This is a 1st world vent. I normally order my coffee from Schuil Coffee. They have a nice variety of flavored coffees which I enjoy. I grind my own beans and use a reusable K-cup in my Keurig. I also order from Bones Coffee on the regular too.
Well, I've been lax to order lately (I did place an order yesterday) so I bought a variety of regular (unflavored) K-cups. (I have no bias against regular coffee and I indulge in the regular decaf on my coffee shop Wednesday's at Biggby with my yarnie friends and Biggby coffee is great). Every single one of the K-cups I picked up is so damn bitter. Yesterday I had some I got at BJ's and I nearly threw up it was so damn bitter. Starbucks coffee is the absolute worst tasting coffee I have ever had. (Note: we just don't have Starbucks around my house. There's one in the hospital but Biggby is our coffee chain where I live so I've never had Starbucks coffee shop coffee, only K-cups). Dunkin Donuts K-cup isn't any better (The nearest Dunkin Donuts is super far away from me too so I've never had their in shop coffee). So basically I'm willing to accept that maybe K-cups differ from in shop coffee at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. The Donut Shop coffees are tolerable and I have no gripe with them.
I have never had a problem with the Folgers coffee my office buys. I have never had a problem with the coffee served at Denny's or our local breakfast place. But the K-cups are just yuck. Maybe it is my palate that is off. Maybe I just wouldn't know good coffee if it smacked me in the face. Haha...but damn I feel like the K-cup coffee is the absolute worst coffee I have ever had.
Do you think it is because so many people load their coffee with cream and sugar that coffees are more bitter because this causes it to lose the coffee taste? If so, it is really doing a disservice to us who like to drink it black. I don't drink cappucinos or lattes or iced coffees or anything like that. Just normal, black coffee.
Anyway, I'm sitting here this morning and my ship notice came out for my coffee order (yay!) but will take two days to get here so I'm "enjoying" this horrible K-cup coffee again this morning and apparently I felt bitchy. LOL!
If you want to suggest a different kind of K-cup, I'm all ears. Otherwise, if I run into this issue again, I think I'll go pick up some good coffee (and they do have good coffee) at my farmer's market to tide me over. I definitely think I won't make the mistake of buying K-cups again. And let's face it, I know they are recyclable, but I can't get over the amount of trash they make so I do prefer freshly ground coffee in a reusable K-cup.
And if you want to add your first world vent, something not heavy, but annoying and/or funny, I'm all ears.

I have noticed this too. I have a few that I buy regularly that I like--one is Folgers Black Silk cups. I also like one called Spring Blend by I think Starbucks, but it is hard to find. I have been buying from this company, and I really like their coffee cups. angelinos.com/The bad thing is you have to buy 3 boxes, but their prices are cheap, I think. I normally buy the dark and medium roast variety, but I have also bought a box of mixed flavors. I have been trying to make pots of coffee more. I have a machine that does both, but I've gotten lazy because it is too easy to just pop in a pod. LOL

Starbucks is bitter as hell both instore and k-cup.
What roast do you like? I can probably make a few suggestions.

I have yet to find a K-cup that makes (IMO) a decent cup of coffee. Our answer was to switch to a Nespresso machine. Much better coffee options. Now I'll take my coffee opinion and go hide in the corner because nearly everyone I know has them and thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread!

DH likes Newman's Own, and I find it undrinkable. He does like creamer in his. He says it's not great without it, but is perfect with it. My overall go-to KCup is McDonalds. It doesn't taste bitter to me. Lavazza is excellent too. I switch back and forth between them. But Starbucks and Dunkin both are on the NO list for me, in KCups. I really would like a Nespresso machine. But I would still keep my Keurig. I brew a lot of pitchers during harvest and planting season. My grain truck is the mobile coffee shop out in the field. LOL I brew into an insulated heated pitcher using 2 or 3 Kcups.

Dd and I are decaf due to our medical conditions. We really love Don Francisco Columbia Medium Roast.
Dd is very anti bitter when it comes to her Autism and food sensory needs. She despises Star Bucks coffee.
But she really enjoys this one. As do my parents. And they drink it black.
Dd and I add a little frothed Lactaid milk.

Oh and I ditched my horrible Keurig and got a Cuisinart Premium Single Serve Coffee Maker for Mother's Day.
Soooooooo happy with my choice. It actually brews hot AND you can choose super hot. I also get a full 8oz. It doesn't take time to warm up or make that horrible noise.

I just didn't place my regular order and then I was like, it's no biggie, I'll just pick up some K-cups. I might pick some up from Angelinos just to have on hand for a lazy day.

Ok. I’ll say it. IMHO - Starbucks Coffee is vile. Running away and hiding now. I do like Keurig. I prefer medium roast. I drink one cup of coffee in the morning every day. I have kcups on hand and was given a bunch of different ones. If you go to the Keurig website, they have a lot of different coffee pods and lots of reviews. They sell variety packs, too. Personally, after drinking McDonald’s regular coffee K cups for quite a while I switched. I bought one small box of Tim Horton’s coffee and found the perfect coffee for *me*. I have to watch my caffeine consumption, so I switched to decaf but found it almost too mild. Now I buy a bag of regular ground TH and a bag of decaf TH. I mix the two together to make half-caff. I use the mix to fill my own reusable k-cups. DH only drinks Caffeine free, and he likes the Kirkland dark roast from Costco, also using a reusable coffee pod. Recently, I’ve been wanting more than one cup of coffee in the morning. So I gifted myself a 5 cup coffee maker I bought on Amazon prime day. I’m still able to use my TH decaf mix, makes the perfect amount of coffee and tastes good.

