I understand the value of renewable energy and electric powered cars. That doesn't mean that we should mine lithium regardless of the cost to the local environment. Easy for you to say, go ahead and mine there. You don't live there and won't have to deal with the potential water contamination, production of toxic waste, habitat destruction etc. And who are we to say the Native Americans don't have a legitimate claim that the land is sacred? Also, just because Nevada is a desert, that's not a justification for potentially harming the ecosystem there. Deserts are important, too. There are valid environmental concerns regarding the mines that shouldn't just be dismissed. Maybe some of them can be mitigated, but we shouldn't just dismiss or disregard the concerns because it's a desert or because it's Nevada. I agree with you on most political issues, but not this one. Regrettably, this thread has changed and there is very little participation or discussion left. It's mostly you posting tweets, complaining that voters are stupid, your agenda of what Democrats should prioritize and who we should vote for, climate change is terrible, especially how climate change affects California. Yes, most of us know climate change is an imminent threat and don't need to be lectured. Whenever anyone else posts something, it mostly gets lost in your tweets. Elaine had a really valid point about your political posts yesterday on the bullying thread. I understand this is your thread and I can choose to not participate. I just wish there was more discussion and more points of view. Sounds like a case of NIMBY to me.

I don't live in Nevada or California, I don't have any skin in the game regarding lithium mines. Just trying to point out that the Native Americans, environmentalists and conservationists might have valid concerns.

I don't live in Nevada or California, I don't have any skin in the game regarding lithium mines. Just trying to point out that the Native Americans, environmentalists and conservationists might have valid concerns. So it’s one vicious circle. Environmentalists and conservationists want to fight climate change with green energy but are also fighting the means necessary to get there. We can’t rely on other countries to supply us with the resources we need. Mining in those countries is just a harmful to the environment. So it’s move to EVs and green energy as long as it’s NIMBY meaning the US. Not to say their concerns aren’t valid but you can’t have it both ways.

I can't think of anything about Gaetz that isn't repugnant. Yet, somehow, he always seems very self-satisfied. I wonder where he learned that?

Talk hypocrites... Although I'm glad he supports his son and son-in-law!! GOP lawmaker attended gay son's wedding 3 days after voting against same-sex marriage The gay son of Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., got married on Friday. A few days earlier, his father voted against the Respect for Marriage Act.The gay son of Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., confirmed to NBC News on Monday that he “married the love of [his] life” on Friday and that his “father was there.” NBC News is not publishing the names of the grooms, neither of whom is a public figure. Thompson’s press secretary, Maddison Stone, also confirmed the congressman was in attendance. “Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life,” Stone said in an email, adding that the Thompsons are “very happy” to welcome their new son-in-law “into their family.” www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-news/gop-lawmaker-attended-gay-sons-wedding-3-days-voting-sex-marriage-rcna39863

Here is the speech Rep Thompson gave at his son's same sex wedding. There is an audio attached. "We really appreciate you all being here, and being a part of that. You know, as a parent — parents have hopes and dreams, right, with their kids, from the time that they’re born and they’re creeping and crawling and walking and falling over and walking again, and all the things that they learn right through their teens and into becoming adults. We have hopes and dreams. First of all, obviously, we hope right from the beginning, it’s all about having a healthy child. But it’s about being healthy. It’s about them being healthy. We hope for safety. We’re hoping that they find their way, find opportunity, they find inspiration. And as they grow and as they get a little older, we also hope and pray they’re going to find that one true love so that they have the opportunity to experience that: Someone to grow old with. So we’re just really thankful that you’re here. It actually goes beyond that, as parents. We love it when they find their one true love, especially when they become a part of our families then. That’s what we’re rooting for. We’ve been fortunate with three sons, and [REDACTED]’s done a great job of adding to the family. Every kid showed up through cesarean section so it wasn’t all pleasant, right! So this has been a really good experience, especially for Penny, to have a new son enter the family! So we’re just blessed, and we just want to say thank you to everyone here as part of the celebration." www.buzzfeednews.com/article/davidmack/glenn-thompson-gay-son-wedding-speech

7-24-2022 What is interesting is more Democrats are popping up on Fox News to talk about the issues. And in the process pushing back on the Fox narrative. But no Republicans are popping up on MSNBC that I know of. Wonder why. Fox News wants people to hear opposing viewpoints. MSNBC doesn't.

MSNBC and CNN do have interviews with conservatives and even conservative commentators. On CNN - Chris Wallace, Jason Miller, Corey Lewandowski, Rick Perry (until he made a dismissive comment about Native Americans), Jonah Goldberg, Kristen Solstice Anderson MSNBC interviews - I think they had almost everyone who wrote a book about Trump including Chris Christie MSNBC and CNN are not the left wing equivalent of Fox. They just aren't. MSNBC and CNN still follow journalistic standards. Fox has completely abandoned them. Instead of airing the first Jan 6 committee hearing, they aired an hour of Hannity's spin without commercials (because they didn't want viewers to change the channel and see the actual hearings). Fox aired Tucker's "alternative facts" on the Jan 6 insurrection. Can you imagine if MSNBC or CNN refused to air Clinton's impeachment trial? Not the same thing, but the closest analogy I can find. Fox instead of conceding or acknowledging some of the facts covered by the commission just doubled down www.nytimes.com/2022/07/24/business/media/trump-conservative-media.htmlapnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-joe-biden-health-media-donald-trump-2e2ffb58d03f72f4e390668cd97b8805Conservative networks minimize insurrection on anniversary www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/04/04/unique-damaging-role-fox-news-plays-american-media/www.poynter.org/newsletters/2021/no-fox-news-and-msnbc-are-not-the-same-thing/Opinion | No, Fox News and MSNBC are not the same thing MSNBC is not simply the left-wing version of right-wing Fox News. It's true that both have strong viewpoints, but the latter spins its own reality. “To equate what MSNBC does or some of these other outlets do with what Fox does is nonsensical,” Darcy said. “There are outlets that have opinion hosts, but they’re playing in the real world — in the world of facts and reality. Fox is spinning its own reality. To suggest there’s an equivalence between the two I think is not accurate and something we should really be careful to avoid.”
But much of what we see on Fox News, especially in primetime, is not based in truth. For example, take the lie that the election was rigged and stolen from Donald Trump. Many on Fox News either told that lie, perpetuated that lie, or didn’t shoot it down — as was their journalistic duty.

Tim Ryan is running a good campaign, he has a fundraising advantage and Vance is crazy. However, it is not a slam dunk. Ohio has shifted to the right. Trump won by an 8 point margin in 2016 and again in 2020. A Democrat can't win in Ohio without votes from independents and Republicans. www.axios.com/local/columbus/2022/07/20/tim-ryans-ad-strategy-right-leaning-ohioWhat he's saying: High turnout among Democratic voters is not enough to win a statewide campaign anymore, Niven tells Axios Columbus.
The bottom line: Ryan's gambit to attract culturally conservative voters is viewed as his only chance to maintain his fundraising lead and overcome the odds on election day.
