I have spent the past 6 days sleeping in a twin bed while my bedroom is being worked on. They estimate I can return to my room next Tuesday. The painting and carpeting are finished, but they have had to rebuild my shower. They say the fumes are too strong to sleep in that room. I can’t believe how miserable the twin bed is. Sleeping on my couch was more comfortable than this. I slept on a twin bed right up until I got married so I’m no stranger to the size. Why is it so uncomfortable? I wake up with leg pain and discover I have had one leg hanging down. Or my back is killing me from laying too close to the edge and almost sliding onto the floor. I wish I hadn’t thrown my couch out so soon.
What size bed is the most popular with the peas?

I picked King, but we actually have a California King.
Sorry you can't sleep comfortably. It could be the mattress itself is not right for you. You know, too firm, too soft, etc. Or, you could be use to moving around and your subconscious knows you can't so you are sleeping stiffly. Hope you get a more comfortable sleeping arrangement soon!

I have a queen, but I sleep alone (except for the occasional dog that sneaks into my room at bedtime).
If I shared a bed, it would need to be a king!

I sleep in a Queen ... I'm single and really only use one side of it still (after being married for 24 years) ... I did sleep in dd's twin for a couple of nights recently while new carpet was being put down in my bedroom and it wasn't that bad ... I obviously don't move much

I have a full size but that wasn’t an option in the poll.

King. Me and 3 dogs. I’m lucky if I have 1/3 of the bed to myself. The two beagles love to snuggle up to me when I’m sleeping.

I don't understand that sizing. Here we have a single - self explanatory, one person bed double - two people but the smallest size for two queen - bigger than the double king - the largest size for two people.
So by twin do you mean a single person bed? Then what is the next size up for 2 people?

I have a split California king. It's a brand new Sleep number bed and I just love it. Dh has his side and I have my side and we can adjust our individual firmness as well as the head and foot. Love it.
pjaye, a twin is a single. There is an extra long twin, typically used it dorm rooms. Then we have a double bed, 2 people can fit, but it's a tight fit. Next is a queen, probably same as yours and king is the biggest. We also have California kings that a bit bigger than a regular king. I'm short and dh is sort of tall, but I take up a zip code, cause I sprawl. So, a Ca. king is great.

A sister has a king size bed. After her DH died, she sleeps on one side and then the next week sleeps on the other side and then she changes the linens.

Then there’s Queen, and then King

Queen = larger than the full size or double King = probably the same for you

And then, a California King is not as wide as a King, but it is longer.

Thanks everyone, that's why I was a bit confused, because there's no option for the full/double size, which is what I have. Currently only one cat sleeps with me...but somehow I'm still right on the edge. Then we have a double bed, 2 people can fit, but it's a tight fit. I have a good friend with a double bed - who also sleeps with a husband and 2 Dalmatians and a cat! Although to be fair, sometimes it gets too crowded for the dogs and one of then goes to sleep on the couch.

I have never slept on anything bigger than a full size. Alone or with a spouse. I now sleep alone on the couch. The bedroom is too far from the doors if there is an emergency and I like the back of the couch to lean on. I sleep with my head at one end to start and then if I get up to use the bathroom I switch ends when I come back.

I switch sleeping between my two bedrooms. One has an older, but higher quality, queen size bed. The other bedroom, I just completely redid in the beginning of the pandemic, it has a new full size bed. I like the newer, full size bed. But, the other room, has a smart tv with my directv, etc. Full size bed room has an over the air tv. I like the vibe of that room and usually read before sleeping there.
I feel safer sleeping in my bedrooms. I could be out of my bedroom window in a heart beat. If there was ever a reason for me to escape my house quickly, I’ve always planned to get out one of the windows.

I'm currently on a California King, but I miss my Queen size. DH is so far away. The first time he had a bout of night terrors, he was so far, I couldn't shake him awake fast enough.

I have a day bed, with a twin mattress and a three inch memory foam on top of the mattress. It's very comfortable. I love it.

We have a King, and I love it. We both struggle when we go away somewhere and have to sleep in a Queen. When we were in Vietnam we had a Super King, which I guess is what you call a California King in the US. OMG it was sooooooo gooooood!! I would love to have one at home.
As well as Single, Double, Queen and King, you can also get a King Single here. It's wider than a single but not as wide as a double. I think it's the same length as a Queen though. That's what we bought for DS when he moved from a cot to a bed. It was good because one of us could lie down with him if we needed to settle him. It's also what I sleep in when I stay at my mum's house.
I remember from previous threads, several UK Peas said that they sleep in a double, because the bedrooms in older houses tend to be smaller.

King. We had a full for about the first ten years of marriage, then moved up to a Queen for about fifteen years. We finally got a King about five years ago and it's so nice. We would have gotten one years ago but in our old house, our bedroom was tiny and a King would have just been too much. I am one who likes space, wiggles a lot etc. A King works so much better for us. And now we have two dogs and one has to sleep on our bed (she is quite small at least). Thankfully the other likes her space too and sleeps in a doggy bed.

We have a king. I'm a very restless sleeper and would be smacking into DH all night in something smaller. Even with the king, he sometimes moves into the guest room to escape me and the cat.

I marked twin because we have a split King which is 2 twins put together. I stretch out to Dh's side some but not that much. He keeps his Sleep number twin much softer than mine. I feel like I'm falling in a hole if I roll over there. The biggest issue we have had is this summer when we switched sides. DH had his right shoulder replaced 3 years ago and is having the left done this winter. In the meantime, he can't sleep on his left side and wanted to switch so he could lay on his right side without his Cpap blowing air into my face (all the unromantic problems of getting older ) Anyway, after the switch, his vertigo came back for a few days and lately I've had more TMJ pain but on my left side instead of my right. At least we are getting this adjustment out of the way now. When he has the shoulder replacement, he will have to be on that side to get in and out of bed more easily.

We have a queen. Although we have the space for a king, I told my husband it would be a waste of bed space. I’m going to sleep up against him no matter what size the bed is. Lol.
Our son still at home has a full. Both our guest beds are queens. And I recently added a crib to one guest room since we had the second grandson born last month and a granddaughter due this month!

So by twin do you mean a single person bed? Then what is the next size up for 2 people? I’ll add to what others have explained that I always understood them to be called twins because they are mostly used in pairs. I have no idea if that’s true or my grandmother just made that up and we’ve simply always believed it!
