I am sorry. It is so hard to lose a parent. My mom had vascular dementia. It felt like we lost her slowly over the years.

The last time I saw my dad he did sing Nessun Dorma. I played a little bit of Pavarotti singing it on my phone. He said “OK, I’ve got it!” so I turned the phone off and he sang it perfectly. I was trying to get him to sing My Way by singing it myself. He said “That’s nothing like it, shut up!” He was right! My dad had a great voice, unfortunately I got my mum’s tone deaf voice! |

Thank you so much for all your kind words. I’ve read all of them and have got comfort from them. I’m sorry to those who have been through sad times themselves, my thoughts are with you all.
I take comfort in the fact he made it to 87. Many of my friend’s parents didn’t. And, apart from the occasional bit of singing, he wasn’t happy towards the end, he was sad and confused, he would have wanted to go. I’m also pleased that he did remember my sister and me right to the end.

I am so so sorry for your loss. Alzheimer's and dementia are so incredibly horrible. My grandmother passed from Alzheimer's 3 years ago, it was like saying goodbye twice. Sending hugs!

(((((HUGS))))) joelise. I am glad he could sing his favourite songs right to the end. When you hear them in the future, he will be with you. You can be sad and miss him but at the same time be happy that he is no longer sad and confused and that he was ready to go. |
