Most of my stencils are 6x6 or smaller, it just seems to be the standard size for most manufacturers. I lean towards simple repeating patterns, and own several variations of hearts or stars. Along with those, my most used are a 6x6 repeating pattern of little crosses, and a "coffee stain" pattern.

My stencils are mostly 6 x8s as I use them on 12x12 layouts. I seem to be drawn to polka dots, stars, circles, and script most often.

I like a 12x12 stencil because I can put it down once and then I don't have to move it around the page if I want to stencil in more than once spot. That said, my favourite stencil is a 6x6 leopard spot stencil that my LSS made and sold.

I love 12 x 12 also. I watch your videos and you do use them. Love it.

I don't use them a lot on layouts, but when I do I seem to like stars or grunge patterns (ink splats, stains) and use 6x6 size. A little unrelated - but at the SCT Card event we used Taylored Expressions quad layer stencils, which creates 4 different designs at once using layered stencils. We did the hexagons which came out really cool. www.tayloredexpressions.com/shop/stencils/create-in-quads-layering-stencils/

I'm so intrigued by these. I have a couple of them in my cart at TE but haven't been able to stomach the price yet. I'm interested in the mistletoe and maybe the snowflakes or birthday-ish one. I don't often think to use stencils. I follow a cardmaker who does really cool things with them but I'm not sure it's my thing.

I also thought the hexagon design was kinda boring. But it was actually really fun to do! And once I thought about all the uses (esp masculine) for the hexagons, I like how I could combine colors. I made a fathers day, retirement and graduation card with 3 of the bases. I didn't purchase any more...I did look, like you did, and like some of the other designs, but I think I prefer the more non-thematic design. Also I remember there was a little bit of an "off" alignment on the last layer. Many ppl were complaining about it, I just eyeballed it to the right position. So for the price, they should work effortlessly and not have to be fidgeted with. This could've been an issue for the class/course, not sure? It's kind of like the C9 turnabout affect, but easier strategy. Also should add, I've been using the Pinkfresh coordinating products, so stencils, stamp and dies, and they are far superior in quality to any of the others I tried. Also expensive, but versatile. I've been able to make so many quick cards by stamping the design, using the stencil layers to add color, then cut with die and place on card.

I like the 6x6 ones. I usually use the stencils to add a bit of visual texture around my photos. I have a ton of the Echo Park ones.
My favorites: Music Notes Fish Numbers (Tim Holtz) Brick (also Tim Holtz) Stars Leaves Ferns Coffee Rings Spider Webs
I like the all over patterns the most.

And she shows a cool spinning stencil system, a Penguin Palace stencils 360 tool, that I really can’t justify buying but I really like watching her use

I have a coordinating stencil set by Hero Arts with a sunflower design and I do love not having to stress about coloring in my stamping. I believe, but am not certain, that the alignment issue was fixed with the hexagon stencils after the problems with the class ones. Maybe I should look at that one more closely. It does seem very versatile. (BTW I’ve heard they discount them pretty well for Black Friday. Not my favorite time to shop since we travel for Thanksgiving, but I might be tempted to make an exception).

Thanks for your replies. I gravitate toward simple, versatile, & repeating patterns. My current favorite is Simple Stories Diamond Sparkle, & my inventory consists of the standard 6x6 size (non-layering) with a few 12x12 (plus a couple 6x8 on my wish list). Most of my stencils are 6x6 or smaller, it just seems to be the standard size for most manufacturers. ... I've noticed SB.com stencils are 6x8, & all stencils in new Simple Stories releases are now 6x8 (rather than 6x6 as in prior releases). Since it's a copycat industry, perhaps 6x8 will become the new standard stencil size. Thanks for sharing a new 12x12 stencil (& more) source, & best wishes on your endeavor! ...A little unrelated - but at the SCT Card event we used Taylored Expressions quad layer stencils, which creates 4 different designs at once using layered stencils. We did the hexagons which came out really cool. ... I'm always amazed at the creativity/vision of layered stencil designers & the end results!

I wonder if I could do the same sort of thing with watered-down acrylic paint, or watercolors?
