Yes to the tablecloth, yes to the rug, yes to the lazy susan (most of the time). Centerpieces are sometimes. Usually it's just an ivy in a pretty pot, or a vase of flowers. Our dining area is in an open area near the kitchen, not in a separate room. There is no table in the open kitchen.

We use a tablecloth all the time. I have a collection of vintage clothes from the 50's and 60's that I use mostly. I have a few other solid ones and one I made. Dh doesn't like placemats and would inevitably put his glass directly on the table so cloths worked best. I do have a rug underneath. The cloths do not always match the rug. Last week I had a blue and white cloth on there with red check napkins for the 4th of July which did not match my rug. If company is coming, I put on a cloth that coordinates. Love this.

We usually eat at the kitchen island with placemats, but when we do eat in the dining room we always have a table cloth. All my table cloths are plain white cotton, or linen. I love the more traditional look. I also have a plain beige mat under the table but I am seriously thinking of getting rid of it as we tend to trip on its edges. I send all my clothes out for ironing so that isn't a problem for me. Another thing, I love cloth napkins and only use paper ones for convenience if we are having a party.

We have a breakfast table off the kitchen that seats six. My husband, son, and I eat there when it’s just us. Usually with placemats. Mostly with cloth napkins.
The dining room table seats ten at full length, but can be adjusted with the leaves to smaller seatings. I have any number of tablecloths, runners & placemats, and other accoutrements for that table.
I am a tablescape junkie. I have multiple sets of dishes, glassware, flatware, etc to set my tables with. So I also have lots of linens, napkin rings, chargers, centerpiece items, and so forth. It’s kinda my jam.

Yes to the table cloth. It is under a heave plastic cover that wipes up easily. I change the table cloth with the seasons. No real centre piece except at Christmas. I have a glass mat in the middle of the table to hold salt, pepper, napkins, and other items. It keeps the table cloth pretty much nailed down so it doesn't move.
Oh, and no rug under the table. It is not only kids that spill stuff...

I absolutely can’t eat if I see the person tasting and putting the spoon back in or licking fingers between each serving. 🤮 If I wanted to swap spit with them, I’d give them a big old open mouth kiss. 😜

I love the idea of glass cut to fit the tabletop! I'd have to get one in pieces, though, since we often add/subtract extension leaves.
For everyday, I keep an ugly, flannel-backed vinyl cover on it. I use it as an auxiliary craft space, and DS puts computers, books, etc. on it during the day. The vinyl cloth protects the wood and is easy to wipe down before dinner.
We do have a rug, unfortunately. I hate it, but DH and DS both use the room for instrument practice, and it's just too loud in there without a rug.

Breakfast table is glass top with rattan rim around the glass. It is disconcerting with no table covering. I have 2 everyday cloths that I use and atop the table cloth I have placemats. The 2 tablecloths I use (not at the same time) do not need ironing--ever!

I normally don't. I only use it during the holidays when we have the family over. Otherwise, I don't like the look of tablecloths.
We used to have an area rug under the table. It was beautiful but I haven't had one since we moved to this house. I like the chairs to glide smoothly over the hardwood floors. Rugs kind of make that hard.

No to tablecloths, but I do have a runner on the table most of the time. We use woven jute round placemats.
We do have a rug and the runners don't match the rug, but they coordinate.
Centerpiece - I usually have cut flowers, but not always.

I usually have a table runner and some tablescape like candles and fresh flowers. Maybe some little tchotchke for a holiday but it’s pretty minimal. Then use placemats for eating. I like the look of a rug under the table and I’m past the stage of having kids who spill so it’s not a huge chore keeping it clean. As for matching, it has never occurred to me to match placemats, napkins, tablecloth to the rug, but then again I tend to buy all the same general colors since that’s what I like so they naturally coordinate.

I have both a tablecloth and rug, but my dining room has a "theme". Well, the whole house kind of does. In designing our villa, I always knew that I wanted a marriage between the modern and "beldi", which is the artisan work you see in Morocco.
So for the dining room, I have this black and white hand-woven Moroccan rug from the Atlas. I originally wanted an old Moroccan door with a glass top but I ended up having our carpenter make this beautiful long, dark Mission style table. I have two dark side-boards, one of which is this old Moroccan spice cabinet. The table cloth is a light creme color as is the table runners on the sideboards. I had a clear plastic cover cut to fit the table as I don't want to damage the table or the cloth. DS eats like an animal! We actually use this room quite a bit.