What roast do you like? I can probably make a few suggestions. I generally like a medium roast. And like I said, I enjoy flavored coffees as well. So when I order from Schuil or Bones that's usually what I get. I like a rich coffee, just not bitter.

I would get a mocha frap or holiday frame here and there. Once I decided to try just an iced coffee, no simple syrup. Oh my gawd I thought I was going to die. It was so very bitter and tasted burnt. Like they burned the beans then made the coffee. My stomach hurt so bad after only a few sips. Even taking it home and adding lactaid milk and a little sugar didn't help. 🤢🤮

Now I'll take my coffee opinion and go hide in the corner because nearly everyone I know has them and thinks they are the greatest thing since sliced bread! Honestly, I like to hear your reviews. I'm sure anything can be turned into a controversy. And really I am good with there's something for everyone school of thought. I just don't usually buy K-cups, so I bought like 4 different kinds and only one box (The Donut Shop one) was decent. Not great, but tolerable. My overall go-to KCup is McDonalds. It doesn't taste bitter to me. Lavazza is excellent too. I switch back and forth between them. But Starbucks and Dunkin both are on the NO list for me, in KCups. I'll have to give it a try when I'm in a pinch again. I think too, Jeremy bought me the Archer Farm one from Target and I liked that too. I'm not not a regular Target shopper. (I know, I probably need my girl card taken away for not being a fan of Target, but oh well, I'm full of controversy today...hahaha) Oh and I ditched my horrible Keurig and got a Cuisinart Premium Single Serve Coffee Maker for Mother's Day. Can you make 12 oz at a time in it? Recently, I’ve been wanting more than one cup of coffee in the morning. So I gifted myself a 5 cup coffee maker I bought on Amazon prime day. I’m still able to use my TH decaf mix, makes the perfect amount of coffee and tastes good. I've been considering going back to a regular, ole coffeepot for quite a while now. First, I drink enough to have a whole pot of coffee to myself in the morning. Where it gets dicey is that usually I have a cup or two around 4 pm each day.

I purchased a new Keurig Supreme this summer. It has 3 heat settings, and 3 strength settings. That really makes a difference. Quieter and it pokes multiple holes in the top of the Kcup and brews differently than the older models.

You guys do know that you can use your own coffee in the Keurig, right? I drink Mayorga but I buy the whole bean and then use the Kcup that you fill yourself. Kcups are incredibly wasteful and horrible for the environment.
Starbucks is vile coffee, regardless of where you get it. Dunkin is meh. There are so many really good coffee brands and they are usually found in small businesses. The bigger name brands are usually crap.

But I was in a pinch without coffee and I picked some up at the store to use. My coffee order will be coming on Saturday. But until then or if I'm ever in a pinch again, it would be good to know what I could use from the grocery store to satisfy my need for coffee in the meantime.

Agree with all the peas above about most K-cups and all Starbucks being bitter. IMHO, some of it has to do with the roast - dark roast is more acidic/bitter than medium, but it's also often a bolder flavor. For me personally, I prefer a medium roast, but I brew it strong. I have a dual coffeemaker that can brew a single cup (using either K-cups or regular ground coffee with a filter) or a whole carafe up to 10 cups. The bold option is what I do nearly every weekday; I brew a carafe once in a while and on weekends. I rarely ever use the K-cup option - mostly for convenience/guests, or if I'm in an extreme hurry. I grind my own beans.
I have found great medium roast coffee at both Trader Joe's and World Market.

When I gave up creamer and sugar in my coffee, I gave up my Keurig. I absolutely agree that most tolerate crappy coffee as they're loading in up with sweeteners and flavored creamers. I had some terrific coffee in Europe and was drinking it black and realized, if the coffee is good, you really don't need all that crap. I have a coffee maker that grinds fresh in the morning and brews 2 cups - it's been fabulous.

Last week I made an impulse purchase due to elaine's recommendation. I bought an IP Pod. I love it and it brews both K-cups and Nespresso. I love this thing and coffee tastes good. I think that coffee is more bitter, because so many of us turn it into candy coffee w/sweetner and creamers.

I've become a coffee snob. I love my Tim Hortons, and order my K cups from Sam's by the 100 pack (online). I fell behind on ordering and picked up the donut blend from them in store it's not bad, but it's not my Timmies.
We have a chain in town called Dutch Bros coffee, and they've totally lured me away from Starbucks cold drinks. The closest one is a 20 minute drive, so I don't get to go often especially with gas at 4 a gallon here. I can't stand Starbucks hot drinks anymore, my parents always said their coffee tasted burnt, and now it does to me too.

Capresso: www.amazon.com/Capresso-464-05-CoffeeTeam-Digital-Coffeemaker/dp/B002EVOVPI?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1It goes down to 2 small cups, but I usually actually make 4 and it makes 2 generous cups (not giant, but the more typical oversized cups that are standard now instead of the small cups with saucers). I've had it for a couple years now with no issues.

I know he would totally be like you're a crazy lady wanting a $200 coffee pot. Haha...but he doesn't drink coffee so he simply doesn't understand my needs.
