Fluff: Eating take out from containers

nooo!! especially not Chinese- I need a plate, so I can mix everything together with the rice. Plus, I usually get an extra container of veggies, or something else extra, so I have to have it all together on a plate. My DH gets his Chinese so spicy that sometimes the chili oil will eat right thru the styrofoam container!

(I've even put McDonald's or a Subway sandwich onto a plate before, lol. But then I'm also one of those weirdos who eat pizza with a knife and fork, so...)

I also don't like reheating from styrofoam take-out containers, and most of the time I'll put the leftover food onto a plate or in a microwave-safe container before reheating. My DH uses the styrofoam container, and lots of times the styrofoam starts melting thru before the food is hot.



ETA:  another pet peeve of mine from TV shows is when the person is carrying a styrofoam drink container and it's OBVIOUS that it's empty/ there's no liquid in it.  You can totally tell because the person will hold it differently.  

I use a plate

For me it depends a bit on what I am eating and if I am alone.
Something ‘all in one’ like a Pad Thai, and I am eating alone, I might eat straight from the container. If DH and I are together, then we will be sharing, so on plates. Also on plates if it is is something that I am eating with rice, like a curry or stir fry.

we have never done this.  if we are at home, they will be emptied into bowls or served out of but never eaten directly out of. 

Chinese takeaway here comes in plastic tubs and is rammed in, there’s no room to mix anything or add the rice. So we always use dishes.

Eating off styrofoam gives me the shivers, but I'd eat out of containers made from cardboard or plastic.

Most of the time, I transfer the food to a plate but I'll eat something like fries or pasta from the container.

I transfer to a plate and use a real fork/knife. I transfer my leftovers to a storage container and when I eat those the next day, transfer them to a plate.

Dh will eat from the container and store his leftovers in the same container for lunch the next day.

I guess it depends on a combination of a few things--will there be leftovers, do I need a knife, the type of container, if I'm eating at the table or in front of the TV. If I would answer yes for most of the questions then I use a plate.

However, my most frequently eaten takeout meal is sushi and I eat out that out of the container because it's a nice plastic container.

Our local places don't really put things other than rice in the boxes anymore. They come in plastic containers. We tend to plate our items.

But I swear things like lo mein taste better out of the box.

I have always wanted to just once eat Chinese food right from the takeout box like they do on TV and in the movies.

However, our Chinese food has only ever come in the white Styrofoam boxes and there just isn't anything cool about that.

Always use a plate unless I am finishing out a little bit that is left in the container.

I have never heard of that before, or seen it done. It wouldn’t work too well with dishes that have sauce/liquid in them. I can see how someone thought of that after the fact, but I don’t think that was the intent when the boxes were originally invented.

We use plates unless the take-out item comes in some sort of single serve plastic/cardboard bowl. For instance, a salad, or a single serving of soup.
