found on the internet to report waste management issues in Kentucky - the state would come out and inspect. 

I cannot imagine living next to such squalor, if the accounts are true. And I am very concerned for the children. I can feel for @littleblueberry , while at the same time thinking that she and her son acted rudely (were the assholes) and should apologize for their own behavior. One doesn’t cancel out the other. It is the weird insistence on her part, and that of her kin, that somehow continuing to describe how the other family lives (and how much money they make, etc.) will make us excuse their behavior that keeps this thread going. 

No description of the other family and their circumstances will change my thoughts about whether mom and teenage son acted rudely.

I grew up in Kentucky. I remember how poor uneducated people referred to family members as "kin," although I never heard anyone referring to their mother as kin.

Literally had to come out of 2peas retirement for this one.
