Otto is a few days from turning 18 months and the kittens are 15 weeks old. They are getting along pretty well The kittens spend a lot of time in my office, often sleeping in inconvenient places This is Sadie. She is doing well now, but nearly died of fading kitten syndrome. A couple weeks after they came home, she stopped growing, was losing weight and was just skin and bones. All the tests were negative - there was no medical explanation. She finally turned and is thriving. Still smaller than Millie but firmly in a healthy weight/size range. This is Millie. She likes to yell at us when she wants pets. And she sleeps in weird spots, like on my purse🤷♀️ But they're usually together. This is Otto & his pal Bruno on a hot day at the dog park. They laid there for quite a while, paws touching, and passing the ball back and forth. It was hysterical. More derpy Otto 😍 Sweet, handsome boy I just can't with Sadie. 🤣

I love them all so much. So much fluff. How do you get any work done? I would be too busy kissing and petting and cuddling and photographing them to do anything productive.

Do you mind sharing with me (via peamail if you feel more comfortable) which local rescue you got your kittens from? I think we need to get a kitten for our Pippin and obviously want to use a rescue or the humane society. I am pretty sure you are a relatively local pea to me. And I forgot to mention how much I love the pic of Otto and his BFF, so cute!!!

Oregon Humane Society is also great - and they have over 30 young kittens available right now.

Otto is one of my favourite Pea pets, he is so gorgeous. I love the photo with his pal Bruno, and how they’re touching each other’s paws.

those squishy kitties are too cute! I had never heard of fading kitten syndrome and had to look it up. Were they bottle babies when you brought them home?

Don’t deny your DH. 🤣🥰 Damn, did he call you? 😂 I thought we should wait as we really want to get back to traveling. Dh retired a year before covid with big plans for travel. We have three cancelled trips that we are looking to get rebooked. Ds graduates from college next year, so perhaps he will be available for cat sitting. In the meantime, I need to keep Dh away from kittens. He tends to like 2 at a time.

I love them in pairs interacting with each other. We leave our crew of 3 for up to 5 days at a time, could probably stretch it to 7. 2-3 litter boxes, multiple bowls of food, multiple water bowls, leave the toilets open too. It's a mess to clean up when we get back because those boxes are FULL. BUT we make it work. I don't know anyone nearby who I trust enough to come to the house.

They weren’t bottle fed and fading kitten syndrome is usually younger kittens. But our vet said that basically when everything else is ruled out, and there’s no identifiable medical explanation for the decline, it’s kind of an umbrella term. We came pretty close to losing her.

Unlike puppies, two is not really more work (*maybe* 1.25x more while two puppies are at least 4x more work than one), and they still will bond closely to people while being great playmates and companions for each other. Of course, everything is twice as expensive but having had three pairs of kittens in my lifetime and 2 singles, the pairs were happier (and more fun for us).

This is starting to sound like you don't have my back on this issue. And you're making me a little weak. Maybe there aren't kittens where I live. Must not check. Must not check. Just keep saying that.
