cindytred Be sure the information you find online is first of all from a reliable source like the Mayo Clinic or MD Anderson. Second, when was it published? There are almost daily advances in cancer treatments. My DH was diagnosed with metastatic renal (kidney) cancer in April, 2007. He was given a year to live and told 2 years would be a lot. He just passed in February, so he lived nearly 15 years. This was entirely due to new medications and immunotherapy treatments. Please be sure you are being cared for at a major medical center. I know you are in Texas, so if you can get to MD Anderson, I recommend that. My DH's younger brother is being treated there after a misdiagnosis at a small hospital. You are in my prayers, dear Pea friend. This. A major medical center is a must.

cindytred, my prayers are w/you. Please listen to all of the advice not to base your prognosis on Google info. You live right by the place I'd hightail it to, M.D. Anderson, one of the top cancer centers in the world. People can live for a long time w/stage IV cancer. I've known a couple of people who did just that and traveled and had hobbies. Please ask about M.D. Anderson and find out what they're doing for your type of cancer. If there's a clinical trial or new treatment it'll be there. You have lots of peas on your side and you'll have us here w/you as you go through treatment. Thoughts and prayers going out to you.

Oh, Cindy, I positively hate this update for you. We ARE here, you ARE loved, and your sharing is never a burden for us. We want to support you. So much good advice here. I concur.... Dr. Google should have his medical license revoked! Major Cancer Center a must. Hooray that you're feeling healthy... Grateful for the sharing of mikklynn and others - so encouraging! Do you have a lot of local IRL people to lean on? PLEASE let us know how we can best support you. If I lived nearby I'd invite you to dinner, if that would be a good thing. Or to run some errands/ bring food on days you might feel ill due to treatment. (((( hugs )))) Sending lots of love and prayers your way, Liz

I’m so sorry to hear this. I want to add to what others have said about trusting Dr Google. I researched a family member’s cancer and learned that average survival time with his staging was 2 years from diagnosis. He is on year 7 and still has no symptoms. That said, he is living his best life and ensuring that he doesn’t put off what he wants to do. Wishing you strength and calmness as you move forward.

So very sorry to read your updates. A friend has a similar diagnosis and went to a holistic oncologist in Skokie IL. I can find out his name if a Google search doesn’t find it. He was given 8-12 months, stage 4 like you, by the first oncology group he went to. This Dr changed his diet, gave him supplements along with the traditional treatments, and 8 years later he is in remission, still following the diet and taking the supplements. Let me know if you want more info. In the meantime {{HUGS}}

Hi dear Cindy. I am so sorry to read this update but am comforted that you are a believer and are at peace (as much as one can be) with the path you are on. Try not to worry about others at this point. Remember not to sweat the small stuff (belongings, etc) and that it is all small stuff in the end. Focus on yourself and your relationships and your comfort. Continue to talk to God. He is listening and will guide you. Remember that even if it's not okay, it's okay, because of God. You are in His loving care at all times.

So sorry to read your news Cindy. Remember treatments are evolving all the time and statistics are often far out of date. My mother was diagnosed with a very rare small cell cancer of the gall bladder in 2012. The average survival rate was 9 weeks and they only had records of 2 people surviving 18 months and both of those the cancer was found”by mistake” when they were having their gall bladders removed for other reasons.
This was late October and the oncologist told us to consider ourselves lucky if she made it to Christmas and make the most of it because we definitely wouldn’t see Easter. That was 10 years ago and she is still with us.
Keeping everything crossed for you

cindytred , I've been thinking of you. How are you doing, sweet pea? (((( hugs )))) I've been busy lately with CT scans and PET scans and lots of blood tests. They found 4 lesions in my liver which is the colon cancer that has metastisized (sp) to the liver which makes me at stage 4 of colon cancer. Next week I will have to have a needle biopsy to confirm the cancer in the liver, a port put in, and begin chemo on 9/27. The tumor in the colon will be removed when they get the cancer cells swimming through my blood under control. Apparently the cancer in my liver is not curable so I will have to have chemo for that "for the rest of my life". That kinda shocked me as I was picturing me having to have chemo when I'm 80 (I'm 63 right now.) Yesterday I asked the oncologist about how long I might live with this disease and he said he doesn't like to answer that because there is no way of knowing. I came home and started searching more information on the internet and found out that without treatment I have about 8 months. With treatment 14 to 19 months. I don't know when the clock started ticking. It is so weird to be sitting here with a terminal illness when I feel 100% fine and dandy. I am a Christian and believe in heaven. I'm not afraid of dying, but I am worried about being a burden to my friends and family. I look around at the house I just bought in April and I wonder what will happen to all my stuff and how much of a pain it will be for my kids to get rid of it all. But it is my happy place and I want to be here as long as I can and enjoy it. Thank you for asking about me. I'm sorry for the TMI and being a downer. I would appreciate all prayers and good thoughts. I know the Peas are very powerful. Cindy Cindy - I had colon cancer about 5 years ago and joined a great support group on Facebook. I have been quite surprised how many people have stage 4 and have lived for years. Don’t let the internet get you down! If you would like to check that group out, it is called Colon Cancer Support Group. stacy

My husband was advised to have his biopsies reviewed by a second team to confirm staging and treatment options. Would your insurance allow a second opinion?Could that be a referral to MD Anderson?
Sending caring thoughts.

Goodness, that all sounds very scary. But I wholeheartedly agree with those who caution against blindly following what google - or even a first opinion - might say. A friend’s husband was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer which we all assumed would be a death sentence. He just passed his one year anniversary since diagnosis and has traveled extensively in the past six months including overseas twice. The doctors are baffled by how well he’s responding to treatments. We are all so grateful for the advances in medicine that have made this possible for him. I wish for similar advances for you