I have a few. Mostly I use them for holidays and when I want to make dinner a special occasion. Mostly I use placemats. I do have a lazy Susan that has a galvanized tray on it that holds the napkin holder and trivets. Some of my holiday/seasonal table decor is floral arrangements in a vase or other container, when I use those, they also go in the tray. I've also removed the lazy Susan for bigger holiday table arrangements. So what's on the table changes a lot.
No rug under the table although I have occasionally thought about it to keep the table from moving around. LOL.

I am not a fan of paper napkins at all and use fabric all the time. I often get comments on how lovely my tables are but most say it is too much bother for them. To me it is worth the time and effort.

I had some tablecloths for our previous table, one that my grandparents bought new in 1950. I got some from their linen closet. The table really needs to be refinished (again, grandpa did once before) and it doesn't work for us anymore. It's in the basement for a future project and hopefully pass on to one of the kids.
Current table does not have any cloths. I'll use runners though. No rug. We can't agree on one. No centerpiece or lazy Susan. I have a couple of seasonal stuff I might put on it though.

We have a gorgeous wood table I inherited. When we were selling our house, our realtor asked if I would leave the tablecloth on it for pictures and an open house because it was perfect. It had small patterns sunflowers and matched the table setting that was on it. She said just that room would sell the house. I obliged.

Yes to a rug. Yes to a tablecloth when we are eating a formal, sit-down dinner, but not any other times. Yes it coordinates, because I tend to buy mostly neutral things that go together.
Yes to a centerpiece that sits on the table when we aren’t using it. I have a couple of layered runners (a striped one with a macrame over it) and the other stuff changes seasonally. During the winter I have an assortment of trees… bottle brush, glass, etc, during the spring/summer a woven tray with a plant on it and some pottery, and during the fall I have an assortment of ceramic pumpkins.

I do have tablecloths and use them, but not everyday. Sometimes, I have a tablecloth on my dining room table, but that is more seasonal, and we rarely eat there. LOL Right now, I just have a colorful placemat in the center with a vase of flowers and a candle. My kitchen table always has a placemat in the middle and a vase of flowers. It's pretty small, so there isn't room for much. I do love table linens, though. I have a lot of different table cloths, placemats, runners, etc. I also have a few vintage table cloths that I love. I tend to be drawn more to things like buffalo/gingham check (and I have them in about every color available, LOL) I also have quite a few holiday ones, but they are mostly plaid or striped. I'm not a huge fan of "motifs" on them if that makes sense. I do have a rug under the kitchen table, but not the dining room table. I want one, but I've been in the process of redoing things for a while, and I can't decide what I want. I"m not getting one now since I will be divorcing and moving. In general though, I love rugs. My floors are dark wood, and I feel like rugs make it cozier I guess.

Thanks again everyone! I'm just so indecisive when it comes to decorating. A lot of what I like does not ago together. I think I will start with a runner. And I really like the idea of a lazy susan too. Undecided on a rug, to get one and if I do what kind and color.

Thanks y'all. Do you have a centerpiece? What kind? Anyone have a lazy susan ? We do have a tablecloth, mainly because the sun comes through the dining room window most if the day and will fade the table- also becuase the finish on the dining room table was not holding up when dh and I were both working from home- particularly where our arms would rest while typing. DS hates the tablecloth lol. In the center of the table we do have a lazy susan which holds the napkin holder and salt and pepper. The lazy susan we have is bigger than we need.

Late to the thread, but our table is bare. I spent a bunch of money on a really nice table and I don't want to hide it under a covering. For our regular every night dinners we use cloth placemats. I have a small "braided rug" table runner. On the table runner is three differing sized glass vases filled with un-shelled nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans, brasil nuts, hazelnuts).
ETA: and no dining room rug.

We don't have a table cloth or rug.
I do try and decorate the table with either flowers or a decorative tray or lantern. It doesn't stay looking nice though with 2 males that don't see the need to have pretty surroundings. They just shove it all to the side.

No table cloth. Yes rug (although I didn’t when my children were young). Table runner with a lovely plant on a small riser in the center right now. I change the centerpiece occasionally; sometimes it is seasonal, sometimes not. My decor is very simple and clean.

Not on my kitchen table. I used extra quartz from our counter to design the table so it doesn’t need protection. I use placemats to protect the dishes but often I don’t use anything. Our dining table is wood so I use a soft vinyl protector under a table cloth when we use it. I don’t use it daily. I have a floral black tablecloth or I have a few white ones. They both compliment my dishes. I don’t think you have to match your linens with the rug or carpet.

I am the third Hilton Township (North Dakota) woman to own my table. Underneath it has a stamp that says “1917,” and my dad refurnished the table for me. Generally, I use placemats to protect it, but tablecloths are used for special occasions or holidays (my mom loved sewing so I have many). Generally, no centerpieces because my mom’s youngest sister hates them and removes them to the floor, lol. No rug underneath.
