I'd just leave his name. Your kids will see it and though they are older and can draw their own conclusions about what a douchebag he is, I still wouldn't want to call their dad names that they could see/hear.

After my divorce, I found that seeing my ex’s name pop up when he texted or called brought me a ton of anxiety. I didn’t think that changing to any kind of nickname for him would really change that, but I eventually decided to add his last name to the contact info. Something about doing that added enough distance to make the interaction less stressful somehow. Plus, my kids didn’t accidentally see me label their dad with an unkind name, even though they would have understood. Wishing you a lifetime of peace…

If you don’t want to see his name come up how about just his initials?

Suggested Xh. Why? X puts him at the end of your contacts. h is to make him small.
Thus Xh...

I would just do his first name. I feel like it would create a lot of negative energy to see something like “loser” etc.

HB To your kids it can be "Husband Before" ...doesn't sound like a slur or put down. But you will know it is really "Has Been" *has-been*nounINFORMAL a person or thing considered to be outmoded or no longer of any significance. "a political has-been"

Much as I'd want to put a nasty word in there for him, I'd take busy's advice and leave it be. Maybe take revirdsuba99's advice to stick an X in front of his last name, so it goes to the bottom of the list and you don't see it as often.

How about Hno1. Stands for husband number one. Look to the future! Hopefully there's a great guy out there just waiting to meet a great gal like you!

For anyone I really don't want to see in the general population of my contacts, I put "zzz" in front of their name. Talk about being on the end all, be all list. Lol
I agree with Busy, though. as a child of divorce, there should still be certain level of respect maintained regardless of how much of an ass he was/is. I'm sure the kids would appreciate not seeing a rude nickname for you on his phone.
